It's been a while since I've done a review on gear and this one took too long to get done, my apologies to all for that. But here is my review of VKB's Gladiator NXT Evo. Check it out!
can you do a controls video where you discuss how you have your hosas and pedals bound?
Sorry I missed this comment. Yes, I'll go through and configure it once I'm done with the next review of another setup!
I've had mine for over 4 years now. I play SC nearly every night and these joysticks run like the day I got them. Highly recommend.
They really are amazing. And I can't say I'm surprised they're working as well as day 1 for you.
I have Virpil.
I have been curious about VKB's long term durability, since I recommend them to anyone on a budget.
But will not recommend any less than VKB.
Thank you for that info! Not many have talked about this.
@festersmith8352 Glad you enjoyed the video! I'd definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to keep costs lower as well
Do you know which joystick he has on his left hand?also what pedals are those?
@@DamianTazmanian Left hand is the "Gladiator NXT EVO Omni Throttle - Left Hand" ... and the right hand is the "Gladiator NXT EVO ‘Space Combat Edition’ - Right Hand" . Also, both sticks shown here are the Premium versions. Not sure about the pedals, but I'm 90% sure they're made by Virpil.
I've had one for about 2 years now and I love it. Absolutely worth it!
These aren't "budget" sticks but they're the best value for sure. I love my VKBs and I recommend then at every opportunity. Save your Thrustmaster money and buy VKBs the first time.
Absolutely. In my opinion, given the options out there, its definitely more budget friendly than a lot of other options out there.
@@g8trdone I mean define budget. They are budget in terms of big boy stuff, a Ferrari will be budget compared to a pagani
While more expensive than a $50 Logitech extreme 3D pro there’s is no comparison between the two
VKB (or other options for that matter) actually has interchangeable parts and more precision and especially longevity in mind…
That’s a lot of words to say yes they ARE budget if you’re looking for a real setup where a $50 dollar option can’t even dream of working
They’re budget if you’re blocking out the low quality ones that while useable are not recommended.
If you can afford a $100 stick you can afford these not much long after.
@@zachbunch8701 that’s what I’m saying. If you ignore the McDonald’s toys that might work if you have a very low standard and or use it very sparingly a VKB is budget. Especially if you buy once cry once
A free monitor you get off Craigslist might work but it’s not the same as a $200-$300 27” 144+ hz monitor. There’s just no comparison
(Btw this is no hate towards my t16000m boys. You guys real as fuck)
Got my VKB stick and Omni-throttle a month ago. I love them. So smooth. Makes the ThrustMaster HOTAS look stone age.
Lol pretty accurate
I picked up a pair of these as by sheer luck as I found them locally second hand. I'll say this, they are the best joystick/controllers I've used in all my years. Do yourself a favor and pick some up. You'll love them. Thanks for making the video.
You take care of yourself, you value scripture and have good taste in gaming, I hope your channel booms!
I have loved my evo pro setup really couldn't go back to m&k and I learned to use them in a weekend
I really appreciate your comment! The NXT Evo's really are amazing! I'm glad I was given the opportunity to check them out and see what i was missing out on!
I just bought these sticks this past week. I must say they are a big step up from the X52 I had. Programming is insanely easy and intuitive.
Absolutely. The x52's are trash in comparison lol
I've had my VKB setup for a year now and it's the best investment I have done in 30 years siming
Thank you for this review. It's daunting to research so many HOTAS options and pin down the best one in quality and price point. So far you sold me on this one.
Glad you found it helpful! It's definitely an amazing product! And I think anyone would be happy with it for years to come!
@@Hav0k Right after I watched your review I found the competitor. Now I'm torn between the VKB Gladiator NXT Evo and the new WINWING URSA MINOR-Fighter-Joystick. They use the same gimbal, but the URSA MINOR reviewer said that the construction kindof gives way more than the Gladiator and that the buttons are iffy. The URSA MINOR is significantly less and comes already assembled. People seem to be leaning towards the Gladiator still, though, for various reasons. What's your take on the comparison of these two?
@tonygantt4830 so I'm currently in the process of reviewing a pair that WW has sent me. But I'll give you a brief bit of insight.
The designs are the exact same in terms of the internals. However, VKB uses fiberglass reinforced nylon for their internals, but WW uses ABS plastic. This does let them cut costs at the expense of potential durability. (I say potential because unless you have a firm grip like I do, most users will be fine.)
The other important difference is that all of the hats on VKB use 4 way tact switch clusters with oush, which is a very tactile and is extemely crisp and responsive when pressed. The WW on the other hand uses 4 way nav switches with push, which makes the hats feel a little more mushy than I would like. This does not affect the overall performance of the WW stick.
