When he points to another thing...wait lemme guess..."that needs to come out"😂 funny af guy I went to his channel and omg its such an early 2000's time capsule...happy 22nd bday bro, even though that was probably 10-13 years ago😂
WOW !!! This video was great ! It was very useful to me when I installed an instrument cluster on my daughters car. If I did not see this video, I would have paid $280 to have the old cluster re-built. Instead I only paid $75 for the part and just over one hour to do the whole job. Bill from the land of HIGH TAXES, NEW JERSEY
Awesome video. I just repaired my cig.lighter / power port which had come loose behind the dash. I can charge my phone again!! Watching your video made it a no-brainer that took me less than an hour. '95 Z24-Cavalier. Thanks.
Thank you Bruce!! I had to replace my daughter's radio and was really struggling to remove the dash. She brought out her laptop and said that she found a video that might help. I followed your step-by-step instructions and they worked perfectly. I did lose one screw when putting everything back together, but no big deal. You sure saved me alot of time and money!!
Yes, I should have removed the air-bag fuse !!! I kept looking at that thing. My son did most of the work, and when I told him to keep his head away from the right side of the dash and away from the air-bag, he told me that they were told at school to remove the air-bag when working close to it. ???
Hi Bruce, Just wanted to thank you. I just finished putting in a stereo system for my son. Back in the early 90's I used to do audio installations, but I am so thankful you took the time to put this video together. Best wishes to you.
Very helpful, my buddy almost broke my whole dash trying to do this until I showed him the video... Still ended up breaking one of the clips in the front but someone else put this dash through the ringer before i got the car, this video was amazing!
Grosse666 You will need a RADIO HARNESS this is what plugs into your existing cords then from there you will need to hook the wires up the the new aftermarket radio you install. You will also need a MOUNTING KIT the one your looking for is for all GM cars and look on the back of the box it will say for "Chevy Cavalier 01-05" or something like that after that, your pretty much good to go...
Bruce, thank you, awesome vid, very informative please tell me how to remove the OTHER piece of dash, the one closest the windshield. I just bought a 2004 and that piece is broken and I want to replace it if I can find that part..
Thank you and it's a lot of work but here is the video to do that, there is also a part 3 to show you what it looks like, hope it helps! How To: Remove FULL dash of a Chevy Cavalier Part 2 (Including famous crack piece and bottom)
Thanks for taking time to make and post this video. I had to remove the dash pad to re-glue the foam piece that comes loose and jams the blend door. Your video was a huge help. Well done...Thanks!!!
THANK YOU!!! With the help of this video and another one to show me how to desolder/resolder and replace a defective stepper motor in my speedometer, my GM instrument cluster is up and running once again! I could not have done it without the knowledge you have shared here - again, MANY THANKS!!!
Oh my god thank you soooo much! This is exactly what I've been looking for for quite some time! Who would've thought it'd be on TH-cam? LoL Thanks a ton man!
Thanks man. Ive been dreading swapping my radio out cuz I know you had to remove the dash. These videos show that its not that bad at all. Cool man and nice videos.
I was also wondering about this. I'm going to try this pretty soon because I need to replace the stepper motors in the instrument cluster. All the tutorials I've read + this video has made it pretty easy, but I'm also a newbie at and don't know which tools I need to remove the torque screws and the bolts in the glove compartment. It'd be really helpful if someone could answer.
Just a recommendation for you if I may. I would consider getting a couple different tools. One of them is called a scew-driver, and the other is nut drivers. Instead of using the torx bits you can use a 7mm socket(typical size on almost all GM vehicles) I use a scew-driver and the 7mm driver in my drill with the clutch adjusted. You can pick that stuff right up at home depot for about $30-40 total..minus the drill. You can make that money back quick doing some other cavilers :-) Great video!
Thanks for the video. Helped me install my daughters new radio. Took me less then 45 minutes to do it the second time because I forgot to plug the mic into the back.
hey question.. totally offsubkect but the cig lighter thing by the steering wheel can you plug in a car charger for cell phone in that one? I have a cavalier and mine either doesn't work for car charger for cell or it is broken.
hey.. when you put your aftermarket stereo.. did you do something with the theftlock.. did you buy something? because when i remove mine.. my car dosent start because the theftlock..
I need to replace the dash cap on a 01 cavalier that the dealership destroyed trying to take out. Any Ideas on how to replace that without pulling the entire dash or windsheild
Christ there's a lot of torque screws. No wonder why I busted my '96 dash all to shit trying to get the radio installed. Thanks a ton for this vid - I'm in the process of doing this right now. Life saver.
I see you have a switch laying there under the radio. I'm assuming that's to power the radio on/off since there's no ACC wire behind the radio. Never see that mentioned anywhere and the switch is the route I took.
works for a 2000 Z24 as well? i need to get the skinny dash peice located closest to the window. its snapped in 2 peices and i want to repair or replace it.
Just to throw it out there for every, Cavs of all years should work for this. Although working on a Canadian car it had 10 mil bolts instead of tourques.
@jxxshadowsxxxx yo if you wanna know how to take off door panels and what not go on my other videos about how to remove child safety windows, it shows how to remove the panels also
just did this today i dont like it i though it may have just been me but i see ur grey paret of radio also and i dont really like that i do now have a aux and subwoffer hook up now but it dont look as nice
excellent video for my 2000 cavalier, but the downfall is, someone has either wrecked it and slammed into the dash, or some moron had taken it out before hand and busted every single dash plastic anchor and cracks all over the dang thing, and for some reason it still had a factory cassette type of radio in it..
works on a 2005 as well. If you have no access to a torque bit, 7mm works as well. kinda ridiculous you have to rip the entire dash out to access the radio. This is at least my 5th time doing this lol....smh
@TheDrmort Thank you haha, and yeah, some people try to charge you so much for such an esay job, its the labor they're getting you for you know. But its a lot easier to do some research yourself to find how to do it, then just spend an hour or two to do it, not to bad haha thank you though
When he points to another thing...wait lemme guess..."that needs to come out"😂 funny af guy

