I know! I'm 152 cm (5 foot-ish) & I'm in the era of 'Middle-Age Spread', but decades ago, I used to be able to "Shop the Kiddies Section" for cheap clothes - and I *So* wish that the Internet & April Yang were around then!
anny791 Not really She changed the style completely but stayed with the theme of the original dress. Now its a style that has a lace-up back So its more open at the back and shoulders and she also made the hem shorter.
I get asked all the time to transform clothes that are TOO SMALL which is why I decided to shop in the little kid's section. I hope some of the tips I shared can help those of you that need to UPSIZE your own clothing. Thanks for watching and commenting
Good job as usual. I like the strap ties that you make a lot, this style looks very good on you. I always (every single time) appreciate your humble critique of your work because you tell the truth from your experience what you could have done differently. This could be so helpful to anyone starting out. Good video as always!
This came out really well and you only used fabric from the original garment. That's a challenge. Usually when I revamp something that is too small, I need to add additional fabric. It's a harder challenge than starting with oversize garments which gives you tons of extra fabric to work with. Well done..
lestrange I notice she always turn the dresses in much more tasteful n fun dresses ...I love all d cute little dresses something I eoukf wears at her she . ..love your work
I often do alterations on woman's wear to fit me, but I never thought of doing alterations on kid's wear. This opened up a new world of possibilities... Love your videos, you are so talented.
I am so glad you are showing how to make something BIGGER, because most women are not as petite as you are and have trouble finding thrifted clothes that are too big for them. Thank you for showing!
Damn! This makes me wish I hadn't donated some of my old dresses!! Lovely as always, April! You inspire me so much I'll be drawing inspiration from several of your videos to make my own wedding dress!!!
@@IoanaPristoleanu I hope to have enough time to actually record it and start uploading videos from the planning process until it's done- if not, I might end up just uploading photos of the process on my Instagram, if you're interested. Tbh, i'm nowhere near as skilled as April but she makes it look possible so I hope it turns out ok.
I love to see how you've grown! I've been suscribed to you since your peplum top tutorial from way back and now you're such a professional, beautiful woman, even more than you were then! I love this video and all your transformations.
This video was super creative! I love it! There aren't enough tutorials to help people upsize clothing, it was very inspirational to watch. Thanks April!
She makes this look so easy!! You should see my sewing project, first one in years and i was super nervous 🙈😄😆😆 oh well - it turned out wearable in the end! 🤷🏼♀️ looking forward to more projects xx
Actually for me, this looks a little complicated XD I got stuck with changing the zipper on a pair of pants. Well they're too thin anyways for the current weather (supposedly mid spring, but more like mid to late fall with no signs of summer). This means I have plenty of time to finish the project ;)
Many of your alterations are looped lace up backs. A great idea for a good fit, plus an attractive style ( lol just now heard u say you’re obsessed with lace up backs 😁 )
Reminds me of a former classmate of mine who used a children's/girls dress as a top. Had she not told me it was really a girls dress I wouldn't have known. I just realized I don't know how I ended finding and following this channel but glad I did.
coolirpa you deserve your views and subscribers as your a good hardworking person. P.S. I saw the Instagram story and saw my/this comment which you liked and commented and came here to see what your wrote. Idk why but YT hasn't been notifying me when someone comments back. It's annoying as the only way I find out is if I check my comment or I find out days later when (and if) YT sends an email.
You did a marvelous job with this! And I can see why - you are so petite and beautiful! Our granddaughter was adopted in China and is also petite - though at 13 she’s tickled pink that she is now taller than me! (I’m short but plus sized 🤦♀️) Loved how you reconstructed this. I started watching your channel because I’m losing weight and need to reconstruct some items and also want to upsize some classic fit and flare patterns from the 1960’s when I was a teen and making all my clothes. And I just have to say thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us!
Omg so you mean i can use my sewing machine to change my favorite dresses that are too small to fit me now??! This is amazing, your sewing/diy skills are soo admirable.
Beautiful work, as always! :) I also shop in the children’s area as sometimes its a better fit. You are so fun to watch, and you’re beautiful!!! Keep up the fantastic work!
Lovely and inspiring! Makes me wish I had more patience 🤣🤣 I sew but these days I stick to household basics like curtains and simple quilts...you know, rectangles.
This is so helpful! I have a dress that doesn’t fit my shoulders anymore, I think I will try to reshape the top half like you did as it turned out great! 👍🏼
Looks cute!! It is mice when you can shop in the lifs section. I do that often too. But when you want to sell your mature clothing in a small size you have a problem. Now that I sew on my youtube channel I get way to many clothes. But how many 40+ women still have size 36?? I cannot get my small clothes sold unless it is in a very young style but I am more of the classy style!
Great video! Although this wouldn't work for someone who's my size lol, I'd love to see you try this for someone who is bigger. My go to is put in a contrasting band down both sides of a dress so it looks like a design feature, but would love to see your take on it. :)
Ripping out all those seams and a zipper sure takes a lot of time and patience. I am impressed with your sewing skills. Did you learn how to sew from your mom?
This is so incredible. You make it all look so effortless!! I’m 6’ tall, and very thin, so the problem I always have with up-cycling clothing is that it’s always too short on me. I would never be able to up-size a kid’s piece of clothing to fit me unless I had at least an extra yard of fabric to use with it lol
Oh thank you! My Grandma made Dresses for my, when i was Young. Now she is dead and i dont know what to do with These! Now i can try to fit me again! Thank you
Yo! you made a too small dress fit you by removing loads of fabric? Boggles the mind. Looks great on you.
It's like magic to watch her go.
I’ve watched the video, and I’m still not sure I understand how she managed it haha!
@anny791 Very true! Adding those curves!
I know! I'm 152 cm (5 foot-ish) & I'm in the era of 'Middle-Age Spread', but decades ago, I used to be able to "Shop the Kiddies Section" for cheap clothes - and I *So* wish that the Internet & April Yang were around then!