Finally the last thing I'll say is that the dampener on the WW switch if you remove a spring to have your left stick operate like a traditional throttle, IE: your stick doesn't return to center when using the Y or pitch axis, the stick will begin to fall forwards or backwards and doesn't necessarily like to hold it's position very well if your hand isn't on the throttle.
These are the majority of my complaints with the Ursa Minor; but I will still recommend it if someone really wants to save money at the cost of the issues I mentioned.
Now I've seen WW change their products based on the feedback they get. So, it's possible that the last issue I mentioned could be fixed in the future. Either way they're both great products in their own way. The VKB is just the more premium option between the two.
@@Hav0k Thank you very much for your detailed response. Very much appreciated. Have a great day and stay safe!
@tonygantt4830 It's an honor to be of help. Fly safe and have a great week!

I have had these for two months now and although I still struggle in game with trying to assign these, theyre probably the best peripherals I have ever seen.
If you need any assistance, feel free to connect to the discord!
I took the Plunge on this exact setup a month or two ago myself. Honestly I am REALLY impressed with how these things feel and perform for the price. I nearly went for the virpils but decided to give these a go and I am glad I did and saved some money.
Virpil is still a really great option. You do pay more for them, but it all depends on what you're willing to spend.
@@Hav0k oh absolutely. Virpils are better, just not sure if they are 3x more expensive better FOR ME. if I spent more time on flight/space sim perhaps they would be worth it. But I do a lot of racing sim and that's where most of my time and financial budget goes.
Just bought the left one with omni throttle a couple of hours ago. Already had the right one.
They're definitely worth it for sure!
How does omi throttle compare to just a second stick or normal throttle? I'm new so sorry if it's a dumb question
@@Nicholas-nu9jx For me the major difference is the up/down strafing feels much more natural.
Great video man! I Love my gladiators very much.. Have had them for maybe 3 years soon but havent used them as much as I would want. But when I do, it's such a pleasant experience. Truly recommended for sure.
Great content man keep em coming let's continue growing your channel! Soon 100k subs.
I appreciate the kind word! The Gladiators really are amazing!
Ever since the new 4.0 release, I’ve been back on watching star citizen videos on TH-cam and more than ever have been considering getting the necessary tools and essentials for a set up and actually buy and play the game. I am fascinated with the foot pedals you have, as not many other pilots on the verse I’ve seen on TH-cam have been using them. It looks like the way i want to pilot a ship too, and i would love a comprehensive video you have on how you made and use your set up, so that i can slo potentially replicate it! Amazing video, and super excited to soon be on the verse!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I can absolutely do that. I'd like to do a video that goes over my setup and how i use it. I'll add this to my notes and begin work on it after the holidays are over.
Thanks for the suggestion! Hope to see you in the verse soon!
@@Hav0k THANK YOU SO MUCH, looking forward to it!
I would LOVE to see a side by side comparison between these and Virpils line like the constellation alphas in all metal. Not worrying about budget, but quality and ergonomics.
I'm a Virpil guy. I went from a RHINO (Which I loved and it still works great despite all of the unfair hate it gets. I NEVER had an issue with it, but to each their own) to Virpil and I have never looked back. Having said that, I like that VKB is a solid middle-market alternative.
Man, that sim setup you have is pretty sweet. Did a quick search through your playlists and don't see a video giving us a full tour of that thing.
It's coming! It's a big project that I'm doing right now with a big announcement. It's taking me a while because I'm trying to do this video justice.
I recently purchased these as well as the STECS and couldn't agree more with your assessment. Next is to save up for the mounts. Also great to see your Isaiah wrist band.
The mounts are a great option for sure! I'm not a big fan of using joysticks on the desk and prefer to mount them instead.
I really want to check out the STECS and do a review and comparison to my CM3. Maybe one day lol.
Thanks! Glad you approve! 😃
Have had mine for about a year and love them. They have been used and abused and just keep on working with zero issues! Only difference between yours and mine is I opted for the omi right stick as well and cannot go back to a straight stick! FYI, you can get an aluminum cam adapter from VKB to swap out the nylon ones and its super affordable. So much so I would have paid the few extra bucks if they would have just built the Gladiators with it in factory!
Nice! That's something I actually didn't know. That's pretty amazing that they offer that! Love to hear that yours is still going strong though!
@@kevinm3751 Can I get a link to that? Ty
Just bought the premium right and premium left omni throttle. Just waiting for the delivery hopefully this week. Hopefully Star Citizen is stable by the time they come.
It's definitely worth it! Even if you use it for other games :)
I went with dual VKB a while ago. They are pretty nice, the delivery time is the only minor issue.
Got my VKBs earlier this year after playing Star Citizen on MKB for nine years, never looking back after moving over to sticks. Well worth the price, don't need anything more than VKBs imo.
I can definitely agree with that. They'll be great controls for a long time for sure.
