Excellent info! Been laying up carbon fiber for 2 years now and one thing many customers dont realize is the amount of time it takes to sand and polish these parts to a class A finish. Tedious work.

Ones offs in CF is bullshit, it is meant to be vacuum bagged pre preg in a mold in an oven. I know how you feel, there is no money in hand finished carbon- But for personal use you could justify it, I did some rudders for my son's beach cat, they look fantastic.

The reason for imperfection you have shown is the bubbles in the top coat of epoxy resin. When you sand the part before to put the clear you are opening them. And then you have the fish eye after the application of clear and no matter how much layers you will apply. But sanding is the inly way to fix it. Good work!

    Very informative. Thanks.
Quick question. For interior trim parts that I'm laminating with CF and clear epoxy, will Rustoleum or Krylon "Lacquer" be sufficient enough for a top coat providing UV protection?

It would be great if you could explain doing this type of job with a Matte resin finish type carbon fiber. Also how to apply vinyl graphics onto carbon and clear coat.

linear 2pac poly urethane is the best(Norglass), has some uv filters in it, tint it black a bit stops that yellowed look as it gets older. Never leave it in direct sun unless its being used- put a cover over it always.
