Every person is unique and dementia affects people differently - no two people will have symptoms that develop in exactly the same way. The most common signs are memory loss and the loss of practical abilities, which can lead to withdrawal from work or social activities. If you think that these problems are affecting your daily life, or the life of someone you know, you should talk to your doctor, or encourage them to talk to theirs.

I went to visit my dad and he got up at 2am, made himself breakfast and got ready for work. I had to remind him that he's been retired for 20 years and it's 2am. Scary feeling. He knows who everyone is but he's starting to do bizarre things like that.
Please have some patience with him

I saw things like this with my boyfriend's father. He was later found to have Alzhrimer Disease and, sadly, passed away in 2016. I am seeing this again. This time with his mom. She is now in long-term care.
Things have gotten much worse. He's married to a woman my age (he's 83, I'm 42 and his mail order bride from the Philippines is 43). She left to visit her family overseas for 6 weeks and I assumed she hired home health aide to look after him, since he's house bound and can't even get from his bed to the couch unassisted and he cannot drive. He called me and said "Monica I'm so hungry I can't even think straight and I'm dizzy". I said "your wife didn't hire anyone to check on you daily?". He said no. I immediately door dashed him groceries and drove to his home- I live 45 mins away. I stayed with him the whole time and took care of him. He broke down crying and said the bruises he has aren't from falling. They're from her hitting him. He said his wife says "you make me hit you!" I am a counselor and told him that's classic abuse mentality and I am a mandated reporter so I called adult social services. My dad said he cannot tell them she's hitting him or she'll threaten his life, so he recanted his statements and she disconnected his phone. Idk what to do. Social services said there's nothing they can do if he won't tell the truth. I told my dad that I have a spare bedroom and he can live with me but he's afraid of her. I finally told him "my whole life you taught me that your children come before anyone else and you're choosing her over me. You made me look like a liar to social services and now my credibility is shot. You know I can come get you and be there in less than an hour. I do not want you a part of my life unless you're willing to be honest and tell the truth". I've done all that I can do. I told him he needs to grow balls and call the police and I can come get him. Until then, I will not be part of his life. I even offered to go to their house and call the police and stay there until they arrive, to make sure she doesn't harm him. But he's choosing her over doing the right thing and it's all up to him at this point.
I'm 71 yrs old and I'm starting dementia I forget thinks terrible mood swings living in the past. It's scary. I have a person living with me who watches me. I try playing games for memory. Pray for me. Love you all bye !❤❤

My mom is almost 91 yrs old and in the last stages of dementia and life. I remember my first true warning sign with mom was many years ago. My mom always loved playing the game Yahtzee. She played it for years. One day we asked her if she'd like to play. She replied, Yahtzee? What's that? How do you play? Mom has forgotten us all and is pretty much non verbal at this point. She always loved to sing. She had such a beautiful voice. When the talking became less and less mom would just hum and sing. That has now gone away as well. She's been in a memory care facility for a while now. Most of the time we just sit with her. Play music in the background. Hold her hand. Kiss her on the forehead...She was and still is an amazing woman. I will miss her greatly.

I'm at that stage of fits of rage. I even got frustrated at the gas station because the pump didnt work, bystanders tried to help me and they did something I should have known, they pushed the lead grade for me. This has happened a few times. I repeat questions within 10 or 15 minute increments. I've only just turned 41 years old. Even when the house gets messy, the overstimulation triggers my rage.

I watched my father go through this for the last years of his life… My mother is now well along the path of forgetting lots of things… I have several aunts and uncles who have gone this way on both sides of my family.
Now I am terrified that my brother at 64 is starting to show some signs. Now it’s going to come down to my sister and I , now to make some sort of determination and I am terrified for him.
I am younger than my bro and have loved a considerably more healthy lifestyle without the four packs, a day and alcoholism but every time I space out or forget some thing in the normal sense I start to get scared. I hate to think that this is what I’ll be facing in a couple decades, or even sooner.

She doesnt remember what happened yesterday or even early morning time..

My mother is going through this also.
Sounds like things that happened with my grandmother the last couple of years of her life. She would forget things like her being retired, and the fact her husband had been dead for about a decade. She would also get very angry when we tried to explain things to her.

Up your b12 and folic acid and get into a holistic Dr immediately. 35 is young and you need someone who understands micronutrients, toxins , nutrition.

