I listened to Day9 so much in college that, I can put it on and I find his voice soothing enough to do work and papers to. His style of teaching and showing is really something awesome.
I would watch a million of these videos. I don't even want to learn starcraft 1. I just love your breakdown and learning about styles within a historical context.
It's so wonderful to have a fully informed commentary from someone who bothered to pre-watch the game so you are 100% prepared to cover all the key moments. Fantastic! Also 10/10 Awesome cat moment. Love it!
I LOVE that Sean did this series... I really miss the sc2 content but it's GREAT to see him in his element and talking about starcraft again. I can feel his love and excitement for this game in a way that I don't see when he's playing other games. As a bonus, I thought I wouldn't get a lot out of this because I'm fairly experienced at brood war- but I was immediately surprised at that I'm actually learning quite a lot. Amazing as always...
I was worried I'd find low budget 480p videos from 2009 with no charisma or character and only ten minutes long when I searched for Starcraft tutorials, but your series has met every criteria and done away with any fears I had about it all. Hours of content born from passion, well planned and executed subjects, high production and clean presentation, recent and relevant information, it has it all. I will be watching this whole series from beginning to end. +1 Starcraft fan and appreciator thanks to you.
I remember watching proleague and osl matches back around 07. We had to wake up at like 4am in the morning and hope for someone in korea to restream the matches for like 50 western nerds that couldn't wait for the vods. Everything was korean back then until people like Day9 and Artosis started to produce commentary in english. We even had to download the korean gom tv app and learn to find the brood war streams despite everything being written in korean signs. I had tears in my eyes when i watched ASL season 10 live on youtube with english commentary. So much has happened in the past 10 years its beautiful. Broodwar is still played, its more accessible than ever. Thank you Day9, Artosis, Tasteless, Moletrap... and all the other pioneer brood war commentators that contributed to this being possible.
I first came across Day9 on the famous Savior vs Bisu finals, and was amazed at the level of insight he was able to give, how accurately he was able to get a reading on the deeper strategy of the players in the game unfolding. Still to this day, I don't think there's anyone else as good at this as him.
Man, watching this video still gives me the warm fuzzies. Sean + Starcraft = happy. Every time. Your passion is so contagious. I’m transported back to the early 2000’s when I had time to play Starcraft constantly and the nostalgia is complete. You’re an amazing guide to this joy, Sean, and I look forward to the day I get to hang out with you again and share a beer along with our passions.
I watched this and got hyped and jumped on ladder with toss. Literally the first game I play against the FD build and get the easiest win with the 1 gate range opening. Day9 dropping the knowledge like always.
I know you've been told this many times before probably but your content gets me more hyped than any other content in youtube. I can't believe I'm watching an analysis of a 2008 BW game, it's like my wet dream. I hope we get to see lots more analysis like this, it was really entertaining. MOST FAMOUS PROBE
These analysis are so awesome to watch. Starcraft falls in the category of games I hate to play and/or are so frustrating to play for me, like League of Legends, but I LOVE to watch pros and analysis. Keep it up!
This brings me back - my entire college career was spent watching pro starcraft. 2006-2008 were amazing years. I used to watch videos in the early days with amateur english commentary. Diggity, Moletrap, so many more great people who just did it for the love of the game. Amazing community.
I started watching this just because I'm psyched to see Sean back on Starcraft, but by the end I was itching to play! Really great and informative video.
Man this has been so fun to watch I wish I found your channel years ago your love for StarCraft and the way you convey knowledge is second to none Thankyou for making my day
I'm not a starcraft guy but I love this, just like how I don't play magic but have watched every spellslingers episode. Day9 is an amazing human and personality. I'd watch him host literally anything.
So glad that I could find this channel, whitch discuss so deeply into every aspects and details about starcraft matches. You understand the game so well.
Hey Sean aka. Day9 :) I have come to love you through your learning journey in Dota 2 and it made me want to watch this "Lets Learn Starcraft" series. I am a part of the "know little to nothing" about Starcraft group that you mentioned in the first video and I have about 25-30 hours of SC2 gametime experience. I don't know if other people feel the same way, but I have got to say it feels weird and it's hard to follow, when we jump straight into game analysis before understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the different units. On the other hand, I get excited for this cause I can tell how excited you are and it makes me want to continue watching. I look forward to watching the next videoes in the series! :)
I actually got to play fantasy zvt and he rolled me with a 1 base m&m fb push... it was sad. But still getting to play one of the best players is an honor in itself.
Yeah man, watched alll those back then. I was a huge Stork fan for a while before that, because he always seemed like such a chill and humble dude. And then BAM! finally!
Thanks Day9 for your insight and breakdowns of the game. I moved to China and recently started trying online games in the region...but get my butt handed to me by Koreans. I feel my gameplay improved a bit since watching your vids.
Watching HuskyStarcraft casting Stork's matches is the first thing I remember using TH-cam for, he's still one of the only pro players I know by name and reputation. Brings back good memories :)
Good God! That second comeback from Fantasy is mind blown! The vulture passing through eggs by letting the barrack land on, the Wraith (most useless unit of SC) to counter Shuttle. BOOM! My brain...
I used to play on b.net right after the original game (pre-broodwar) came out. Iirc it came out in the spring of 1998, so I played the hell out of it through the summer up until fall sports started up. I remember pulling off some insane stuff in 1v1 games. Sadly, I never got back into it - school and the military and life came. Playing the remaster all these years later (with some SC2 thrown in but nothing serious), I have zero idea how in the hell I was able to play like I did back in the day. This game is hard, man! But it's awesome. Still holds up and is more fun and engaging any other RTS out there. Wish I would've stuck with it. I can't play football anymore but I can still play Starcraft.
I started playing again when remaster came out but I never really put any effort into 1v1 before, getting crushed every game feelsbadman. I'll get there though
I was never interested in 1v1 either, same goes for FPS games. I find the absolute chaos and unpredictability of 4+ player free-for-all to be much more fun. You can't just do your vulture/tank spam when at any time you can also be attacked bu Zerg, or another terran, or both! In FFA games like that, just for shits and giggles, I like to throw in one or two CPU opponents.
Wish you would break down a modern series with this kind of depth. Flash's random run would be a great starter, or any of Larva's series on his winning run.
Every single of those matches are awesome, but that last one was the best one, it had everything: some fake cheese to unsettle your adversary, some great micro and macro....a work of art.
This is great. I'm 10min in. As an experienced SC2 player, I understand everything he is saying very well. But I look at this, and think about my friend who doesn't really know that much. She will never understand this. At the start, the Probe set up for proxy. He should have paused the video when the SCV saw the Probe. So it shows what angle it is coming from, and the SCV went up to check. Then there was the gateway being built. He should have mentioned more what was being built, and more about it.
Goddamn I love watching these. The StarCraft music gives me fucking goosebumps. I remember the day the original SC and brood war came out, I purchased them both on release and was instantly in love. I believe I was in like 7th grade or so at that time (yeah im old), and I played on the early battle.net for years and years and years. Brood War was my go to game until Counter Strike Source/Half Life 2 came out. This is like peering back into my past, and its just so nostalgic. All the sound effects, and ambiance in that game was so fucking good. There will never be another game like it that will give that type of experience ever again. Everything now is all so flashy and full of bullshit, coated with amazing graphics. That's why I miss the old days of gaming, where gameplay reigned supreme, and if the graphics weren't amazing nobody gave a shit. Oh well, at least console gaming is basically dead, and I can play my SNES cartridges of FF6/Secret of Mana/Earthbound etc. forever.
I didn't realize how much I missed hearing Day9 talk about StarCraft until I heard Day9 talking about StarCraft again. This is my ASMR.
I listened to Day9 so much in college that, I can put it on and I find his voice soothing enough to do work and papers to. His style of teaching and showing is really something awesome.
Sean 9, you're a great guy, an awesome person, very intelligent, and very inspirational. Just wanted to say thank you for your work.
9:30 "These are not SC2 zealots, these are SC1 zealots. And they don't fuck around" - died here
I would watch a million of these videos. I don't even want to learn starcraft 1. I just love your breakdown and learning about styles within a historical context.
Really cool, you could do this in music, art anything
Holy mother of Manfred!! I thought I was never gonna see starcraft again
Peter Lervik I like your Warhammer reference
mightguy99 thanks...
That's a reference to Day9's plush bunny, mate. Not Warhammer.
It's so wonderful to have a fully informed commentary from someone who bothered to pre-watch the game so you are 100% prepared to cover all the key moments. Fantastic!
Also 10/10 Awesome cat moment. Love it!
Has a cat on his neck.
Still dropping the knowledge bombs.
Never change Day9, never change.

