I love the tip about "squaring up" the potato chip columns. Yes, it looked easy to align everything but you're an accomplished sewer and still we get to see that there's no thing as perfection. Aligning the jelly roll on the mat and pinning to the chip column is brilliant. As always, thank you!
It’s a small thing but it makes the big blocks align so nicely
Really great looking quilt with solids, but wonder how this would work with all those leftover prints?
All solids! So beautiful but would love to see one with a mix of prints. . . . Probably with solid sashing. Heart the tutorials, Karen!!
It would be fine with prints. I think some directions prints might not be the best, like stripes
So bright and cheerful. Great pattern, thanks Karen
It is so fun to sew with bright colors!
There's always something new to learn. Thanks for the detail about measuring your blocks and trimming them as necessary. I've been working on your "Chip it Good" quilt and it's shaping up nicely.
Nice…send photos
Love potato chips. I’ve used them from minis to large. Sew fun! Thanks for your wonderful pattern and the tips on squaring up. Brilliant!
This is FABULOUS Karen 🤩🤩 What a wonderful idea 😊 Thank you so much for sharing 👏👏🇬🇧
you are so good at explaining process, and you include the details of needles and thread. so good. so so hood.
Thanks for the kind words. 😊
Oh boy! A new Potato Chip block pattern. Wonderful. I love making Potato Chips blocks. Making Potato Chip blocks is so much fun that it really is hard to stop. There are so many patterns that you can make out of Potato Chips, 2 1/2 inch squares, and jelly roll strips. It's a fun way to use up lots of scraps. Remember, Potatoes Chips can be poverty pieced also. Your quilt is very colorful and beautiful. Someone is going to love that quilt. Thank you for this video and free pattern.
I’m so glad you enjoy the pattern.
So many questions and tips ~ JACKPOT!!!Thank you.❤
I’m so glad that you are advertising the Blueland products! I use a different brand of sustainable solutions, it’s wonderful that we have choice these days!
Thank you for all of the inspiration and encouragement!
It's so good to have choices!
I've just started using Blueland, toilet bowl cleaner, dishwasher tablets, and laundry. I love how clean everything gets.
Love the quilt so colorful. TFS
It really brightens up the room!
Love it, and perfect timing. I have just written up my Past President Challenge to our Guild using the Potato Chip Block! Now they have your two of your Potato Chip tutorials to view. Thank you.
Great timing!
This is great, Karen. I have one more quilt to finish this year. It’s going to the quilter on Monday. Then my plan is to start a big studio clean in January before I start my first quilt. This will be a huge help in my organizing project! And I know I have access to your January organizing videos, too! Thanks so much! 🥰
Wonderful!
Love it. Especially your tips.
Thanks for the great pattern. I cut my left over fabric into 2.5 width pieces. I make juvenile quilts for my guild. This pattern will be perfect for my scraps. ❤
Thanks for another great stash buster. The vertical layout is most pleasing to my eyes. It is great to have options.
I think if I was working with another colour palette it might work better for a horizontal
Thank you! So colorful!
WOW! Just the pattern I need these days. Thanks.
Glad it's helpful!
I love Scrapy.
Thank you I love it. Love the colors.
I really enjoy your tips, tricks, and ideas. So happy I found your channel.
Thank you so much!
What a wonderful pattern to use a solid fabric scraps. Thank you Karen
Love this Karen! I started making chip blocks a while ago. It really does help with scrap management! XO
It does
I love the colours
I love thebright colors!!
It makes me happy too!
OMG! Thank you for another wonderful pattern using 'potato chips'. I'm adding this pattern to my notebook devoted to all the layouts I have found. And as I was watching you do your layout -my brain said, "What if you do a row with an even number of blocks turned vertical, then do one row of single blocks horizontal, repeat...?" Oh the possibilities! Happy Holidays, Karen.
That is such a great idea. I love it
Very fun pattern. Thank you.
Thanks for another scrap buster quilt! I have plenty of scraps!
I love these easy quilt patterns. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
What a lovely idea Karen thank you for sharing this idea with us x
Another great tutorial. Thank you so much! ❤
Just what I've been looking for...and didn't even know it!!! Thank you!
It’s my new favourite
Thanks so much. Several sets of lovely leftovers and this pattern is perfect.
I love that you are able to use your scraps!
Christmas leftovers ❤
Oh this is perfect! I will have a ton of Christmas fabric scraps and can make this ahead of time for next year. Thank you!
WOW!!! Brilliant 👍👍👍
It was a fun one to make!
Thank you! I had an idea for a quilt that just wasn't working so I set it aside. I believe this will be an excellent way to complete my quilt.
Glad I could help!
Thank you for explaining Potato Chips. I like them. Thank you for the pattern. Merry Christmas
Same to you!
Love this. Ty.
LOVE it! Great for Project Linus quilts! So easy to change the size too. ❤
I know, right? They’re perfect for charity quilts!
Once again I love it. I hate left over scraps but this will solve my problem-more Cuddle quilts here I come. For some reason Lime green thread just works so well
It does…and I am partial to that colour too
Wow, who knew you could make such a quick and easy quilt out of scraps in your stash? Thanks, Karen. Looking forward to your declutter challenge again this year.
Glad you liked it! Looking forward to it too.
Love this. I have large group of thatched in strip form. I think this will be perfect using a consistent dark for the border on each stack.
Great! I love it.
I love the vibrant colors
Cute! I love your tip for adding the border to each square. I can use that!
Great idea
I love your stash buster quilts.
