I’m just like you John. I had to get out. I had never fished while it was snowing. I went out for a couple of hours last Friday and fished in the snow. I caught one Coosa bass and one large mouth. Wasn’t a lot but I had a blast. Love watching your show.

That's a flycatcher species bird - probably a Phoebe. They can be wildly bold. I once had one on my farm that took a liking to me. Would hand feed him crickets and worms and he'd perch on my head. Our relationship ended with a peck to my eye and a bad corneal abrasion. Turns out my pupil reminded him of a cricket.

I think you might find that the cold weather is easier to deal with if you are wearing a float suit like ice fishermen and some bass tournament fishermen wear in the winter. In the kayak it's a very good idea because when water temps are down to 34 degrees like they have been your life jacket might keep you floating but the initial cold shock of hitting the water seizes up muscles and makes you unable to get yourself out of the water but a float suit locks in the heat and gives you a fighting chance. It will also keep you toasty even out of the water.
I grew up fishing the clinch. If you can catch fish in the clinch or Norris you can catch them anywhere in the country. I respect you and your channel. I don’t know to many people who would fish clinch in 35 degree weather. Awesome work! Great video

Other than a gull or seabird getting tangled in my line fishing off a boat in the salt, Eastern Phoebe only bird I have ever hooked in mouth (excuse me, beak) while casting a small Mepps spinnner in a creek. Didn't get much of a fight from it :) and was realeased mostly unharmed except for a small hole in its beak. Suspect John's bird was preying on winter stoneflies.
Not that we’ll get proper snow like this, but I’m hoping to fish soon with some FREEZING temps. LOVE that scenery up there man. Keep up the good work. God bless
I've fished the clinch river, northern Oak Ridge, Claxton, Clinton, and Knoxville areas. Just wished I was more knowledgeable back in my teen age years. Happy to see you out there in this cold. I'll do it, only when my line and reels don't freeze up, lol.

That's like the seagulls in Florida. They will catch your shrimp when you toss it out, then freak when they get hooked. My buddy caught a pelican that way

I had a bat attack my Hula Popper in the air one night fishing Wildwood Park in Bridgewater VA. I like to throw top water at night for bass. I have pictures of the bat on the ground all tangled up in my line with hooks in it.

The bird is an eastern Phoebe. They nest under bridges like that in the spring.
