- This was my first meet up 1 day tournament, There was about 20 kayak anglers this day on chilhowee lake in east Tennessee. It started off cold but began to warm up but the wind started blowing making the it rough.

That first fish was so nice, it really stinks it didn't count. Kudos to you for not only putting it in the video but for also not trying to fib and make it count.

Attempted to fish there today. 12-30. I put in where you stopped for lunch. Small launch right there. wind today was around 12-15 mph. Ended up going into Abrams Creek. Its great living so close. 5th place is great. I skunked today. Heck I even tried the hellgramite. I love my HooDoo pedal drive. Made it a lot easier to fight the wind.

Enjoyed it . Watching the first couple minutes gave me chills as I could see how cold you were .
Speaking about structure in that Lake, they lowered that Lake about 5 years ago to do some repair to the damn. There are a number of TH-cam videos where people flew drones over top of it. You can get a really good idea of the bottom of that Lake and some of those videos. Well worth checking out if you plan to come back up in the area.
I would have been sick with that choppy water haha. I cant wait for spring to get back on the creek and kayak. Great video!
Next time you're up there, go underneath that bridge I hate Upstream. That is Abrams Creek. Yes, the same Abrams Creek we're Abrams Falls gets its name in Cades Cove. If you go up a little ways and keep left, it had some pretty good fishing up there when the creek becomes narrow.
Well I guess that will answer your question John. Whether to get a pedal kayak or a paddle kayak!

Nice job. The Eagle shot was beautiful. Install a little lightweight anchor system...it'll drag a little in significant current and wind resulting in slower better positioning/more casting, but still with a little movement right down the bank. Keep it up. Peace

I've lost count of the times I've passed by that lake, on my way to fly fishing in the Smokies.
I laughed so hard when you realized the time was to early on that first fish. That s the kind of stuff that happens to fisherman. I can appreciate your frustrations with the wind, I use a 12 foot john boat most of the time with electric motor but sometimes the wind is just too much. Your relief at the end was classic i can just relate. PS thanks for the eagle shot.

Just goes to show you don’t need a $2000 kayak with pedal drive or trolling motor with a $499 gps/depth finder/fish finder. A $450 kayak from Walmart, someone who loves to fish and a good paddle can do very well in a bass fishing tournament!! Good job good luck next time and keep ripping lips... 👊🏾🔥💯

Another great video man! That's the number one reason I bought a Pelican Bass Raider instead of a kayak. The wind is always blowing here in Oklahoma so kayaking is a no go for me.

Wow,you did the right thing tho,i heard you said u wanted another kayak,have you thought about a trolling mtr on your yak?allot cheaper than a new yak and makes fishing in wind/waves super easy,and you could wait for the yak you want,may find you don't need pedals the mtr is the ish in my opinion!

I would rather fish in the rain than fish in the wind. It's especially frustrating in a paddle kayak. It's hard to fish when you have to keep stopping to adjust your kayak with the paddle. It even bothers me when I'm in my big boat or on the bank. I'm really enjoying these kayak vids.👊👍

Was there a lot of dead shrubs and saplings just below the water? When they drained the lake a few years ago a "forest" practically grew before they refilled the lake. Seemed like it would be a hang up nightmare.

John, Old Town Predator PDL, it has a much more durable hull than a Hobie, 5 year warranty on the hull, and the pedal drive system is so much more durable than the Hobie as not to be funny. It is like comparing an all wheel drive SUV to a off road vehicle with solid axles and full locker. Toy vs rugged machine.

pretty solid - on big water you always stand chance to get the monster fish - think trying some big live bait or big spillway smallmouths - it may be time to plan a florida trip - fish a half mile off the beach and try to catch a sailfish - maybe you could just do a bunch of s florida creeks, catch some pythons for lunch etc etc - you have to do your homework and not be in a rush, allow for side diversions #road trip
florida surf and flats fishing - chumm with shrimp and/or herring or whatever they have catch 3x more fish - you could do the everglades in the kayak

Hi John. Could you explain how you rig and fish the Nikko hellgrammite on: creeks v ponds/lakes? That is, with and without current? I know its your go to bait. I have some of these baits, but im hesitant to use them. Im usually fishing ultralight spinning rig with very light braid + 4 lb mono leader.....thanks!
Thats not bad 5th..atleast your buddy won thats cool..i also do the oldscholl paddling and its gets tiring . But unfortunately I don't have an extra two plus thousand dollars for a hydro Drive one of these days you'll be pedalin right by em tournament winner..lol

excellent john. I couldn't fish with paddling, I'd have to have peddles for sure.
Thing about it is you are true kayaking. Paddle drive is easier but not real kayaking. Just my opinion. Have 2 kayaks myself, thought about buying peddle drive, but just can't do it. Great video.