Great review! It legit just came out as I'm looking to buy a joystick for Star Citizen. Here in Aus the options are more limited in terms of pricing. I've found the Turtle Beach V1 joystick for $100aud LESS than the cheapest VKB joystick so I'll go with that for now. But maybe once I'm more into SC I'll get a Vkb.
I've heard that the Turtle Beach setup is pretty solid. Sometimes we have to settle for something cheaper until we can afford to buy what we really want.
@@Hav0k Absolutely. I'll be honest though, it was mainly the scroll wheel and mini trackpad on the Turtle Beach setup which sold me on it. Will come in handy for controlling SCM speed, mining laser power etc.
@clickbaker1 oh yeah that absolutely would come in handy. Similar to how the Constellation Prime has its scroll wheel as well.
Yea I started with the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas One, moved up to T.16000M HOTAS and finally the VKB HOTAS setup. Takes time and money but you'll get there
@@bobklk51 It's very tempting to just splash out for a HOTAS setup from the get go, but I have a feeling my missus would not be happy about it 😂😅
I ended up buying a set of these for mech warrior 5 and there perfect for it
Nice! They're definitely amazing!
After getting a premium R to accompany my Virpil C Alpha L, I'm now replacing the Virpil with another Vkb Premium L. Fantastic kit.
Virpil and VKB offer some amazing options. There are quite a few upgrades I want to get from both companies pretty soon.
Love the review man. But you need to put the grippers away 😂
Plan on getting these when I can afford it along with some panels and the desk mounts. Itll...be a while before I can afford it though.
They're definitely worth it!
Vkb gladiator nxts are the way. Nothing in it's price range competes with the performance and it is THE entry level for premium flight sticks 👍
I picked up a pair and they're exactly what i needed
Pretty true! But it looks like Winwing I'd trying to compete in the entry level with their new Ursa Minor series. We'll see how they compare to VKB soon.
@@Hav0k haven't seen em yet, definitely post it you can compare them! 👀
Always good to see more options
@@igamewhenimbored7696 winwingsim.com/view/
i ordered your setup but need to wait until 29 of july until i get it OOOF i cant wait
Nice! Honestly, I think you'll be happy with your choice! I have been enjoying my experience with VKB a ton!
you and reddit got me sold.
They're definitely high quality joysticks. Especially for the price! Honestly I don't know of anyone that's been disappointed so far
I love my VKB Gladiator sticks
was watching and noticed you had my old unit on your shit. cool!
No shit? That's crazy! What a small world lol
Bought my VKb’s last year as an upgrade for my T16000’s which are junk. I feel no reason to upgrade to Virpils, these VKB’s work amazing. Also I have a metal secretlab desk. The NXT’s have external mounting points which allows me to add magnets. The magnets work very well and I feel no need to build a sim rig.
Hi there! Thanks for this video! I really needed encouragement to take the plunge. One thing I’m wary of: how do you manage strafing on to model? Thanks!
They truly have a quality feel to them. I had to return them though, since they were too small even with the largest settings on the palm-rest. Yes, I have larger hand-size than most (glove size 12).
That's unfortunate. Hopefully you managed to find something that's sizeable enough to fit comfortably!
@@Hav0k I did... But I had to save up for the deeper echo in my wallet. ;)
@@Mr1FTW lol 😆
I opted for a Virpil Alpha + WarBRD, and a T-50CM2 Throttle. Very expensive, but they're absolute units. The metal gimbals are nigh indestructible and the grip has great weight and lots of inputs.
I have the CM3. It's absolutely a great throttle and I love it. Wish I could get my hands on a WarBRD-D though. That'd be nice to try out.
@@Hav0k yeah, the CM3 came out about 8 months after I got my CM2, as I had to wait for 6 months for the Alpha Grip & throttle due to Covid. Now Virpil's newest stuff is looking real good but it's just such an expense and I can't justify the upgrade because my kit is so sturdy, lol.
@harabecswurveweathers Understandable. They definitely do last even when they release updates. It would be nice if they did what VKB does and provide upgrade kits for their older products to bring it up to the same level as their new stuff.
Great review! Subbed!
Thanks for the sub! Glad you enjoyed the review!
my t16000m dual set is def what got me into loving using joysticks, however I've been eyeing this set all year. SC is the only flight game I play rn though and I don't think I'll buy them until 4.0 drops.
That makes sense. Waiting is always a good option as well!
Will probly get these when sc is better. Id like to see moza make some non ffb sticks for around this price tho. Need competition in this price range
omg I cant believe ROOSTER from TOP GUN is telling me about the VKB.
I have a small desk area so I never thought I could use joysticks. But look at your desk station, I think I might be able to fit them by the arm rests and not the desk itself. I noticed you have a whole armrest desk thing on the left side. Is that gear you recommend, or something you built yourself?
