    Finally!!! I've been getting so many mixed answers and a lot of them have been quite alarming and making me worried that I have some underlying disease. But after watching this I know this is exactly what's causing numbness in the tip of my big toes because I have the pinch callus on the inside of my big toe like you mentioned and that is exactly how I walk. Thank you soooo much!!!!

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +mrtimjitsu So glad we could help. More information can be found here: www.footankle.com/skin-conditions/callus-corns-big-toe/ Use items 1 and 2 under home treatment for about 3 months straight. Nerves take a long time to heal and so if this is the problem you have you want to avoid going barefoot and be using arch support at all times for about 3 months. If you are not better after that then find a podiatrist in your area who is an expert in orthotic therapy. Really do your research on that. Many podiatrists are pretty good with orthotic therapy but you want to find someone who is truly expert at it, and those podiatrists are much less common.

    i thought i had diabetes or something

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      +Travis Price The most common cause of localized numbness just affecting the big toes is simply pressure on the nerves as I describe in the video. Over several months the numbness will usually go away if you follow the instructions in the video. If not, see a podiatrist near you.
      Numbness from diabetes usually presents in what is called a "stocking-glove" pattern. That means it tends to start at the tips of all the toes and then over time move further back on the foot - like pulling on a sock.If you are suspicious at all that you might have diabetes, however, please be sure to see your doctor.

    Omg! I’ve had 2 full hip replacements and 2 dislocations on the same hip from March to May. It’s been hell BUT now during recovery, my big toe has gone completely numb! I’ve been home recovering and am just barefoot all day, everyday and I have a wicked high arch! I should have known better!! I literally just told my husband somethings wrong as I’m freaking out because I’ve been through so much all at once. I have a massive bunion on that same foot and the big toe is really bent in so that the second toe crosses it. I thought it was that!! I know I need to deal with my feet but I’ve had so many things replaced already, knee, shoulders, and now hip, twice. I can’t endure anymore pain right now but I was sooo relieved to see this! I’m going to go use my tool and put my sneakers on right now!!!! Thank you soooo much!!!!

    As others have stated, this video is hugely helpful! This is exactly what I’ve been dealing with for at least a year. Numbness on big toe and callus. Like others, I worried about some underlying condition. It’s so bad now that my sneakers fit too tightly due to the callus on inside of my right big toe. I keep trying to use a pumice stone/sloughing device to get rid of the painful callus but it comes back within less than a week’s time. I stand on my feet to work and I walk often so they take some abuse. Thank you so much for this informative video.

    Thanks so much for the info! This makes perfect sense in my case. I wear heavy work boots with a fairly rigid sole almost all the time since I am currently so often needing them for the projects I am doing. The problem you describe matches quite well what I am seeing (and feeling.) I'v always had a good arch and never had any foot problems in the past (now about age 50.) I will try to find some pads as you describe and try to wear normal shoes when I can.

    wow I didn't know the correction pad for my shoes was that important. My feet roll inward when I walk. My parents had always bought me the correction shoe pad, but it didn't correct my feet. Though I don't know if it didn't get worse because of that. Since I didn't see improvement in correcting my feet I stopped using the shoe pads, and now both of my big toes are numb and have some callus forming... I had thought it was bad blood circulation, so I looked it up. Nothing much to worry now...

    I've gotten those calluses on both big toes constantly since I was a teenager. Whenever I try to run, all of my toes go numb and tingly after just a little while, and it gets progressively more painful the longer I continue. Could this be the reason? I also have fluid retention issues in my ankles and calves, so that could be contributing too... 💁😞

    A month ago the side of my right big toe became numb as I had to tip toe for awhile while painting my bedroom. It has decreased overtime but it’s still present especially now with my current job where I walk a lot and stand for 8 hours. The only health conditions I have is my anxiety disorders which were the cause of pins and needles I’ve had in other toes according to all the tests I’ve had done. Could this be a compressed/pinched nerve on my big toe? I just want some peace of mind

    • @Corleone007
      @Corleone007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it can be reason... you may walk more on toes than on heels like in my case..but if a nerve is compresses too long it may be partaailly damaged irreversibly. Time of compression matters and the level of compression. Slight compressions (slight numbness are more reversible even if lasts for months, but significant loss of function often cut too much oxygen to the all nerve fibres and they die)

    I would not say that I experience numbness, but I do have almost rock-hard calluses on the inside edges of my big toes. They crack over time and cause pretty intense pain. I have recently changed shoes and they have since gotten worse. I had never thought that it could be caused by the way I walk... I am 32yrs old and have dealt with this since childhood without ever even looking into it.

    I've recently experienced toe numbness on the tip of my left foot. Only difference in my life that possibly could be a cause is recently I have been doing night-shifts at night club for 7 hrs and its required to wear shoes, I've always worn boots up to now. Is this a major concern?

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no way to tell if it is something to be concerned about without an examination. The most common cause of localized numbness on the feet, however, is pressure on a nerve that irritates the nerve. That type of injury usually gets better over time if you remove the damaging force.

    • @Footankle
      @Footankle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a number of reasons, but a common one would be pressure on the nerves on the bottom of the toe. Sensation at the tip of the toe comes from two nerves that run on the bottom of the toe. If there is too miuch pressure on those then the tip of the toe can feel numb. There is often too much pressure due to a condition called "hallux limitus" You can read more about that on these pages: www.footankle.com/toe-conditions/big-toe-pain/ and www.footankle.com/skin-conditions/callus-corns-big-toe/

    I have numbness on my big toe but not on the side you showed in the video, its on the other side. I had it for about a week. Upon researching, I found out that there is a name for the nerve on the area where the numbness is. It's called the deep peroneal nerve and it originates from from the common peroneal nerve and after knowing that, I remember that before the numbness started, I've had pain on the area where the common peroneal nerve is, at the back of my knee and when i stretch my legs, it causes pain. I've had it for a few days and after that, I found out that there is numbness on my big toe.
    Is that the cause of it?

      You are not likely to find any arch supports at a pharmacy that will provide much relief. The marketing will say that a support is for a specific problem, but all of the devices at most pharmacies are much too flexible to provide effective support. You are much more likely to find a good arch support at a running shoe store. You will want one that is overall firm with an arch that does not collapse when you apply pressure to it. You can see our list of recommended arch supports here: www.footankle.com/orthotics/off-the-shelf/ and our list of recommended arch supports specifically for big toe numbness here: www.footankle.com/skin-conditions/why-big-toe-numb-callused-one-side/