27:05 every time I have a shit day i'm just gonna loop Day9 saying "You're doing great! YOU'RE DOING GREAT!" in my head. ily 9
Love that you said we would never ever play on Plasma and it's currently on the ladder ^^; made me giggle a bit
Who else has been here since the first Newbie tuesday? Im still fucking garbage but i love this man.
LOL! Same...

Starcraft is alive and well and Day9 is saddled up. Right on!
I first came across Day9 on the famous Savior vs Bisu finals, and was amazed at the level of insight he was able to give, how accurately he was able to get a reading on the deeper strategy of the players in the game unfolding. Day9 is so worth to watch, thanks for present this video in such a phenomenal way.
This is the content I need for quarantine. Through the years, you've remained awesome Day9. Thanks for everything.

he did say on the intro video that he expects the viewer to know the basic interactions of the games
Never really cared all that much about Starcraft but I just love hearing Day9 talking about it. His enthusiasm really is infectious!
Hey, it's nice to see English analyses of BW. Subscribed.
Also, ASL 4 is on right now. Hype.
This man’s word is love & he breathes inspiration.
Day9, I love this! I hope to see more soon. Good to see you back on starcraft

Starcraft: Broodwar. The Orginal "Its over Anakin, I have the highground"
Is it Christmas? It feels like Christmas. Holy shit! Welcome back Day9, you glorious sexy beast.

What an interesting video. It's really caused me to appreciate Brood War. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series.
Here I am watching this series in December 2021 because of Artosis' ladder streams
I miss hearing you talk about SC
Thanks for this commentary, i really enjoy this series.
I just watch Game 1 and Game 2 , currently at 41 min . OMg so nice content ~.~ Teach me many things . I can use the knowledge in other games too ~.~

If you want some pointers in-game I can try. I'm not very good either, but if you're also getting crushed every game maybe you'd benefit.
I am also bad. It's okay. We'll get less bad the more we practice.

The year is 2020, the future sucks.
The year is 2023 and things are slightly better
So keen for this series even though im 5 years late haha

game 4 was hilarious. he's so infectious

Excellent video!
1:34:08 every time I get to this part I just die laughing at Sean's reaction to the probe mining the gas
Funday monday better be a thing again! D:
Waiting for the monobattles ("Corsairs!") episode xD
What about newbie tuesday?

Don't think I've got time to get into this game but holy shit does do you make it look fun.
Greatest tutorial to anything ♥️

Can he come down around this way?

I'm just preparing for single player, but this is really interesting so far.

Probes and archons are considered floating units... so the mines don't get triggered