Please make a video to transform 2 dresses into a reversible dress. It can be blouse or pants or skirt
Hey love your videos. Can you also show how we can upsize jeans and convert low waise jeans into high waise and vice versa
Oh I love this series of making a piece of cloth bigger or smaller but keeping the main design but just improved.
Good job as usual. I like the strap ties that you make a lot, this style looks very good on you. I always (every single time) appreciate your humble critique of your work because you tell the truth from your experience what you could have done differently. Thank you! I think I'll be using this technique on a ball gown from Marshall's
Will you do pants that are too small next? I'd love to see your take on how to upsize pants.

The idea of upsizing itself rather than down sizing is very new and interesting to me ! ... thank you so much april for sharing this ❤
No problem! Thanks for watching :)

I truly love how you've been branching out lately. Your collabs have been great and this was very informative! Can you do destroyed hem jeans next?
I am so glad you are showing how to make something BIGGER, because most women are not as petite as you are and have trouble finding thrifted clothes that are too big for them. Thank you for showing!
I’ve always had a tremendous respect for anyone who can create clothes but you are in a class of your own. Amazing.
Damn! This makes me wish I hadn't donated some of my old dresses!! Lovely as always, April!

Would you film the process of making your own wedding dress? 😊 I love the idea but I'm not skilled enough to do it!

Wow thats an oldie! Thank you so much for your kind words!
Really great that you listen to viewers' feedback and then try their ideas!
Wow this is truly unbelievable! Using a sewing machine is a skill I wish I had mastered. The possibility are endless.. 😊
So fun & cute!! Would work with a white t-shirt underneath 🙂
Yess! I was thinking the same! Can't to style it like that :D
Would look better over a Korean street fashion styled frilly blouse, looks weird over her bare skin
Hehe awesome 😊😊
You go girl, I love the cross crossed straps. I love how you restyle items and you do it so quickly.
I'm so happy this one was actually quick to do :P

Amazing. The lace up back was a great idea.
Thanks so much Sage! I just love how versatile straps can be with a lace up :D
I can't believe it. This is truly amazing...as an aspiring fashion designer, you are an amazing inspiration.
I love your style, garl! Your outfits are my goals haha
Do you like 50's, 60's... 90's style? I'd like to watch you sewing vintage clothes too.
Have you ever watched Annika Victoria? If you like vintage style clothing and upcycling things like that I would recommend checking out her videos
Check out Angela Clayton!
this is the first time I've seen something like this!! wow it looks so wearable like not obscure high fashion
Wow u still go through all your comments 😄😄

If you sewed a small piece of blue mesh on the straps and over the chest are it would make it so much better! Suits you great 👍
I really love the look of the dress behind you at the beginning, so stylish.
Edit: The transformed dress is also looks great. 👍

Great tip, I've been wanting to sew a dress for years, but have been waiting to get better.