I’m 18. Ever since Covid in late February this year, my memory is getting worse and worse and I’m getting more irritable. I’m getting very concerned now as sometimes I can’t even form a cohesive sentence anymore.
Go to a doctor! It might just be long Covid, which is my problem as well - permanently searching for my keys and glasses! No more sugar, carbs or processed food! You need vitamin B12 and ginseng for your concentration, as well as protein and Omega 3 fatty acids.

I'm 22 and you took the words out of my mouth, at my job in finding it hard to remember things. And I'm struggling to string together a sentence because words just don't come to me anymore. Often simple tasks I try to perform like cooking or shopping I need a list or else I forget a lot of things. If I'm going to he honest, I'm not as sharp as I once was and I know that for sure. I used to be so smart and useful. Now I feel stupid and useless.
I'm 24 and after taking covid vaccine It started. I forget very (forgot the word) things like today i forgot to pick up my grocery after paying, and one day i just started to walk out without my bagpack after class ended. This is really scary

My grand mother called my sister 26 times yesterday asking the same questions each time and today I've been hanging out at my grandma's house all day to see if I spot any signs myself and for who 2 hours she was asking me to help her because she ordered groceries to be delivered from Walmart and they never arrived despite her already paying. She said that my sister had ordered them for her. This didn't strike me as anything unusual because my grandmother is 91 and isn't tech savvy so my sister and I often do things for her that require phone apps she doesn't understand. Anyways I texted my sister and asked her if she could check the status of the door dasher or whatever and see if they even dropped it off or if it got returned or something and she told me she never ordered my grandma groceries and that my grand mother never even asked her to do so today... Let me remind you my grandma was throwing a fit about this for 2 hours and was so sure she was waiting on a delivery that my sister put in. WTF. im so nervous man idk what to do. I've never dealt with something like this before and she's always been so sharp and independent for her age. I can't even imagine her having to go to a nursing home..

Thanks for this video I am gonna try to start writing things down that my grandma is doing that makes me suspect she is getting dementia. I get really upset sometimes cause she keeps changing health insurance and forgetting. She is not convinced she has dementia.
Just lost my Aunt. She had Alzheimer's for years and my cousins took turns taking care of her until they had no choice to put her in an assisted living locked down home for patients with severe symptoms of Alzheimer's... So now we've had my Great GRANDFATHER and now my Mom and 1 Aunt (same side of family) with the disease. They claimed years ago that it skipped a generation which would mean my children and breathe and children would be susceptible to it, I don't think that theory is holding true anymore.
I'm so sorry to hear your story with alzheimers I hope things are better for you and your family these days but please don't ever give up hope I am one ofJehovahs Witnesses and Jehovah has taught me that very soon he will put an end to all sickness and suffering which means if you serve Jehovah whole heatedly you and your family can be saved by Jehovah and enter into the paradise earth where no one shall complain about sickness and suffering
My grandma has it, and my father is showing early signs. I believed in that theory too.

@@astghferseb724 When they no longer recognise friends and family, and become violent from fear, when you have to make sure every door and window is locked so they don't wander off while you go to the bathroom. When they no longer remember how to feed themselves, or become incontinent, and the brain stops sending signals to the rest of the body to breath or for the heart to beat normally... These are SERIOUS side effects... My Great Grandfather had to have the county sheriff called to help look for him roughly 10 x's when he wandered off looking for my Great Grandmother... She died 4 years earlier... It's sad, terrifying and Heartbreaking when you watch a loved one loose all that once made them who they were.

My mom is 78 years old and I'm going threw with this with her right now. I've been her health care provider since I was 18 years old and now I'm 39 years old. I don't have any help from my sister with her and it's all on me. I can't get a break and I'm tired. My sister doesn't want anything to do with our mom. My heart is heavy and I'm being verbally abuse from her. I feel like I should put her in a nursing home because it's to much.
I said I would never place my mom, but it got to the point that we were both dying, me from exhaustion (like you, my siblings wouldn’t help). Alzheimer’s Disease placed my mom ultimately, not me. It has been 13 years now and she’s still physically okay in an ALF. She no longer walk, talk nor remember me. I sit with her anyway and hold her hand while she sleeps 90 percent of the time of my visits. The nurses are wonderful and we are now like a family. I was told by the staff of nurses that I will have to continue to visit for the holidays even after my mom goes home, which only God knows when that day is.
On the other hand, my cousin took care of her father with Alzheimer’s for over 20 years at home and when he did pass away, my cousin was then diagnosed and afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was like you, started in her late teens. Never got the chance to date, get married or have kids of her own. I hope this helps you to make the right decisions for both you and your mom.
