One of my favorite games and game OSTs, really happy you reviewed it!
I used to own the plushie of the main character actually, but then I think he escaped lol

The recurring mentions of your annoyance at the tic-tac-toe puzzle was actually hilarious lmao. Glad you enjoyed the soundtrack though, I might check out the game since I've heard a lot of good things about it

I hated that tic tac toe game too LMAO

absolutely fair review - personally I adore the game and soundtrack like a lot but that's because as you can infer, I have personal history with it and it changed my life - I do however see the issues with the game too (the minigame spam), its not my fave part of it either.
As for the OST, I have similar faves and least faves, but I do enjoy every track (besides the defuse bomb theme kinda cause its just another one sped up lol). My least listened to is the mezzanine as well, and I'm pretty sure that's what plays in the first area (and I think the menu?) but I honestly couldn't 100% confirm to you off my head at the moment haha, would need to replay the game. My absolute faves are The Bottom and Mr Handagote and of course the Glasshouse and By The Wall too because of course. And always had a soft spot for Nanorobot Tune.
When the remixes were announced I was floored considering I listened to orbital a ton and considered them my favourite artist as well at that time, so seeing them remix this game was insane and like, catered to me specifically. And I know you haven't listened to the rest of the remixes and you probably won't, but I'd recommend listening to the C418 remix as well as that's my second favourite - admittedly, like the Orbital one this one just feels like it adds a pulse to it, but The Sea sounds really nice as like a chill slow house-y (or techno? I'm not sure) tune.
Jim Guthrie's remix also adds a lot of fluttery IDM-y beatwork to By The Wall. And the DVA remix does the exact opposite of every other remix which is instead of adding beatwork or making a techno remix of the original it adds live instrumentation to the original which is a fun idea, though it isn't a particular personal favourite, just felt like mentioning.

I loved this game as a kid, and recently rediscovered the album and it’s similarities to my IDM tastes, The Sea and Nanorobot tune are amazing imo :)

I feel like I've come across this soundtrack multiple times over the years so since you posted this I decided to give the game and album a go finally. Unfortunately I hated the gameplay. Even when looking at walkthroughs I found myself thinking, "how was I suppose to figure that out??". The art is fantastic though and music worked really well. I do think there's some ambient parts that were in the game missing from the album though. I probably would've liked it much better if I had played it as a kid when I had more patience :V

Much like Minecraft, I've come to know and love Machinarium because of the soundtrack, mostly because I've never actually played the game instead watching gameplays when i was younger, but also the unique aesthetic and design of the game as well, it's just the simple yet striking games of the late 2000s/early 2010s that really stand out to me and the soundtracks really help with that, hope to have more of a gaming benifit in the near future to really get that experience for myself.
My fav songs would be; The Bottom, The Sea, The Prison and By The Wall. Very intriguing and emotional hitters.

You should really check out Botanicula (both the game and the soundtrack) from Amanita. It’s the underrated nature cousin of machinarium, I personally think the soundtrack doesn’t get enough love. It’s both nothing like anything I’ve heard before, pretty much making melodies out of bird noises and such, and the tracks are way more catchy and memorable than the music found on here imo. It’s also made by DVA who contributed on the machinarium remix album

One of my favourite albums of all time. So glad to see someone review it.
Can you recommend some similar albums that are also live instrument heavy? Idk nothing about IDM

Hey, just here to let you know that Hudson Lee has a new album out called Light Dancer, and you seemed to enjoy his previous albums (although Light Dancer is pretty different from a lot of his other stuff, and a lot of it reminds me of Iglooghost quite a bit), so if you want something new, go check it out. :)
(I also saw a preview for Culprate's new EP, Normal, so be on the lookout for that later this October.)

You should listen to the soundtrack Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect. A lot of it isn't electronic but the ones that are are amazing and i would love to hear your thoughts on it.