This is setup is from Monstertech and honestly had been a best setup I've ever had. It was fairly costly, but it's worth the investment and will be something I'll use for the rest of my life, to be honest.
They also have desk clamps too that can be attached to a desk or chairs that have mounts attached.
If you want to check them out their website is www.mtsim.com
You can also use my code "hav0k" to get 5% off if you decide to purchase anything. Definitely the best company I've ever worked with.
great video, I love mine
Glad you enjoyed the video and that you're enjoying your NXT's as well.
Started with T16000m since theyre 130, just upgraded to the nxt premium setup like you have which costs about 400. definitely a massive upgrade. I thought about making the omni throttle more like a normal throttle, but the issue I was thinking about is i still want it to recenter so that i can full stop. What are your thoughts on how to do this? Lastly what rudder pedals are you using. I see VKB has some but they dont look like yours.
Would love to see a side by side with this setup and the WINWING Ursa Minor
I'll definitely make sure I include a close comparison in the video.
Winwing essentially made a 1:1 copy of the NXT. The Ursa Minor internals are exactly the same, down to the screw hole placements.
I'm not judging, but make of that what you will.
Winwing gives you the same stick in different "clothing", at a cheaper price.
@@a5cent Almost. Its got some differences. I'm almost done with my review of it as I've been plugging away at it for a few months now.
For one, the pincer style damper isn't as strong as the Evo. So the stick tends to "fall" forward rather than stay in place. I've tried a bunch of different things to no avail.
And the hats are 5 way nav switches, which have some players to them, as opposed to VKBs 4 way tact switches with push.
@@Hav0k That's weird. Shouldn't the springs provide enough tension to prevent the stick from falling forward? Sorry. I'm surely a bit dense when it comes to these things 😂
You're right of course. I didn't take the buttons onto account and was thinking only about the base and how that is put together. That's because I view the grip as an accessory to the base, but I don't even know if they are swappable on Ursa Minors.
I stopped by a store that had both on display and they felt extremely similar to me.
I think both are fine choices. People who are looking primarily for a great deal should go with Winwing IMHO. However, I'd go with VKB because of the extension options available.
@@a5cent Nah, you're fine. So, i actually removed the spring to turn it into a true throttle that remains where you place it in the Y axis, and there's a separate component that controls the dampening to control how tight it is when you move the stick. And as far as I've found, it's not nearly as strong as the VKB. It often times falls forward. Whereas the VKB will stay firmly in place.
It is still a great stick and by far better than any thrustmaster or Logitech, but it does have a few issues i have concerns about.
Hey there Hav0k thank you for the incredible breakdown of this kit. In your opinion do you prefer the left hand omni stick as a throttle over a standard throttle.
I ask this because I'm in the market for a new setup, and I see lots of people using the setup you reviewed in this video. In the past it was an easy choice as it was typically a stick for right and throttle for left.
Anyways would love to get your feedback on this question. Thanks for your insights on VKB products. New sub here.
It's a roughly tough decision cause I love a traditional throttle. But that omni throttle is so useful for translation movements (Strafing up/down and left right). I would say before I got my hands on the VKB, I was a devout hater of HOSAS. But now that I've had a chance to use them, I think they're super useful. Plus, being able to remove the spring to allow the throttle to stay in place is extremely helpful. VKB did a fantastic job with the NXT Evo and I believe it to be one of the best out there.
@@Hav0k I appreciate your response and outlook. I'm specifically asking for space Sims like ED and SC. I should have mentioned that in my first post. With that being said, would that sway your opinion one way or the other?
I've also heard and read that an omni style throttle doesn't feel like it has the same full range of motion of a traditional throttle.
It would also be pertinent to state that the only hotas system I have any experience with is the t160000m. A few hundred hours in ED and a few hours in SC and all of this was several years ago.
Because of your VKB review along with several other reviews I've read and watched I've settled on that stick. I'm just undecided if I want to try the omni or got to a stecs. My only draw back with a stecs is that is looks like it's more suited towards a flight sim than a space sim.
I really appreciate your time and expertise with this subject and for your responses. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me on a 5 month old thread. I usually just get crickets when asking questions like this.
@gamenicity5905 Yeah no worries! It definitely doesn't have the same full range of motion, but honestly in space sims I feel the ability to strafe is much better with the omni throttle.
As always I'm happy to help. I think VKB is an amazing option and I'd say if you're aiming for just space sims, go with the omni throttle. I feel you get much more benefit out of it than getting the STECS.
@@Hav0k That is the exact information I was looking for. Again, thank you for your insights and confirming my suspicion that I would get a better experience with the onmi than a throttle such as the stecs or anything similar.
