you might friend have been scammed. The original screen (from warthog project) was the SimPit Avenger PRO with the real ambient light rejection surface made here in NZ. That's why your image looks so washed out and why you have the band in the middle (the paints are scam). If you have bought the original product you would have had better product for far less ;-). You actually have analog switches in your control boards that function with the Game Program AND THEN,.. made it all modular for different games on top of that!!! Made the little kid in me giggle so hard!!! DREAM Set Up for SIMs to be sure! NEVER seen anything this thoroughly created!!! Superbly Done!!!

@@stapes808Go cheap like me. i got 3TV's cheap and use them, thrustmaster m16000 and farmstick, razer tarturous pro, and a cheap tablet for gameglass. took a bunch of scrap wood and screwed them to the chair. Also got 3 VR headsets though so the TV's might be coming down. the quest 3 is enough to replace them.
This for some reason gives me vibes of a future where immersion systems like this coupled with cheap stationary hydraulics create effectively an actual spaceship, you and your friends could crew in real life, virtually.
That technically already exists, that's basically how flight training works for commercial pilots. They have a cockpit with hydraulics and a flight sim.

Next step would require you build a tilt platform and subwoofers that interface with your chair. That way when you’re turning your cockpit tilts and when you get hit your chair vibrates.

And I thought my $5K gaming PC was expensive. LOL. This is an incredible setup, I genuinely love the modularity. If I ever got into the sim stuff this is exactly how I'd go about it. DIY everything I can and make damn sure it's modular so I can easily switch things around for different games. A truly impressive sim setup for sure.
How does one spend $5k on a gaming PC? Pretty sure if you got all the best components possible and did custom watercooling on top of that just cause, it'd be like $3.5k.

The modularity is exactly the inspiration I needed for my sim pit. I want an f-16 pit but need to compromise because I also need an IFR trainer to keep my skills sharp IRL, so this would solve a lot of that!

I had a setup like this about 14 years ago with the 180 degree curved projection screen, it was awesome. Now though it's VR all the way... just for practical purposes. Can't beat it!
the fact you made it modular is why your setup is so much better than others, people need a second setup usually for other gaming etc hence why their setups pale in comparison.....you catered for that, world class!!

well, you might be inclined to think that Star Citizen sucks based on its kind of ridiculous development timeline 🥲 but there's no denying that this SETUP is amazing and he can use this rig to enjoy other games beyond SC itself. I've seen numerous at home pilot rigs built on youtube and the quality/detail of this setup, including the seamless wraparound display is objectively admirable

You can maybe add a gyroscopic gun to the setup? When going on foot, slide out the chair, and pick up the gun. Maybe you can use some mapping software to map the mouse and keyboard movements to gyroscopic gun or even your tobii headtracking.
That's fantastic. Great job. I designed and built my own helicopter controls for use in VR. They're pretty basic and shagnasty, but they're clever and they work. I enjoyed working out how to do it. Your setup is excellent. Well done
I’ve played in set ups like this. Nothing beat playing flight simulators in vr, especially combat. Being able to turn your head and look for enemies and also the mind fuck it gives, like your actually pulling Gs is unmatched. And I did for less than $1000. Talk about immersion.

I remember kickstarting this game like over a decade ago, I forgot all about it after following for aprox 5 years (figured they just took my money) then I seen this video and thought wow it released and I didn't even know LOL quick search said nope still taking peoples money no release WOW!! after ALL THESE YEARS
For games that don't support VR, I can create a similar curved screen setup using the Virtual Desktop Classic software and a fake monitor driver. I have a Pimax Crystal headset, which has the best in-class screen you can get on a VR headset which is comparable to a monitor. Only downsides imo is the weight of the headset and the lower FOV than you get with an actual curved screen. But at least I don't have this physical setup taking up so much room.

If only Star Citizen would add VR support soon, I'd be fully immersed in that game. I've already invested in nearly everything Virpil has to offer for my simulator setup. Building stuff is my passion too. Currently, I'm constructing my own cockpit. With VR hand tracking technology being so advanced, coupled with programs like Reality Mixer on Steam, seamlessly blending the physical cockpit with the virtual world is incredibly satisfying. It creates a flawless transition between realities. its absolutely perfect.
Yeah, some day if the mixed reality applications would be so advanced that you could have somewhat seamlessly physical cockpit and game, it would be interesting.
@@UndeadParrot its there the program Reality mixer is perfect for that. l look at my keyboard and it a "portal" will spawn and give me a windows around the keyboard so i can see the physical keyboard ect. same with my HOSAS. and everything else i need to see while flying.
Amazing overview of what you’ve created! I plan on officially building my cockpit this summer and using yours and Warthog Project ideas as good guides. Have you finished making panels for SC and have you made any specific for DCS? My cockpit will be a multi-ship/multi-game combining various aspects of the F-16, A-10, F/A-18, and Eclipse. The goal isn’t to make a final cockpit, but evolve aspects as my interests develop and SC incorporates more inputs into their game.
Sounds like an interesting project! I'm actually not going forward with this cockpit, but start building OpenHornet cockpit next. At least the frame, and then modify it into modular setup. This way I could continue building nearly 1:1 Hornet cockpit but still make it modular.

Yeah, the perpetual alpha/early access can be annoying. On the other hand, I’ve spent more time with this than most of finished games.

Only downsides imo is the weight of the headset and the lower FOV than you get with an actual curved screen. But at least I don't have this physical setup taking up so much room.

Only thing this set-up needs is an option in SC to change the cockpit view to a "bumper" view for dang near 100% immersion. Very impressive.

If only Star Citizen would add VR support soon, I'd be fully immersed in that game. I've already invested in nearly everything Virpil has to offer for my simulator setup. Building stuff is my passion too. Currently, I'm constructing my own cockpit. With VR hand tracking technology being so advanced, coupled with programs like Reality Mixer on Steam, seamlessly blending the physical cockpit with the virtual world is incredibly satisfying. It creates a flawless transition between realities. its absolutely perfect.
Yeah, some day if the mixed reality applications would be so advanced that you could have somewhat seamlessly physical cockpit and game, it would be interesting.
@@UndeadParrot its there the program Reality mixer is perfect for that. l look at my keyboard and it a "portal" will spawn and give me a windows around the keyboard so i can see the physical keyboard ect. same with my HOSAS. and everything else i need to see while flying.

Amazing overview of what you’ve created! I plan on officially building my cockpit this summer and using yours and Warthog Project ideas as good guides. Have you finished making panels for SC and have you made any specific for DCS? My cockpit will be a multi-ship/multi-game combining various aspects of the F-16, A-10, F/A-18, and Eclipse. The goal isn’t to make a final cockpit, but evolve aspects as my interests develop and SC incorporates more inputs into their game.

I'm actually not going forward with this cockpit, but start building OpenHornet cockpit next. At least the frame, and then modify it into modular setup. This way I could continue building nearly 1:1 Hornet cockpit but still make it modular.
