Super informative vid! However, concerning your referenced presets (WhoIsMatt Luts) for this S-Cinetone profile; after reading the description it states "Works with Standard & LOG Footage." Could you share with me if this is for S-Cinetone as well, because it doesn't mention this profile? Thanks!
@@LennyandSandi Same information I'm looking for. I bought these LUTs and just noticed there is no LUT for filming in S-Cinetone (profile 11). Matt, can you help here? Thank you!
The redirection takes me to a lut package for log formats, pence find one for cinetone, you have that lut available, I am not interested in the slog I use fx3 to document my children and I will use s-cinetone to not colour more in the future
S Cinetone actually doesn’t clip until 109 (it’s in the Sony help guide). Setting your zebras to 100 is just going to waste dynamic range as you can recover your whites in post if you set zebras to 109. Alternatively, you can create a manual knee in the picture profile that brings your white point down to 100. I’m really shocked at the amount of TH-cam teachers who don’t know this. I didn’t find a single person who understood this information that Sony gives us for free. Also, slog3 clips at 94, so setting zebras to 100+ will make you think you are never overexposed.
If you create a manual knee in the picture profile that brings your white point down to 100, should we set the zebras to 100+ in that case?? Thank you so much
Do you know of any way to make the camera monitor show me the image with a white point of 100, while retaining the post superwhites to bring down in post? I keep getting my footage back overexposed by a little bit, compared to how I saw it while shooting.
Helpful tip for exposure: by default “spot metering point” is set to “center”. Changing it to “focus point link” like you showed, meters the exposure of what’s in focus. Perhaps still not entirely accurate, but a lot better than it’s default option “center”.
WOW!! What an awesome video and SO well explained. I ordered the a7Siii and still waiting patiently 6 weeks later (chip shortage) but in the meantime dude you are helping me big-time with your great videos!! Many thanks Matt 🇨🇦
Another more old-school way to set your exposure is to use your camera like a handheld light meter. In your wide shot of people kissing, get two feet away from them, use manual ISO and exposure. Set the correct exposure as they fill the frame. The, when you pull the camera back for the wide shot, their faces will be properly exposed. Maybe the sky. blows out a bit, but it's the faces you want to be properly exposed.
Love your channel Matt, thanks for making the LUTs but your link isn't clear that the LUTS are for S-Cinetone, am I missing something? Don't want to drop money on the wrong LUTS, please advise

Hey Matt, I tried the Preset on my FX3 and it wouldn't load. Also on the PDF you should add, save camera settings preset 1st because the folders path are not on the memory card until you do so.
4:59 vs 5:08 honestly those images look extremely similar, and the major difference I see is slightly different sky saturation, slightly different white balance / warmth in graded image. Nothing is clipped in either image
Matt, some folks have suggested turning down the level in the detail to -7 to essentially remove a lot of the sharpness. Would you agree with that hypothesis? Thank you

Hi Matt, this is Bill Steele with Steele Visual Productions in Phoenix, AZ. Another very easy and fast method for determining dual native ISOs is to take the minimum available ISO in the picture Profile (base native ISO), multiply it x2 and then simply add a zero (0). Hopefully this helps. Thank you for the great tutorials and good information. All the best!
So the dual native ISO for Slog3 is 640 x 2 = 1280 + 0 added = 12.800 ??? Officially A7IV does not have native ISO. But it appears that at ISO 3200 the second step kicks in, and you’ll see less noise…
so are your LUT's works in Normal like easy set AUTO and S-Cine or Slog3? Please give me the sample video with the camera setting and after LUT is applied.
Hi Matt, I'm about to start with vídeo on my a7iii for the first time and your vídeo is very helpful. I found another video showing how to emulate S-cinetone on the a7iii and I will try it, but I have a few questions, if you don't mind... What is the difference between setting the zebras to 100+ or 60%+2 (for skin light tones for instance). Also, any idea why on the a7iii with this PP, the mn ISO is 200?
The only thing I don’t get is why you say to set zebras at 100+. S-Cinetone clips to white at 109. Is it just a little safety bumper or to give a little leeway in post?
Just to be clear, when using a Whoismatt LUTS, you will want to choose “Standard” correct? I recommend S-cinetone with Whoismatt lut 6 standard. Looks fantastic.
I’m confused. Is this only the gamma profile or the colour profile too? And should you mix and patch the colour profile with a different gamma profile or should both be the same?