You have been a tremendous help very much appreciated! 👊
I like the way you presented the gladiator nxt evo joystick and omni throttle, giving them high marks in all categories. The question I have is what type of rudder pedals do you use?
I want to add some other items in the future what advice can you give?
Great review, thanks! I also watched your real simulator reviews from about two years ago - how would you compare their base and f16 stick to these VKBs, particularly for space flight?
For space sims, I'd say go with the VKBs. The RealSim FSSB is awesome in so many ways. But i use it for flight sims the most and usually rock the VKBs for space sims. I'll be testing the combination of the FSSB and VKB side stick
@@Hav0k cool, looking forward to it!
I just picked up the non pro version of the stick and throttle for sim.. I've been using the thrustmaster one and I felt that stick was way too jumpy. Tried out an Evo at my buddies place. It's legitimately in a whole different league.
Fine adjustments are actually possible. Not that much extra money either. You'd be psycho not to spend the extra 30 to 50 bucks
Thanks for the informative review Havok! I've been looking at these for a while and wondering if it's worth replacing my X65F. I got this a few years ago, used, because i was tired of the X56 that were so squishy. I like the force sensing of the X65f and was glad to have found your review with reference to the X65f. How was your transition back to movable axis from using the force sensing? I struggled to get used to FS so I'm not sure i want to go back. Your input would be great! Thanks again!
Nick
I'm on the lookout for new joysticks (mine date back from the 2000's) and this has been a very helpful review. If you don't mind, what rudder do you use in that video ?
Glad you found the video helpful! The rudder pedals is Virpil’s Ace Flight Pedals with their damper upgrade. They're amazing pedals.
@@Hav0k Awesome, thanks, I didn't notice you had a video about those, I'll watch it right away !
What do you think about the new Winwing URSA Minor fighter stick?
Solid stick. Currently working on a review for it right now! The review is nearing completion
For that money I would not hesitate and buy it but in Europe it is around €100,- more expensive so I’m still undecided between VKB and Virpil, any thoughts when the price gap becomes smaller between these?
I've used CH sticks, Logitech sticks, Saitek sticks, Thrustmaster sticks, Turtle Beach sticks, and just about every other brand of stick you can think of except Virpil and I'm not paying that much money for what I have heard lots of bad about. Standard, force feedback, force sensing, been there, done that.
I hate the fact that VKB's are called "budget" sticks, even though they only very technically are. They're budget in price, but not budget in build quality, accuracy, sensitivity, configurability, and the fact that they come with replacement parts (specifically replacement springs because as we all know, springs BREAK...it's the only thing they do, other than be springy). I have the NXT Evo pro and the highest end STECS throttle and they're the best interface devices I've ever put my hands on.
EDIT: Apparently I have the "man paws" because I removed the hand rest entirely :D
Yeah I definitely could have used a better word to do them justice. Their build quality is definitely far better than budget given how amazing they are.
@@Hav0k Nah, I mean, they are technically budget sticks when you consider that they don't cost much more than most of the trash on the market today. I got the NXT EVO Premium and the STECS MAX which, together, cost under $500 and other than WinWing (which I haven't touched so I am discluding them from this comment out of fairness) there's not a HOTAS on the market under $800 that is fit to carry VKB's dirty socks.
Unfortunately the word "budget", in relation to controls, has been equated with "cheap plastic garbage" because of companies like Logitech, TB, Thrustmaster, and others who make sub-par gear that either doesn't do what it claims, stops working/falls apart after a few months, or a combination thereof.
VKB defies that definition, people, and Hav0k is dead right in pretty much everything he said.
@terraphon You're absolutely right about that word. That's probably why a lot of people got triggered that would even suggest that they're a "budget option".
I honestly didn't expect to get some of the angry comments about it.
@@Hav0k Yeah, it's unfortunate that the word has stopped meaning "inexpensive" for so many people and it gets misinterpreted. I'd bet a lot of the angry comments are from people who didn't watch the whole video...where you basically had to reach for a con, that's kind of a con, but not really a con, because glass reinforced nylon is strong and resilient as hell.
Not as resilient as aluminum, of course, but it lasts, just like you said.
A video on your full setup would be good.
That's definitely the plan! It might be a little bit down the road but I was going to make one for sure.
I'm not convinced by the comment that they don't move around without two hands or screwing down, as evidenced at 7:34
This brief part of the video was my very first time using it after unboxing it. I'm used to my joysticks being hard mounted and using military grade equipment that are chonky inside of an M1A2 Abrams. So I tend to have a very firm grip. 😄 Any normal person shouldn't have an issue since they're less likely to be overly aggressive with the controls.
@@Hav0k I think hard mounting or linking the throttle and the stick looks like being a must. Chasing or evading in any space game sees lots of aggressive joystick movements. I'm upgrading from the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X, which I know is a cheap setup and was my first and only HOTAS so far. Ironically, freestanding stability is the one category where the Thrustmaster wins, since they stabilise each other and you have two hands holding the one thing.
