I sewed a two-piece dress last year from a 1950s pattern and as someone who is about three different sizes (like, 8-10 bust, 10-16 waist, 12-14 hip in Australian sizes) having the garment in two pieces is actually an improvement. I disagree. Formal events should require formal wear. I really dislike that celebs influenced people to stop getting dressed up, ever. For example, weddings are sooooo expensive (for the couple) today, and the guests come wearing cotton/spandex dresses from Forever 21. I also highly doubt Brittany’s dress was sustainable. I’m sure the designers used new denim. They just used different types. Nothing I’m saying should be taken as a criticism of Brittany herself. She is great and has been treated so unfairly! We just have different taste, which is perfectly okay. I also don’t blame her if new denim was used for it since sustainability wasn’t a widely known concept back then. 😊

I'm sooo happy. 😭😭😭 (tears of joy) I love denim, I love 50's dresses and I love/d Brittney's dress. I envy ppl who can make their own clothes and this dress is a perfect example of why. 👍
Your makeup transformations never fail to astonish me. I have no skill with a makeup brush and your conturing is incredible. You don't need to downplay that it's a subtle look - it does so much to transform you! I know you hate sewing advice but this is said with love - the gaping on the bust comes from using the pinafore style with just some small darts for shaping. For a true sweetheart neckline, you really want to use princess seams. They will get you a nice curve that forms around the bustline. Anyway, this was a lot of fun! I'm glad to see the return of the But Make It Vintage challenges! I feel like they're super creative and have fun results.
I feel like you need a tamagotchi themed purse or something to go with this, and like polypocket hair clips. Also omg Frodo in a fedora is the cutest thing!🖤🖤🖤
"move over derrick berry" lmao. you look so much like britney with the makeup, i'm always in awe at your transformation skills. i love the way the dress came out too!
Oh, I so hope you make the dress in the pattern along with the pinafore. The square necklines are always lovely on you. And the button detail is fun as well. Happy sewing Rachel!
Just throwing it out there: if you really want to take eco-friendly fabric re-use to the next level, scraps of natural fabrics can go into your compost pile! I did a denim quilt a couple of years ago and composted all the seams and scraps… very satisfying. ❤️

Wait, that exists?!?! Woah!
As a person who works at a fabric shoppe, they exist!
The Britney makeup is perfect!
We Canadians call this ensemble...
The Canadian Tuxedo. And I'm so proud. Ty for honouring our fashion. Britney and Justin did amazing on it, and so did you!
Is it weird that I learnt that watching Canada's Drag Race?
@@Nikki-tx6kh Nope! I love that show!
This is so fun!!! I love this take on such an iconic lewk ✨✨
HUMBLE REQUEST-- pleaaase “but make it vintage” Shania’s leopard suit… think of the CAPE possibilities!!! Love all that you do, so excited to see more of this series in the future, whatever you do ☺️
After Kim K wore Marilyn's dress, I saw a post that said that Britney was the modern day Marilyn. Then a bit later I started to see denim in your Instagram stories and felt like I was picking up a wavelength and here we are!!
I am always in awe of your make up transformations skills. You really have such a good eye for spotting the subtle things that make someone's face distinct and recognizable.
New horror movie title: The Ironing.
Also: I feel the thrift store price gouging on a deep level.
Rachel's joy at seeing the individual portions done made me so happy.
While I miss whisper-on-the-floor-troll Rachel, I like stands-farther-from-the-camera-and-yells-at-it Rachel just as much :)
Rachel's entire audience: make the pinafore.
Side note. This video is my reward for putting my laundry on the line. Thanks for helping my depresso self.
Right???
this is always my clothes folding jam :)
I got to see The Swan Dress in person many many years ago when Bjork did a show with the LA Philharmonic 😍.
Amazing!!
“I have to pee but overalls mean I have to take this whole thing off....” I feel you sister. #romperproblems 🤣
this is why I don't wear overalls. that and the crotch never just sits right.
Cute! I like the final look.
Re: ironing. A lifesaving tip my good friend (and professional long-arm quilter) shared with me for cheat “ironing” large pieces of fabric: toss the fabric in a warm dryer with a wet hand towel. The steam will take out the wrinkles, and you just gotta pull the fabric out immediately and hang or lay flat of whatever. Its worked for me several times.
I made a quilt out of my old jeans and a bed sheet when I was a teenager, 2006-ish. I loved that quilt, it was like a weighted blanket and it was so comforting without being too hot.
Thanks for the idea!
Putting the JEAN in Britney Jean Spears.
P.S. the sewing song lowkey slaps - Rachel's the best 🥰
On the one hand, I always end up loving all of your creations. On the other, the thought of a long, jean skirt is giving me nightmares of past summers at my old church! lol
I love that Rachel is just giggling to herself throughout the entire assembly of this dress
Every now and then I'll forget how good your makeup skills are and then you make a video like this where you literally turn your face into the person you're portraying and I wish I had your skills damn
Rachel I literally have never been more excited to read a title of yours in my LIIIIFFFEEEEE!!! I am so into these goofy but amazing projects, they inspire me SO! My new aesthetic for making clothes is “is this a funny idea”
I can’t wait to see how this turns out
Rachel: Doesn't everyone have chainmail in their car?
Me: Yes, yes we do 😌😂
I need to acquire chainmail post haste.
Yes, but I try to make sure I take it out and put it away properly after every reenactment weekend.
I know my niece does
I liked the Julien reference when you said, “band name, called it.” We love Jenna and Julen♥️
I used old jeans to reupholster a 70s chair and let me tell you, I can relate on the jeans deconstruction portion of this video.
