    I went to Japan about 6 years ago. I was so nervous about trying to wear kimono or haori; I was afraid I'd offend Japanese people by wearing their traditional clothing as a foreigner. I did buy a haori during the trip because I thought it was so beautiful, and the shopkeeper seemed enthusiastic about me wearing it. Still, I didn't wear it while in Japan, and only wore it a few times when I came back home. Since then, I've bought more haori and a couple kimono, and I haven't yet worn the kimono out in full kitsuke, but I do wear the haori increasingly often with my western clothes. They're too pretty to leave in the closet, and now I can see that Japanese people like that other people want to display this beautiful aspect of their culture. When I wear it I feel like I am showing off a piece of this culture I admire so much, so that maybe other people will get interested in it and help the Japanese kimono market to grow again, since I've learned they're not worn as often by the newer generations. It would be so sad to see such gorgeous cultural clothing go completely out of use, so I feel like even though I'm not Japanese, maybe this can help make sure it survives. I was captivated by kimono ever since I was a kid, and that trip to Japan was a dream come true. I hope I can save up enough money again soon to go back there, and go kimono thrift shopping this time, now that I know much more about kimono and kitsuke, and where to find them at prices I can afford in Tokyo. This time, I'll be bold and wear them wherever I go on Japan, I think. This time around I would love to visit Kawagoe and also some hot spring towns, to be around the old buildings and do traditional activities.

      That's great comment. Thank you. I felt like I got a nice letter. Do not worry about how we Japanese think of you wearing Kimono. We feel happy to see non Japanese are interested in Kimono. I hope you will come back here soon to enjoy Japanese culture!!

    Aloha from Hawaii! I love your channel and your Kimono video (vintage / recycled Kimono) videos were so helpful. My father was born in Yokohama and moved to Hawaii when he was little. He returned for the first time in 50 years last month. I am returning to Japan to buy souvenir Kimono's for my family / Ohana and your insight was so helpful. I also love your Kimono club. If I am in Japan when you ladies dress up, I would love to join you. Mahalo.

    Hi Suzy, I love your videos, your smile and relaxed style. Do those stores sell 2 piece kimono which are washable and easier to wear? I found an online only store which will deliver to Australia, but I would like to buy and wear in Japan when we visit. We also want to get washable Yakuta and Hanhaba Obi, denim Samue and Haori. Yes, lots of clothes shopping. Can't wait. I've subscribed and I am watching all of your videos. They are great! 🎉❤

    • @SuzysDiscoverJapan
      @SuzysDiscoverJapan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you very much for your kind reaction! Actually 2 piece kimono is not very common. You may find one at that recycle store, but I am not sure those are wool or silk. Cotton Yukata should be much easier to maintain and to wear, too. I highly recommend you denim Samui because it's easy to wash and wear. I hope you will have enjoyable time!

    Hi Suzy! Just discovered the channel and thank you for making the video! Do any of these stores have online stores? Kimonos are very hard to find in the US, nearly impossible to find any in good condition. Do you have any suggestions for online options for kimonos ?

    • @SuzysDiscoverJapan
      @SuzysDiscoverJapan  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for your comment. These stores don’t have any online stores. I checked some online stores in the U.S. but not much variety and quality….
      Kimono is traditionally tailor-made, so the sizes, including length, width, and sleeve length, all vary. Even for those of us living in Japan, finding a second-hand kimono that fits perfectly often requires visiting multiple stores or keeping an eye on online shops in Japan over an extended period.(Buying online is kind of difficult unless you get used to it.)

    • @SuzysDiscoverJapan
      @SuzysDiscoverJapan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your comment!! November is very good season to travel. Good weather season!!
      The tall 150-157cm and around 45-55kg is the most common size and easy to find. If you ask the store staff to find your size, they will be happy to help you. It's too much work to check one by one yourself (the size tag is too small usually). 👍

    • @SuzysDiscoverJapan
      @SuzysDiscoverJapan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember if it's clearly signed. You can ask the staff (they understand that English).
      The last store Tatsumi is actually separated in three stores. The middle one which is very small entrance is for men's Kimono. The difference between men's Kimono and female's one is just Size and design.

      Thank you for asking. The size is based on length and length of arms. If you are taller than 175cm, it might be difficult to find your size in second hand shop. In that case, I recommend you to buy Samui or Haori. Consider Japanese size is one size smaller than the American size. I saw the Samui shop sold big size, too. Good luck!
