Chassis ears would have saved me a lot of $$ vs chasing down other things, some misdiagnosed by mechanic. Chassis ears show same issue on driver side.
Once upon a time you had a teardown and repair video on youtube. Now that you are no longer offering rebuild services, any chance of reposting that?
I hope to replace both axle sides but want to avoid messing with the pinion.
How deep into disassembly if the diff will I need to go in order to remove only the axle bearings and races? Can it be done in a manner that I do not need to worry about setting / resetting preload, backlash, etc which require special tools or skills / experience?

ok mine doesn’t sound like that, thank god! but it sounds like if i had mud tires! and the steering wheel vibrates. do i need shocks and a tire alignment??

Terry, I found your rebuild service on ebay and now found this video you made. I too had my ChassisEars on the front diff. The passenger side (red in your diagram) seems to have a bit of play in the output shaft. So I hooked up the chassisears to the red, pink and green. The green was nice and quiet, and I was expecting to hear a quiet pink (left bearing) as well, but it seemed to be making more noise than the red! My question is, is output shaft play on the passenger side (red) normal? Also took me a while to track this noise down, sounds more like a dust shield rubbing vs a HOWL that a wheel bearing makes correct?

Charleston Car Collection Hi, I will do my best to answer all your questions.
It’s not normal to have play in the out put shaft. Now the differential can make a few different noises when the bearings are bad. When it starts it sounds like a shield rubbing then howls louder till it can be felt rumbling in the car body.
A wheel bearing tends to get louder when turning the wheel while driving.
The sure way to tell if a bearing is failing would be to drain the oil and inspect with a flashlight for metallic.

Is the bearing at the Pink location replaceable without pulling the whole diff? I’ve got a nasty noise that only goes away when you take your foot off the gas. Doesn’t go away during turns like a wheel bearing would

Adam Jeffrey the Differential has to be removed to replace the bearing. Even if you replaced one the other bearings will go bad soon after

@adam how did the sound started. Started it very silent and over time got louder?

Terry, did you diagnose and fix this problem? What was required for repair?

Yes the bearings were bad. Needed a full rebuild. We rebuild the differentials for the Touaregs, Cayenne and Q7. Look us up on Facebook (Differential Rebuilders) from Allegan Michigan 👍

I'm feeling a pulsation between 20-40 mph, mostly occurs during zero acceleration. Does that sound like the front differential?

new account where do you feel the pulsation? Steering wheel, front end or rear of the car?

Hard to say, feels like a bent shaft or oblong tire. in the 20-40 mph speed range I feel the pulse. Not through the steering wheel. There is also a growl that is present. Both occur even while coasting in neutral. Put the truck on jack stands and ran at idle all shafts concentric and no detectable noise. The Left wheel seems to have a rumble when I turn it by hand. Rebalanced the tires, Inspected and lubed the driveshaft carrier bearing, no tears in the rubber. Verified the fluid level in the front Differential.

Similar to the growl in your video but not nearly that loud.