Yeah, I would typically recommend most people hard mount their joysticks anyway. If you looking for options to mount them, Monstertech has a ton of solutions that work for many different budget ranges which you can check out at www.mtsim.com
You can also use my code "hav0k" to get 5%. I'm also working on reviewing Winwing's Ursa Minors which are solid options as well and priced a bit lower at $119.
@Dunk1970 yeah I agree with that.
Hey what’s that keyboard you have there havok? I don’t recognize it
That is the Corsair K100 RGB mechanical gaming keyboard. Easily my most favorite keyboard I've ever owned!
Just ordered my sticks. I unfortunately could not go for the Premiums. I hope it does not effect my experience too much.
Nah it definitely won't. The standard models are still great!
@@Hav0k Sweet. Thank you for the info. I also grabbed a Tobi 5 to go with them.
Definitely a good buy as well!
What rudder pedals are you using?
I use Virpil Ace Flight pedals.
What pedals would you recommend?
These! They're the only one's I've used so far though
th-cam.com/video/XubWM2hESzw/w-d-xo.html
If you remove the y axis spring It will just have more forge, it will not block the axis, right?
Correct. This is how I operate it. But currently the damper is a bit too weak for my liking
I've had the Saitek X-45, X-52. The joysticks were major disapointment and failed early.
I eventually purchased a CH Fighterstick in 2011 and a used X-56 throttle in 2020 and have stayed with them since.
If this VKB is as durable as the claim, it might be a solid replacement as the CH stick
Yeah I have never been a fan of Logitech's products. But I can confirm that VKB is amazing and will last for years.
What flight pedals are you using or do you recommend I’m looking for a similar quality to the VKB that will fit SC flight?
Personally, I use the Virpil Ace Flight Pedals. They're fairly spendy, but worth every penny and are arguably some of the best rudders you can get. I've heard Winwing's pedals are also very good as well, but I honestly haven't tested them.
Was going to get these but going to try my luck with Winwing's Ursa Minor Fighter and Space sticks. Don't care if they're scrutinized for being copycat rip-offs of the VKB NXT EVO Gladiators. They're more of a budget class and because Winwing has a US store there's no need to pay import fees jacking up the price. I have a feeling these Winwing sticks are going to be the new budget king. They also have Haptic Feedback, another plus over the VKB's. Not FFB but at least something for greater emersion.
I can understand the interest. That will be one of my next review videos. VKB also has a US warehouse as well.
@@Hav0k I know they have a VKB North American but they still ship all orders out of China imposing import and high shipping fees to the VKB NA warehouse, while Winwing offers free shipping of product that's available at their US warehouses. It's a longer wait time for restock, but hey when I hear free, it also means my wallet has been released from the shackles of my pocket.
@arielis78 ahh I see what you're saying. Well, hopefully they work out a solution so they can reduce importing costs at some point.
if you have an US store you just don‘t see the importing fees in the receipt, but they are also included in the priceif made in china…
@@ZaphodTube Still $240 for a Hosas WW Ursa Minor vs $390 VKB NXT EVO Hosas is a BIG difference for Premium entry level sticks. I will save $150 and get Extra Inputs and Haptic Feedback, loosing only a scroll wheel.
It's perfect for right now in ALPHA of Star Citizen. I don't want permanent sticks until he game is out because Virpil could have two iterations on their best stick before then.
Pretty accurate. There will be a lot of joysticks between now and release. But the nice thing is that it will still be great for many years to come.
@@Hav0k Agreed. I adore my Gladiator. I wish VKB had a version of the T16000 throttle. I love the design but the quality leaves a lot to be desired for the price.
@@DaringDan honestly that's probably something they're working on
I want a pair, but I can't afford them at the moment. bought 3/4 of a new pc and had to stop due to financials. really bites having to look at a half a built pc every day.
I empathize with that. I had to do that a long time ago when finances weren't great several years ago. It really is frustrating. Everything comes in time though!
@alexanderdooley5833 be patient bro, grind steady and make sure all parts are compatible, when I built my pc I couldn't get it to turn on so I completely disconnected all wiring and redid it and turns out I had 1 extra wire that I connected for no reason, good luck next thing u know ur pc will be running like new there's way to many things to distract us for the meantime 👍
Are pedals necessary or are they more of a luxury?
Definitely not necessary. But they are super useful for getting those tiny, minute adjustments to get on target
thx for the Vid. If you use the stick with a Monstertech Mount. Do you install the metal blade that comes with the base or do you mount in directly to the Mount?
I mount the stick directly to the monstertech mounts. Much better that way
Great. Thx
It's $450 here in Australia. Real "budget" joystick lol. A budget one would cost $50. This VKB is a very decent joystick.
