Love your video! We wished we watch this before went to Japan last year. We had no idea how to do a kimono rental haha, anyway we just picked one randomly on a street in Osaka. Agreed, best to come as early as possible to avoid the queue and the options of the kimono are still a lot.

You can look into jūnihitoe that was worn by noble women back in Japan's olden days; but I'm not sure if they rent something similar like that nowadays. There's also a type of kimono called hikizuri worn also by wealthy women in olden Japan - nowadays, mostly geisha and maiko wear this. The closest anyone can get to wearing something luxurious is a furisode (for unmarried women) and tomesode (for married women). There is also a formal type of kimono for men. Hope this helps :D
