This one is probably my electronic AOTY tbh. I do agree somewhat it could run together in the back-middle of the album, but damn if the whole thing just bangs and is saturated with highlight after highlight. Incredible sound design and constantly exhilarating. Happy to hear your thoughts of it and your explanations, and to even hear you liked it, but you are right that it definitely clicked with me way more.
Huh, I kinda figured that this is probably not gonna be a favorite of yours, but man, I gotta throw out there how much I love this record. I have already replayed this thing more times than anything that came out this year, and I just can’t get enough. It’s so much colder, more manic and visceral than his previous work, very much futuristic but also dystopian and unnerving. I’m a sucker for this kind of dark, mysterious vibes + music beating me into submission with insane sound design, so this album definitely scratched that itch. Also, this thing is so unbelievably catchy (not just cuz of the vocals, but they are also a really nice touch imo), I have no problem recalling the sound of every track here. I kinda get your point that it „runs together” but I see it more as a consistency in the vibe of the project and I never felt like I’m hearing the same thing over and over nor am I losing interest while listening - I’m hooked and dancing my ass off from start to finish, It’s the kind of music that I feel possessed by. Furthermore, the more aggressive nature of the project makes all the warmer and gentle moments stand out to me so much more, of course this is primarily a collection of bangers but it also has some genuinely beautiful melodic arrangements. On the other hand, the whole conceptual side of this project with exoportal.xyz and all that stuff is really fascinating to me, very interesting world building around a immersive and otherworldly album. Ok, this comment is going on for so long now, but one last thing. I saw him live a week ago, and he played the entire material from this record + a few other tracks, and that experience further solidified this album as something very special to me personally (I was basically losing my shit for the entire show). I don’t do top lists, scores etc. but giving how much I’m invested in this thing compared to anything else from this year I don’t have a problem calling this my AOTY so far. Ok, I’m out, cheers Mr. Angle.
personally im a fan of iglooghosts catchier material, and the aquatic theme + textures on this one gave it a greater feeling of depth so its my favorite to date
I put this album on randomly as background music, not knowing anything about it, not really planning to listen to much of it, and I was really caught off guard by how good it was. The more vocal heavy songs were surprising in a good way! It definitely got harder to pay attention to in the latter half though which is too bad, because it's so good otherwise! I like the ocean creature and bug theming also but that's just a random personal preference 𓆤
Hey listening to the Nia Archives album that came out this year, Silence is Loud, and got some buzz, I think you'd like it, a jungle record with drum and bass influences.
Nice review but I disagree with you on Neo Wax Bloom, I think it has aged wonderfully and is maybe even one of my all-time favorites. Compared to his other records and other similiar artists I find myself always comparing it how they don't hit like Neo did. I wonder what's the thing with that album lol. But I was happy to hear I'm not the only one who's not that keen on Tidal Memory Exo besides Echo Lace.
Honestly, I think Iglooghost has peaked with this album. Sure, it doesn't sound as playful and childlike as his first two albums, but in my opinion that was the main thing holding him back as a producer.
I think it's good, but I'm not sure exactly why it didn't hit as hard as it could've. The only concrete thought I have is that I also thought it felt kinda samey by the end, though I don't remember one half standing out more than the other for me
i wish igloo stuck with the aesthetic and general production direction of their neo wax bloom era. interesting sound design aside, nothing about these subsequent albums have excited me in the slightest.
This shit slaps hard i don't want to hear a single listener saying he's a one trick pony ever again
tbh he kinda was before this. so glad he took a new direction

One last thing I did not mention
THE TEXTURES, MAAAN
One of the most interesting album covers I've seen.

After hearing your critiques, I thought you were gonna give it a 5, but a 7.3 is actually really positive.
Fantano gave it an 8 Wonky gave it a 7 that's not bad but I do have to agree as far as it's sounds on certain tracks you can't really tell them apart

I wasn't really feeling this one myself... I'll probably just stick to Neo Wax Bloom

Do all the things that could go wrong by Johnny Orlando that would be great
A fun listen
Just saw this on spotify :D

I'd say this might be the best since neo imo
