      They sung the same line to her dad, and he didn't make old bones. The Windsor women are just lucky enough to live to a ripe old age. The Queen Mum lived to be 102. So the Brits could be singing those words for a good few years to come. But it's in the genetics

      @@graemedurie9094 We tried being a republic. It lasted 11 years and people realised how tiresome it is. Look at the republics. France with a presidency that gets more and more expensive. America where the presidential jet costs taxpayers enough to run our monarchy for several years each year. Look at the dictatorships of Russia and China. Look at Italy that seems to change government as often as most people change their underwear. Look at some of the so called democratic countries of South America. One of the most awful and corrupt countries in Africa has to call itself a democratic republic. Grubby politicians vying for favour and getting positions to settle political debts. There isn't one politician that I would trust with a bag of stewed badger entrails let alone the presidency of a country. Prime Ministers of all parties value their relationship with the Sovereign. The one person who will never leak what has been said in a meeting. The only person they can talk to who has 70 years experience of government but who is impartial and doesn't want their job.
      I expect you will counter with costs for the taxpayer. It's a very common misconception that the monarchy is a drain on the taxpayer. Actually it's self funded. The government gives The Queen about 20 per cent of the income of the private crown estate and keeps the balance. So the monarchy surrenders about £320 million a year to the government, so the taxpayer. No other head of state is self funded and gives money to the country. There are many experienced politicians who believe that The Queen is the best reason that our country has any influence in the world. She is respected around the world. She has never been laughed at by the General Assembly of the United Nations, or impeached or suspected of being part of an attack on parliament.

    This is almost the same arrangement of the National Anthem as played by all our military bands. It does not give any feeling of pride whenever it is played. Why can't the arrangement that has been sung at the last night of the Proms over many years be adopted as it is a real pleasure to hear the full Royal Albert Hall public enter into the arrangement being proud to be British.

      I cannot agree. This is a very stately version and rightly somber given that it is being sung at the Queen Mother's funeral. It perfectly fits the occasion. The version sung at the wedding of Charles and Diana was more upbeat and celebratory. I personally object to Britten's version and find it typically middle class liberal. The National Anthem should be sung loud and proud. The BBCs use of that dreadful whispering version is, in my opinion disgusting and shows contempt for being British. I accept the second verse is sung loud and proud but I hate the treatment of the first verse which sounds more like a guilty confession rather than an exhortation

    Whilst any version of the British National Anthem is most mighty, the best ever rendition was that sung at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. It has never been surpassed and although the TH-cam clip sound quality it lacking, the original vinyl recording and subsequent CD pressing is superb.

    It's a bugle call named "The Rouse"., which is a shorter bugle call that's used to call soldiers to their duties (instead of "The Reveille"). You hear it in several Commonwealth countries like Australia, Canada and Singapore at first light. Being relatively short, the Rouse is the call also most commonly used in conjunction with the Last Post at remembrance services: in this case, I suppose to end the night vigil of the Queen Mother's funeral service.

    @TheAnglopride Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (current Queen Elizabeth's late mother) was a princess from April 1923 when she married Albert, Duke of York (later George V) until December 1936 when Albert's brother, Edward, abdicated the throne so he could marry Wallis Simpson (American twice-divorcee). From then on she was the Queen Consort.

    @ireneobien1954 no,you are quite wrong. The word princess is here used in the broadest sense and means the ruler. Just as the current Queen is also the most high and most excellent princes-it does not mean she actually is a Princess. Word prince(ss) is used to denote any ruler regardless of his/hers actual title.But this was more common in the past than today.

    I agree William, that "Englanshire" isn't Britain, or even the United Kingdom - but the habit (for want of a better word) of referring to the UK as "England" is something more frequently done by foreigners - ie Americans, and other 'mainland' Europeans.

    We all play a role in this world. Living comfortably is just a perk of being a royalty but i think it just compensates for all they have to put up with, for all the sacrifices that they have to make for the country. True commoners do more laborious jobs but that doesn't mean that the monarchy is not. And from what I've heard the country is actually benefits more from the monarchy than the monarchy benefits from the tax the common people pay.

    This is the best version of Preußenmarsch (Prussian National Anthem) ever written. mind you God save the queen was written in 1761 while Preußenmarsch was written in 1527. for the Kings of Prussia. just listening to a video on here about royal National anthems and God Save the Queen was the last version written in 1761. as already mentioned it was written for Prussia (Germany) in 1527, France 1686, Sweden, Greece, and all the German State Monarchies, which were all written before England stole in in the 1760s

    • @keithbulley2587
      @keithbulley2587 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This anthem has been sung in England since 1744 (not 1761) and there is documentary evidence of words and tune from that date. No other documentary source anywhere in the world predates it.
      The anthem written for Louis XIV of France by Jean-Baptiste Lully in the 1680s, 'Domine salvum fac regem' (which you can hear on TH-cam) bears little relation in terms of lyrics and none whatever in terms of melody to 'God save the Queen' so can be discounted as an earlier source.
      Prussia did not have a king of its own in 1527: it was a dukedom within the kingdom of Poland. It only became a kingdom in its own right in 1701.
      Perhaps you can post a weblink to this 'preussenmarsch' because I cannot find out anything about it. I have never heard it cited as the origin of 'God save the King'.

    I'm not talking about the video service in Westminster Abbey. I'm talking about how the queen and Pope Ratzinger were both in charge of The Mohawk Institute in Canada. The "Vatican" is the place in which Pope Benedict resides....right. So if you and then Pope Ratzinger are in charge of "The Mohawk Institute" are you not working with someone from "Vatican City" ? Do you know anything about this place and what happened there? Why do you people always resort to name calling? Totally uncalled for.
