I just recently discovered Monolake. This being his first release as a new fan it is really special to me. I bought the transparent red limited edition double LP. Sounds amazing. He has so much music.. My brain is still processing his whole discography. Your reviews are the best! thanks
I’m a fairly new Monolake fan, but I’ve already come around to loving his unique and immersive techno styles. Interstate, Momentum, and Polygon_Cities in particular are really striking. As for this album, it was really good, even if being one of his lower tier projects. I still felt like it had a lot unique ideas to offer (though it may just be my newer fan bias) and was able to immerse me like his usual offerings. It could be another grower in his catalog.
I also enjoyed this album quite a bit. The consensus here is that it sounds just like another Monolake album and I knida a disagree. This one has a more fun/silly vibe to the project. I mean that in the best way possible.
I became a Monolake fan just a few months ago. At the moment, my favorites are Interstate, Momentum, and Cimemascope. (Honk Kong is also great) I haven't listened to this album yet.
I liked the album a decent amount but by the end I sort of felt like I wanted more out of it. My reaction was basically “Well… that was definitely a Monolake album!”
Datassette is amazing, and the album you mentioned is also one of my favorites. It goes in so many directions, while still maintaining a distinct style. Really competent producer.
Hey , are you going to Air for their North American tour ? I just saw their concert in Vancouver Canada and it was amazing. They finished their encore with Don’t be Light (I hope this isn’t a spoiler lol) but I thought of you when that song came on ! Lol
I will be seeing them on the 8th, yes also having already known they're going to be playing other songs not on Moon Safari, Don't Be Light is pretty much automatically a given lol. what could REALLY make my night is if they decide to acknowledge anything they made after Talkie Walkie, like if they pull out a track from Pocket Symphony or something, tho I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen given they completely avoided any of their later work when I saw them live back in 2017
i was disappointed..huge fan of robert henke and monolake one of the GOATS......but after doing a full listen I even deleted it off my imusic...it wasn't that it was so bad it just was kind of boring compared to previous albums where he seemed to constantly hit higher conceptual levels...maybe ill do a re listen at some point to reflect deeper

!!!! Brilliant revue, again!!!
After hearing a bit, it's a good album and after looking at the store I found out Hong Kong is in stock on vinyl so that's a huge bonus.
Have you reviewed Hiroshi Yoshimura's discography before? He's one of the pioneers of Japanese ambient music

Have you ever listened to something from Datassette? I highly recommend "Void Fill Product", it was my album of the year when it came out.

I'm... not sure tbh. have not been hearing particularly positive buzz on how carefully that one was handled
