the carrera GT has a somewhat similar design and now there's the 918.... out of all brands (globally) porsche makes the most profit per car. so it's not about producing legendary cars like the GT1 anymore, it's about money. modern tech makes the 918 seem soulless compared to a GT1, F1 or CLK GTR. so I rather just have a lightweight car with a big or powerful engine.
@@barryjohnson5288 the 911 gt1 is only a kit car... the chassis is based on the 962 group c car iirc... the front end is there for styling issues. so i supose one could replace the front end and rear end with modern era 911.
NFS Porsche GT1 was the Race spec car....still 1 hell of a game that was..specially the over-steering on the Carrera RS and the 930 Turbos... Miss that game
I am however seeing stats that say that the GT1 turns 3.9 0-62 which translates to roughly 3.7 0-60mph. My CGT turns much closer to a good 3.5 0-60. Yes, the GT1 is a LeMans car but so is it's offspring the CGT.
Funny how the 911s from that era got the GT1 style headlights after it won the Le Mans. And everyone hated it, calling it fried eggs headlights. If Porsche buyers followed racing and knew where the headlights came from or Porsche made more of the street version GT1 supercars so it was more known, the 996 Porsches would be a lot more expensive today. On the other hand, it is a good thing it didn't happen, because it means people like me can buy amazing 911s at half the value.
I wonder if Porsche could ever make another 911 GT1. 911s usually look rather unremarkable compared to other stuff out there, but this one actually looks like the crazy mid engine supercar 911s actually are. I REALLY love its design, and I'm extremely curious to see what a modern rendition could look like; would it look a lot like this?
@@malicalik that's true. There's videos of it getting beat by a Ferrari F50 which is a hypercar of the older generation. I would say it's the clutch though, yeah
@Redstoneprime The Marcos LM600 (its actual name), Lister Storm and Maserati MC12 never were competitors to the Porsche 911 GT1. They were competing in a class below, i. e. FIA/LM GT2 (also called GTS/GT/new GT1), which replaced the original FIA/ACO LMGT1 class in 1999. Especially the first two, which raced against the Porsche 993 GT2 and Chrysler/Dodge Viper GTS-R in the late 90s and early 2000s.
How could you forget the F1 GTR ;). They had one of them when developing the clk-gtr, probably why the Mercedes was so dominant in the FIA GT championship

Yeah, the 911 GT1 doesn't give an F about how it's engine sounds like. Porsche focused on making a winning machine back in its day before the FIA, ever-increasing costs, and Mercedes shot down the first incarnation of GT1.
So nice to see an owner using their car rather than locking it away.