I haven’t even watched it yet but I’m already eyeing the pile of denim trousers my husband gave me for upcycling a few weeks ago 👀
th-cam.com/video/FQRW0RM4V0k/w-d-xo.html
The skirt and bodice would look even more gorgeous with some embroidery/fabric paint/patches/crystals etc. They have the potential to be the most rebel dress ever! xD
I really like it when you show yourself sewing. I think I just enjoy the process of watching people sew instead of just cutting it out and showing progress
Wow! Right at the point you finished your lips and moved on to highlighting, I SAW BRITNEY. SO cool; you are a Master! Great job on the dress!
No one:
Me clicking on the title: “Butt Naked Vintage let’s goooooo!”
(FYI I think you’ve said in the past this series doesn’t do very well but my first video of yours was Poison Ivy BMV and I freakin’ love this stuff!!!! Keep doin’ whatchya doin’!)
🤣
That dress is cute. Don’t be so hard on yourself, you have talent, and you actually wear what you make. There are a lot of people, who don’t wear what they make. It’s sad, but true 💐
I was just shopping for 1970s vintage jean skirts 😂 I found some with a lace trim on them very cute.
I think I'm one of few people who loves that Brittany jean dress ❤️
I lol'd at the montage in which you sewed the skirt, felt the weight of the skirt, and IMMEDIATELY made straps. just perfection.
You are the very best inspiration my dear. So many sewing and crafting channels are overwhelming with their hyper precision and "math" and Rachel is like "Look! Make adorable things you like and that fit you out of what you have or can repurpose. It's not that hard if you just start! Start with a shape that works, cover it with the thing you want and Boom Bam Baby!" You rock and we need you in this world. Thank you for all you do!
Rachel, you are my hero. All of your content is amazing. Please make videos about whatever you want, and I will watch them a thousand times.
I enjoyed this outfit way more than I thought I would. My 90s baby heart was all for it. I actually think the fact that the top and bottom aren't connected is a blessing in disguise because I think they would be so cool as separate pieces as well. Frodo as Justin Timberlake KILLED ME.
I love looking at Rachel transforming into characters and people with makeup, she always sells the illusion. Plus, from this video, I really feel that her week off doing cosplay stuff did her some good :3 Keep doing what you like Rachel, it's fun to watch you have fun
you did the Britney eyes so perfectly! in the reveal shots the resemblance!!! woah!!
I haven't watched your contents for a long while. I've missed this! You did end up resembling Britney, a vintage Britney indeed! You've done an amazing job. ❤
But Make it Vintage! Yay! Those are always fun. Love the skirt on the dress. And our sweet floor troll is BACK!
Heck yeah, I love how you're bringing back fashion trends one era at a time, Rachel! 😄
I don't sew, I'm not really into fashion, the reason I started watching is my gf watches you but I'm now hooked as you are hilarious and your vids are brilliant! Keep up the great work!
THE LITTLE KICK AT THE END OF THE REVEAL WAS ADORABLE
I will literally watch ANY video you make multiple times… but these “but make it vintage” ones are kind of my fav.
Shhh. I feel bad saying that bc oof… that is just SO MUCH work!
Losing my mind at Frodo as Justin Timberlake 😭 what a handsome little man
Our prom (or maybe it was homecoming…) was themed after this look 🙃😂 “diamonds and denim”. That’s the south for you lol.
I feel like you really got the eyes! There was a moment when you smiled and I was like "OMG that totally looked like Britneys eyes!!" Love any content you make - will watch it all!!
This vintage makeover makes my Millennial heart happy ❤️
I absolutely love this!! It's very interesting, definitely probably to heavy to wear all day. But honestly if you keep the two pieces separated I think the top would be cute to pair with other high waisted skirts.
I totally love how this came out! So cute, now I want one. And can we talk about all those available pockets!?!
I like how her denim overalls had a sweetheart bodice also!
I'm sooo happy. 😭😭😭
(tears of joy) I love denim, I love 50's dresses and I love/d Brittney's dress. I envy ppl who can make their own clothes and this dress is a perfect example of why. 👍
That’s the perfect combination between Britney and Marilyn 💜
"Rouge your demons away" is my new T-shirt slogan. Solid gold!
Lol I misread the title as “Disney” denim dress XD
I thought she was gonna make some 90’s grunge version of one of the Disney Princesses lmao 😂
I need this in my life now
that's such a good future video idea !!!
@@palmtree1958 lol oh I could absolutely see her doing that. Let’s hope she sees this XD
Suggested title "But make it denim"
The Franken-ness of the finished dress is giving me ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ Sally vibes and I love it ❤️
Your makeup transformations never fail to astonish me.
The green dress and vest combo is so cute! It reminds me of anne of green gables, but with dark hair... so like anne and diana together. So cute!
Loved it. The seams as trim was such a good call. Really finished it off. I think the make up looks amazing too.
It’s cool to see another “but make it vintage”. The dress looks cool!
I feel like you need a tamagotchi themed purse or something to go with this, and like polypocket hair clips.
Also omg Frodo in a fedora is the cutest thing!🖤🖤🖤
I actually have a Polly Pocket purse, it looks just like the old compacts
"move over derrick berry" lmao.
you look so much like britney with the makeup, i'm always in awe at your transformation skills. i love the way the dress came out too!
Oh, I so hope you make the dress in the pattern along with the pinafore. The square necklines are always lovely on you. And the button detail is fun as well. Happy sewing Rachel!
I love your "But Make it Vintage" series! I was so happy to see your insta post hinting that was what today's video was going to be.
Just throwing it out there: if you really want to take eco-friendly fabric re-use to the next level, scraps of natural fabrics can go into your compost pile! I did a denim quilt a couple of years ago and composted all the seams and scraps… very satisfying. ❤️
I'm so happy to see another "but make it vintage: they are always so much fun to watch!
