    Good job Del, I have also done all of the different types of blue spot brakes with no problems afterwards, what goes together mechanically can be taken apart in reverse and can be checked for any leaks using the master cylinder before you fit them.
    There are slight differences in the front ones, yours had a complete blue spot insert complete with the o-ring section at the back, on others they have a seperate steel disc with the o-ring in it that is seperate to the blue spot star ring, but still seal up the same, in every one I have used the original o-ring were are always perfect and never needed replacing in any of them.

    Another nice tool for the collection! I've made those before using the same principal as bar end weight fittings, splaying out to grip but never thought of the slide hammer, which makes it far easier. I used to just twist them out once they'd gripped. You have generous viewers. As always, thanks for the video and as always I enjoyed it.

    Great vid as ever - love watching these. I recently had new tyres fitted. The person doing the work torqued up the bolts on the rear wheel (GS) but did not torque up the calliper bolts, pinch bolts or axle bolt at the front. He said he did not know what the torque values were. Was he right to not torque them up? I was concerned and found out the torque values and did them once home. Really interested to know what you think…

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well he certainly took the right aproach (other than maybe go find out the torque values, they're all online), but to admit to you and warn you, is right and correct.. if he was an experienced mechanic he would have fitted everything securely and tight enough to be safe... im more interested in what YOU found later, were they loose when you went to torque them up at home...or were they all secure?.. that's the measure of his skill.!

    • @michaelneve3223
      @michaelneve3223 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the quick answer. He did not admit it, I asked him! However, everything was tight and secure when I checked. Main issue was having to buy a T45 and T50 to check everything front and rear! I thought it was a safety issue and these types of bolts had to be torqued up, not as important as I thought then?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@michaelneve3223 Always lots of 'scare' about torque values. They're not just for making sure things are tight enough, often it to make sure you're not doing them up TOO tight, or that there may be a series of fasteners that all need to the the same, as maybe in an engine casing so as not to warp it... once again mate, an experienced machanic with years under his belt will know the right 'feel' of a fastener, not only how tight to fit it so it doesn't fall out.. but how NOT to over tighten it and snap it off...becasue over the years he will have done both.. that's the value of exerience, and the value of a good mechanich you can trust. you don't just pay him for the hours he worked on your bike, you're paying for the years of practice and knowledge he brings to the job he did for you, as proven my the fact that everything was fine when you checked.

    Mate to be fair, every single bike i`ve had i`ve always treated it as a full restoration service, including bearings, oils, brake fluids, calipers pads and disks. I don`t know what works been done to that bike in the past, and by whom, whether they were competent mechanics or weekend warrior spanner monkeys, so for my own safety and piece of mind i rebuild the calipers from scratch with all new seals and i polish the pots where possible but as on my 2002 Triumph America i replaced them with new ones, so i know as long as i have the bike / bikes they are safe, road worthy and trust worthy. Great vid, off to get me one of those caliper removal tools and a blue spot 22mm removal tool. Love to Lady P x

    Usual high quality video Del, as for the "difference of opinion", you have to do what you feel is right, and yes, you were quite right to strip the calipers the way you did. Nothing wrong with being thorough about a job.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Cheers Andy, I get what the advice says in that there's no need to remove them because you can treat them like a solid caliper and blow the pistons out with an airline, but you need a little more when you find yourself having to use an hydraulic press to push the pistons out!... the cost of neglect aye?!

    The rear blue-spot is left-hand thread and screws in from the inside of the caliper, whereas the front ones are right-hand (normal) thread and screw in from the outside? I had to look back at the vid for the rear caliper, thought I was going off my head (well maybe I am but hey-ho). You have no idea how much pain you have saved me with this series of vids - love the steak-bakes at the end too!

    • @Moonfleet41

      Exactly that mate, the back screws on from the inside, and the fronts screw in from the outside...and why i made two, seperate, stand alone videos of the back and front.. that way there should be no confusion over the differances.. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your kind feedback.

    Brill video... shared it already, will be posting it in the yammy 600/900 groups.
    I really like how easy it is to pop the pistons back in these calipers after they are cleaned and have new seals in.
    Old xj900s calipers, youre wailing on them like the old fashioned monkey boy to get the pistons in.
    One major reason Ive upgaded all 3x of my xj900s divis.
    Q. does it matter which way round you pop the spring pad holder thing back in??

      Hi mate.. Thank you for the support in sharing the video.. much appreciated.. I noticed the spring plates are 'sided' in terms of their shape.. but the holes are in the middle and they fit prefectly well either way... have a squint at the schematic in your manual though, that will give you the prefered orientation..!

      @@Moonfleet41 that's the thing... they arnt in the divi 900 manual.
      Blue spots are a seriously amazing upgrade to the xj900s.
      They are the dogs wotsits as far as brakes go lol
      I put them on my 900s back in 2008.
      And never looked back.
      Easy to service...compared to the original calipers.
      Easy to bleed, and you don't have to work out 3 miles before hand when to brake, also, I've not had any brake fade with them.

    Great video guys, I reckon with your lathe skill's Del, you could probably make your own piston puller. On a side note, my wife would absolutely love Penny's nail polish colour...

      Thanks mate, appreciate our faith... I think most parts of the puller are do-able, but the little expanding dies seem to be hardened spring steel, same as in a blind bearing puller... but nowt like a challenge lol

    Phew mate was a bit concerned as you didnt post last thurs and we know what happend last time !!! glad to see you up to your usal high standard s of videos . the many times i say to my customers that the brakes need to be refurb but thye wont as cost etc so i refuse just to put pads in ,

      Thank you mate, thats so kind of you to be concerned.. i did have a few issues, the big event a few years ago left me with ongoing problems that i have to manage now.. life caught up a bit and i needed to take a short break.. but back on deck and still bullet proof aye.. I know what you mean on the pads question.. it's hard to convince someone they need to spend a few quid on some TLC when all they want is the cheapest solution..

    As someone who still says 'Diplo-docus', - AND once mistakenly used far too much denture fixative on his dress-teeth, (it was a posh do, & I was expected to talk to people) I now realise that come bedtime, yon expanding slide-hammer could have saved several broken wooden spatulas, much snorting & grunting by the memsahib & me in great pain, 'all to save face'.
    She called me 'Fulcrum-gob' for a whole week . . . I often wonder where she is these days : )xx

      Well, to pinch big Frank's Cisco song -
      'I left my teeth, . . on Langar's runway,
      spread on the ground, . . they smile at me . . .'
      So now, for ship & gargoyles, I just suck the chocolate off Brazil nuts : )

    Nice one Del 👍
    Nice and informative 👍
    The Blue Spots certainly seem to make brake overhaul much easier than 'normal' calipers 👍
    Hope you and Pen had a nice cream cake after your Steak Bakes 😁👍
    Keep up the brilliant work Del 'n' Pen 👍

      @@paulradcliffe2391 Aha, sounds like you ptobably got a link to the cake... it seems that some bakers have hyjacked the word to apply to a certaint type of chocolate cake.... but in fact the true meaning of the words is "Tiffin" :- a South Asian English word for a type of meal. It refers to a light breakfast or a light tea-time meal at about 3 p.m., consisting of typical tea-time foods. In certain parts of India...

    Wow. What a mess!
    Previous owner is one lucky Bunny that either the wheel didn’t lock up in wet conditions; or that the brakes even worked at all.
    Only an utter idiot wouldn’t take your approach to those brakes.
    Great job.

      Sure thing Nick, both calipers were only pushing with 3 of the pistons, those two i had to press out were just frozen, a sound warning to keep your brakes clean and sludge free over winter aye !
