Thank you for the demonstration. I always thought I had to find someone that knew how to weld aluminum. I'll be putting this new found knowledge to the test here soon. Thanks again
I have a crack in the same spot on my jon boat. I was taking in a bunch of water the last time I took it out. I had to keep pumping it out every hour. I'm about to fix it this weekend. Thanks for the video
Those aluminum brazing rods are life savers. I think there’s like 6 or 7 in a tube for the Hobart rods and under 20 bucks. For anyone attempting this, can’t stress enough the prep work. GOTTA BE CLEAN! Good video Josh!
I used low temp brazing rod on my pontoon, the braze seemed to be porous and still had little bubbles under a pressure test so I used JB weld on top of it. Probably just a cheap rod (Harbor Freight)
I almost went with the harbor freight rods, but a few months ago, Fishin' n Stuff used them and had a little better results out of the Hobart rods. That's why I went with those.
Let it be known that cleaning with brake cleaner on welding surfaces is not recommended. Some brake cleaners are "Chlorinated" and when heating the residue, the fumes will kill you.

That is some useful information, which I am sure has many applications.
Awesome information and a super inexpensive fix!!! Awesome video!!!
Great tip Josh. I may have to use it on my old boat when I redo it.
Nice job
Great tip Josh!!!
Thank you for this video. I was thinking of using jb weld. But I feel like this will last longer

Good video Josh!
Thanks, brother. Yeah if there's any impurities you will find out fast!
Awesome video man! I've never brazed aluminum but tried some bronze rods back in the day with an oxyacetelyne torch. Also, we miss you on MW lol.
Lol I'll be back soon
Thks good stuff
What type of rod did you use? Currently trying to fix the same exact issue.
Can it be done from the bottom
Yeah, you can do it either way.
Great trick Josh 👍 Where did you buy your brazing rods?
Thank you! I buy mine at Rural King
I tried to do it and I made a bigger hole, now what do I do?

@@TheWeekendAngler good call
I tried that and the weld would Crack down the middle where I did that. Any idea what I may have done wrong?
You didnt heat the metal hot enough?
Can you do it from underneath I have a heavy Jon boat with a cracked rivet I removed the rivet
You could that would work
how do you keep the torch lite when upside down mine shuts off
I don't do anything special. I've never had any issues like that with mine.
Propane gas will work but I used a mapp gas torch and made the job a little quicker and used less gas to get the job done....
Mapp will work fine too. I had actually planned on using Mapp, but my cylinder ran out right as I was starting the video. Off to Plan-B. LOL.
Which brazing torch and gas did you use?
I used a bernzomatic propane torch with regular propane in the blue bottle.
What’s the part number?
Can you give me more info on the Hobart rods. Part #? I couldn’t find on line.
Hobart 770206
Thanks