Yeah that's pretty speedy in Australia. Much cheaper here for sure
Any comparison with WinWing's Ursa Minor?
In the process of reviewing these as well. They're very similar in many ways, and cost a bit less. However, there some nuances to it that attribute to its lower cost. The hats for one and the lack of stiffness of the damper.
@@Hav0k I am just torn between these two. But as I want also buy the VKB STECS, I am leaning a bit more towards the Gladiator NXT.
Honestly, while the Ursa is great, the NXTs offer a better quality damper that allows you to make things more dialed in. And the hats and use 4 way tact switches with push. Which are higher quality.
Curious how you switch between space sims and flight sims using this throttle since space wants a centering axis of -100 to 0 to +100 and flight sims want a 0-100 "stay where you leave it". I get that you can remove the spring and tighten down the cams but I'm finding it really hard to feel the zero detent without the spring's help so my ship is often still moving when I think it's centered. It's making it much more difficult to fly this way. Any thoughts?
So I'm rdy to go in on these sticks np but should i just scoop the feet with it? How many recommend getting the whole package or start with just sticks?
This setup is 1,000% worth every penny
do you need feet paddle to have smoot rotation of the ship or does it works well with the joystick only?
In my experience, using rudder pedals are much smoother than using the joystick.
Im planning to buy a set of these to replace my X52 Professional HOTAS and was wondering what else you would recommend for Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous. Im already looking at the stuff from Monstertech for my new seat and "desk".
I'd definitely recommend some type of head tracking. I just makes things so much better to be able to look around when flying. I use TrackIR 5, but I hear a lot of good things about Tobii Eye Tracker. I love having rudder pedals as well. Having another axis is always a positive in my opinion.
@@Hav0k I actually agree on the rudder pedals and have the Saitek one right now. Those will probably be replaced with something else in the future.
@MatthewN8OHU yeah I use to have those as well. After a long while of using them, I opened them up to fix them and realized an upgrade was long overdue. So I bought Virpils lol
@@Hav0kI'm getting the VKB T-Rudder instead.
@@MatthewN8OHU those are still great products as well
Hi i would like to know wich supports for the joysticks do you use pls
Hi! I use the Monstertech MTS rig for my joysticks. It's a fantastic modular setup that's highly customizable for different configurations. You can check it out on the Monstertech website www.mtsim.com, and if you decide to purchase, feel free to use my discount code 'hav0k' for 5% off. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Low Budget is a relative term
Low budget in the flight sim products market.
It’s really sad that Logitech doesn’t provide reliable offerings. They make some legendary gaming peripherals and have the fastest, most reliable, and longest lasting wireless systems for headphones, keyboards, and mice.
If they just consulted a professional or another company in building a HOTAS, they could make some awesome stuff and I’d happily buy it
I definitely agree that it would be beneficial to collaborate with a company experienced in building flight sim peripherals. If they did, they could probably provide a pretty competitive option.
What pedals are you using and what do you use them for?
The pedals are the Virpil Ace Flight Pedals, and I use them for Yaw control.
How do these sticks and your rig work for a game like Mechwarriors 5 and Mechwarriors 5 Clans?
I've honestly never tried it, but I have used these sticks for controlling other ground vehicles in Star Citizen and they work amazingly. l I'd expect them to work flawlessly with Mech Warrior 5 or any other mech style game.
454 euro damm thats pricey bro im gonna have to pass on that i need to eat this month my guy
@Hav0k do you recommend the premium stick and the omni or just the stick for SC? dont want pedals, I have has the X52 but when I was playing SC they really didnt have a set up for them now they do but I would like to upgrade to something better any help is appreciated
If you're willing to spend the money I'd absolutely recommend both! Upgrading to both will give you quite a few extra buttons and the gimbals they use is a substantial benefit over the old ball in socket design the x52 uses.
@@Hav0k Whats your thoughts on the prem stick and the stec standard? reason I ask is we mostly mine and salvage and eventually build if I did both sticks not sure how it could be set up for mining etc....
Premium stick and standard STECS are really solid options as well. I've heard a lot of great things about their throttle. I'd love to take a look at it in the future to review myself!
hearing the vkb sticks are budget sticks hurts so much lol i could barley afford my right stick and trying to save up for the left one XD
i owned the X52 hotas for years but they finally crapped out
I wish you compared to constellation ALPHA to see if price increase is worth it
Sadly I don't have a gimbal from Virpil yet. So I wouldn't be able to reliably compare the two. But Virpil's gimbals are all metal and could potentially last longer or feel a bit more rigid.
what are those pedals for. like what do they control
Those are rudder pedals
most people set them to yaw (rotation of a vehicle or stiff body about its vertical axis) in game
I really want a set of these, however, I live in a country where I cannot get them shipped to. My only option: after messaging the company, if I can save up the money, I can order a set and go pick them up from their Holland office. So... they aren't really "budget" for me anymore
:( That's really unfortunate. They're really amazing sticks!