☺️
Hello from Saskatchewan 😊. Thank-you for another stash busters pattern. I have already used a couple of your patterns in the past and am looking forward to trying this one. Also thank-you for the tips you have included.
So glad you’re enjoying the stashbusters!
Awesome pattern! Thanks again for the StashBuster series!
Thanks, Karen. You made my day today, after a hard week.
So glad! 🤗
Thank you Karen as usual. Have a very Meery Christmas Karen.
Absolutely beautiful. I now have my declutter challenge project. I have been waiting to see what you did with your solids and you never fail with creativity and beauty. Thanks so much. Happy Holidays.
You are so welcome!
❤ what a great idea thanks
Glad you like it!
I like it!!
So excited! Another stash buster! I live for these videos!!
More to come!
I love the bright colours! I think that I might do this in a mix of solids and prints that I have in my stash. Thank you!
You have a good eye. I’m sure it will be amazing
This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you like it!
Hey, Karen!
Fabulous pattern! The cutting yields are so helpful. I love the flexibility in block sizes and layouts. The possibilities are endless!
Thank you for sharing!
Stay well!
Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
You could also accumulate them over time…and then have a scrappy layout
Great video. Another add to my list. I cut out a whole quilts worth of strips in solids because I read the instructions wrong. It called for 3.5 in wof strips and I cut 2.5 in. Now I have a whole 12 by 12 scrap box full of strips!
So now you have the perfect pattern. You can make them one at a time as you work on other quilts
Really like this and all the color
Those jewel tones 💜
This looks like a lot of fun :) I like all the layouts too.
It was!
Thank you
wonderful quilt. I especially like the rainbow chips so there is a bit of a system in the scrappy quilt.
😎
That’s stunning😍
Beautiful quilt Karen. Desley🇦🇺
Welcome
If you don't have a tutorial for a trio around the world quilt, could we get one? I've seen a few of them but I love the way you teach and all the tips you have!
Thank you!!
Love this idea😊
You are so welcome!
Great use of the stash, and I love the quilt. Thank you for demonstrating how many pieces you can get from different size pieces. You used some new terms and I wanted to know if you have a video that explains all the quilting terms, I would appreciate it.
Yes I do. th-cam.com/video/AFcEbRkl8XQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KmxIXPwTbuhKSFUM
Thank you this is a great quilt. You're tips are great
Glad it was helpful!
This is great. So many possibilities to use up your stash or even some of your yardage if you want. I especially liked your including how much you get from the precuts and how many blocks needed for different size of tops. Those hacks are the best. I have used the tape for so long. Recently bought the magnet to get the quarter but still go back to the tape as it it longer and so easy to follow. I am going to use the tape next top to square up like you did for the block on your mat. I don’t remember seeing it in any of your hacks. Need to go back and refresh so of the hacks. Thanks for taking the time during this busy season to give us a video. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Looking forward to January and your Challenge 2025. Not sure but think this will be number 4. Is that possible?
❤❤Great idea again. Thanks 😊😊
I am so glad you liked it!
Thanks. This is a great pattern. The cuddle size is the perfect size for QFS ❤
Had you guys in mind
@ thanks this means sew much.
Nice!
so cool! ima make this while on vacation in nashville this xmas!
Have fun!
Fun!
This is another video that's a keeper. Maybe more stashbusters will be keepers, too. Can I use clothing for quilting?
Sure can
I definitely don’t have the scraps yet for this. I’m sure I’ll get them eventually 😂😂.
I wonder if this would work in a quilt as you go method, I've been wanting to give it a go
It would work for the strip and flip method
❤
❤❤
Another great stash buster pattern. It turned out beautifully.
What is the pattern of the quilt behind you? I love it!
Kapell Cluster
My edges are always bad. So I cut at 2 3/4 instead of 2 1/2. That way I always have wiggle room. I know it is some waste but my strips are always long enough.
A good solution until you master the skill 👍
Any idea on how you would quilt it? I’m torn on whether straight line quilting would look sharp or if it would just blend in too much
Quilting today…stay tuned for the reveal
Beginner question how do you sharpen your rotary cutter blade please?
I have a rotary blade sharpener. 45 mm Rotary blade sharpener geni.us/bFY2fji (amazon)
I totally agree with you about waste this time of year, but one question. Do you have any suggestions of what to do with the empty spools? Throwing them in trash is not a solution.
Right now I am collecting mine in a drawer and when I have enough I am going to make some kind of sculpture out of them
I have tons of print fabrics... hmmm not too many solids.... I wonder if I could make this work?
just watch out for the directional fabrics like stripes
Random Question: What do you think about using serger thread, for use on domestic machine, for sewing quilts/blocks/binding, etc.?
I saw some new spools at the thrift store for $1.50 each...in all bright colors... I have heard that we should not use serger thread for regular sewing as the thread is thinner and could break easier, thoughts?
How do you sharpen your blades???
I have an idea for scraps: Make reusable gift bags! 'You can quilt them or just do patchwork. Use them instead of gift wrapping paper and tell the recipients to reuse them or to give them back to you so you can reuse them. I don't buy gift wrapping paper, boxes or bags anymore and my friends and family really like the patchwork bags. They are also relatively small projects and perfect for beginners who want to try quilting or patchwork. If you make one bag per month you will have twelve for next Christmas. You can make them flat or even boxed, round or any shape you need.
Does this only work with solids?
Prints will work. Just watch out for directional fabrics like stripes.
Do you have to use solids?
Please, Do you have a tutorial or pattern name for the quilt on the wall behind you.
Coming this summer