thanks, i have a 05 sunfire...pretty much the same thing i have to remove instrument cluster, very helpful, thanks
The fact you say don't touch the airbag makes me want to touch the airbag when I do this job next week.
great video!! one thing i do if i ever mess with the dash is remove thefuse to the air bag hahaha just for saftey
Thank you Bruce!! I had to replace my daughter's radio and was really struggling to remove the dash. She brought out her laptop and said that she found a video that might help. I just used these 2 video guides to install a new Kenwood. Wow, man, this was PERFECT. I can't thank you enough!

Before starting I'd just unplug the battery. You don't have to worry about shock, or the airbag going off on you.
This HAS to come out.
Very helpful, my buddy almost broke my whole dash trying to do this until I showed him the video... Still ended up breaking one of the clips in the front but someone else put this dash through the ringer before i got the car, this video was amazing!

Just put in a new stereo in a 2002 Cavalier today. It was easy after watching this. Thanks =)

Great video, its nice to finally see someone with the ability to hold a camera steady.
Thanks a lot bud, I'm gonna try to fix my cigarette lighter soon so I can get a GPS to take around.
Thanks man. Your vid helped me out alot
Thank you
hey question.. totally offsubkect but the cig lighter thing by the steering wheel can you plug in a car charger for cell phone in that one? I have a cavalier and mine either doesn't work for car charger for cell or it is broken.
Thanks so much for putting this video up. It was extremely helpful!
hey.. when you put your aftermarket stereo.. did you do something with the theftlock.. did you buy something? because when i remove mine.. my car dosent start because the theftlock..
Do I have to take out the whole dash to replace the ignition switch
No, just then panel around steering wheel
I need to replace the dash cap on a 01 cavalier that the dealership destroyed trying to take out. Any Ideas on how to replace that without pulling the entire dash or windsheild
What tool/size do I need to remove the torque screws? Sorry I'm a noobie at this stuff
Christ there's a lot of torque screws. No wonder why I busted my '96 dash all to shit trying to get the radio installed. Thanks a ton for this vid - I'm in the process of doing this right now. Life saver.
Thanks.
Bruce - thanks a lot for making this video. It really saved me a lot of time and, I am certain, some damage to my vehicle.
Just a quick helpfull reminder to people who plan on doing this, REMOVE the batery cables connected to the battery only for your own safety.
Excellent videos! Perfect for assisting in my 2001 Cavalier radio removal.
Accurate video right down to every screw. I just wish the plastic Chevy used wasn't so damn CHEAP!
i dont know off the top of my head but i could try to find out... and just out of curiosity y do u wanna remove that?
Do you think a 98 Cavalier would be set up similarly?
thank you this video helped out alot
you should link pt 2 as a vid response to this video...
Great vid part 1and two! Easy as pie! Thank You!
I see you have a switch laying there under the radio. I'm assuming that's to power the radio on/off since there's no ACC wire behind the radio. Never see that mentioned anywhere and the switch is the route I took.

Bruce, your spot on it worked to a T for my 02
thank-you ,you have saved me hours of cursing.
The screws are 7mm if you don't have a torx
anyone know if this is the same for 2002
Can someone find the harness and link me to it so I can order it?
Either way, thank you! It helped!
Thank you so much!
how do you remove just the air vent? my driver side air vent wont move left/right.
Did u have a theft system go off when u changed out your radio
Will this work 4 a 97?
You need an interface to install the new head unit right?
Just to throw it out there for every, Cavs of all years should work for this. Although working on a Canadian car it had 10 mil bolts instead of tourques.
Thanks for this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's weird I had a 98 cav n I didn have to take the dash off to install a cd player
It's the same.
Has anyone tried this on a 2003?
@hellobruce13 I dont at the moment...
I think you should have hit the airbag, You know, so we all can see how not to do it lmao
Those are 7mm bolts, not torq.....
They're both.
Like Sean said, there are both T15 torx and 7mm bolts (the 7mm are both located in the glove box).
wow that's pretty cheap of GM, you have to do all of that just to change out your radio? WTF
sewwwwwwwww boring lol besides that thanks and informative..
Can you do mine :)
its pronounced TORX for the love of god
KonE grrr 'll
Very helpful thank you!