@@Hav0k yea. every review i've watched about them has had nothing but praise... so i'm going to save to take that trip to Holland and get a set
@thetattoodmini Hopefully, it won't force to spend too much fir that trip
Cool sticks ... but that big toe english on the pedals - over the top!
Whoops.
Accurate enough to be competitive in pvp against m+k users? (and decoupled?)
100%
@@Hav0k 🤯
Sorry to bother you again, but would you say the same without the pedals? Still able to get that fine precision?
Does it have a yaw axis anyway or should I really get pedals? If so, what model are you using?
Thanks a lot.
@@ShinigamiGrin Not a bother at all! I'd say that if you use the twist and adjust the sensitivity curves in SC (under controls) so that it the curves are more dramatic, it will offer you a solid l amount of control.
@@Hav0kso, just to see if I get it right, the accuracy of which you speak of is related to the usage of the whole thing, including pedals?
If you have pedals, what do you use the twist axis for? 👀
Sorry but I have wasted money already and I'd just like to understand what I'm going to need.
Thanks again, really appreciated 🙏
PS
Do you have discord? I can bring the discussion there if you prefer 😅 I've checked the info but I can't find it ✌️
many specialists still play keyboard mouse and are among the best pvp players... even if playing with a 3 or 400th setup helps, in my opinion it is really not essential. As pedals and Tobii too.
Don't think I made any such comparison to M&K cause it was about comparing it to other similar products.
Does anyone know why there are no American based companies trying to make these things? VKB and Winwing ship from China
I think it's largely cause many of these companies wanted to corner the market in flight simulators, and most US companies didn't care. I'm guessing as these games become more popular there might be a few. But Thrustmaster is a US company.
@Hav0k seems like an enterprising start-up could really upset the market with domestic US manufacturing. Thinking start by doing high-quality 3d printing for grips, or try to figure out how to do them out of something like kydex.
@spartakos3178 i agree. They could probably do really well for sure.
just need them to reduce costs more and improve design to compensate
a hotas that is HIGHH quaLITY AND COSTS 140 BUCKS WOULD BE the sweet spot
way to many sticks are pushing high 400s for things that in the 90s would cost 50 bucks
This is when CHINA could just clone VBK and ruin them lol aliexpress be like 30 bucks
Lol, I'm in the process of reviewing Winwing's Ursa Minor and I think they'll hit that sweet spot for some people.
what's up with them feet dawg?
Wait, these are budget?
Given the many different options out there. Yes. They provide the best performance for incredible value and in a budget range.
These are not nearly budget.
These are 4-8 times the price of budget.
These are maybe, *maybe*; the “cheapest” of the high end. A budget stick is like $40-80; not $800 with custom spring weights and shipping from out of country.
If your budget car is a BMW; I think we failed the assignment
@Korrack In the world of Flight and Space Sims, these are indeed budget given their cost and quality. If you're looking for $40=$80, you're probably playing war thunder or Ace Combat. Not DCS or Star Citizen. Considering the standard model is $135, that's not 4-8 times the price of your perceived budget.
To other people, however, they may actually see this as a great budget option.
@@Korrack And that budget figure you claim, goes right out the window when you replace those every 6-12 months.
VKB's lasting years, makes them a better budget buy for a consumer.
BMW is really no better than any other car. In some cases worse. Bad comparison.
@@Korrack Where do you get that these are $800, they are $135 and if you are paying $80 for budget sticks then these are not even double that but I bet you will be going back for new ones soon. Get real.
VKB is good. VIRPIL is way better.
I also have Virpil. They're both great.
On my list. Gorram property taxes first.
Nothing is ps5 compatible 😭
I don't think that you can call honestly these budget options.
$135 USD? They're the higher end of budget for games like DCS and Star Citizen.
Budget? Good joke. Must be nice to see several hundred dollars as "budget". I'd rather buy the Tobi eye tracker first.
Say what you will, for a premium stick, that's budget. Just because they're not in your price range doesn't make it an untrue statement or a joke.
Can I really trust a guy that has his BARE FEET out in a review video?
Yes, yes you can. You telling me you don't go barefoot in your house? 🤣
Absolutely, but usually I don't film it 😂... Usually.
@eyestonedaniel definitely an oversight lol
can you do a video on your control layout with the pedals included please?
For Star Citizen? Absolutely. It might take a bit, but I'll be happy to do a video of the control layout
Seeing how someone else does it is good for a start.
But not everyone is comfortable with the same things.
You will find your comfort too.
There is no right or wrong.
