Didn't you know? Geoff has mastered the art of breathing through his ears? (That's how it seems anyway)
Hey mate, just to toss it here just in case you don't know, which you probably do. Geoff's half smile at low notes lets more air come out, making the notes sound breathier and thicker. Again, you probably know this, but just in case you or someone else doesn't. Great reaction, cheers
Valhalla Calling was inspired by Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Eivor. Some fun information for you: Geoff held that first B0 subharmonic about 15 seconds beneath the verse (he holds it about 12 seconds later on under the rap), as well as singing several A1, F#1, and E1 Subs and chest notes. And Eli is throwing incredible D5s and B5s around as if they were nothing! Layne's vocal percussion, including the "breathing" and the creaky door opening are totally on point. The rap lyrics were added, written by Alfredo Austin. You can always find the credits for their videos (and Geoff's) in the descriptions. This was not shot on green screen. It was shot in a volume studio (like the one used for The Mandalorian) with a 155 foot wide, 26 foot tall LED screen, using Eli's Unreal Engine animated set designs. This allows the "set" to track with the camera's movement, making it seem as if the guys are actually on an elaborate film set. The air conditioning at the studio wasn't working, so they were very sweaty Vikings LOL Rick Underwood and Renette Feren did an amazing job recreating the My Mother Told Me makeups for the characters, with some added touches. The runes on Cesar's face and Geoff's arm say VoicePlay. The rune on Eli's forearm and J's face (as it was in My Mother Told Me) is the Norse word rune for music, tónlist. The way it is displayed on J's face is reminiscent of the Assassin's Creed: Valhalla character Sigurd Styrbjornson. Geoff had tónlist on his upper arm for MMTM. Several MMTM costume pieces were repurposed for this shoot. One example: Cesar is wearing the robe José used. Now get ready for their cover of In the Air Tonight (Coming Friday June 16th)

Vikings used to chant insults - the rap fits right in! Geoff's dark side looks in this is a treat. You're right about meeting them in an alley, but would you run or beg to go on the adventure?
They out do themselves every time! I cannot stop watching this, it is amazing!! Geoff hits 3 B0's! Eli has become the Asgardian god of rock, Layne is a beatboxing god, Cesar has become a Berserker, and J None has shown us that rap indeed belongs in acapella! And Miracle of Sound gave this 10 out of 10 raised ale horns!! Great reaction! This from the Assasins Creed Valhalla video game, but that rap is all J None!!
Guessing you're not into Viking stuff or you'd know. Valhalla is the equivalent of heaven, the place where vikings believed they went if they died vlaliently in battle. You'll hear Odin mentioned, once of the gods of Norse mythology. This can be seen as a follow up to their My Mother Told Me. Nice to see you again. You've been missed. B0 was first heard in Halo. Not sure offhand where else before this. Yes that side smile is new in this one. He looks totally different. :) We were all suprised to see Cesar singing throutgh gritted teeth., showing a fierce side we never suspected from sassy Cesar. :) They added the rap to give it a bit of extra oomph. He did it once before, in Superstition.. It isn't green screen but I'll let someone who knows more about it explain. And if you want dedication, you should know that the AC had broken down in the studio they were in. It's wonder the make up wan't running off their faces.

The other Voiceplay video in which Geoff hits a B0 is "Halo theme". dunno whether there are more or not. 🙂
No green screen here. Eli made all the backgrounds in Unreal Engine and they recorded everything in a VR Studio in front of full-wall-size LED screens where the Unreal Engine backgrounds were "projected". Even the heavy wooden door J None opens to join the others doesn't exist. the sound of the opening door was, well... Layne 😁
The rap section was written especially for this song by the same guy who wrote the other rap section in "Superstition", and, well. It worked. 🙂
Geoff hit B0 for THREE times in this video. I read he said that it took him a very long recording session and his throat hurt for quite a while after that. 🙄
After this one they released "7 Nation Army", third episode of a post-apocalyptic series (the other two being, in chronological order, "Warriors" and "Dream on").
And they'll release their new one tomorrow, as far as I understand. 🙂

Really nice to see you back again. I'm hoping you have time for a few more reactions. VoicePlay had another new song come out "Seven Nation Army". I really did not think they could equal "Valhalla Calling" but it's amazing. And I understand a new one comes out tomorrow. I'm not a patreon, so I've not yet heard it, but I've heard it is really great, too. Seems as if they just keep topping themselves! And if you have time - Geoff has recently put out a great version of "I See Fire" from The Hobbit. It is very moving. I tear up every time I watch it.
And since you often speak about the video production end of things, you might be interested to know that these are not 'sets' in the normal sense. The backgrounds were done by Eli in Unreal Engine and displayed on a giant LED screen, not green screened. Good thing, too, that they did not need to contend with actual flames (just virtual) since the studio's air conditioning was broken and it was bad enough that they were in furs and leather. I can't imagine how much more difficult it would have been with real fire in that Mead Hall scene.
If you haven't heard them do Seven Nation Army, please do. I'd love to hear your opinion.
To see them looking like someone you would NOT want to meet in a dark ally check out 7 Nation Army. Eli looks positively menacing. Geoff hit his first B0 in Halo. Some have measured him down to an A0 in Enemy on a slide down into the abyss. Great reaction, very glad to see you again!
I agree with Debra, that cover is amazing... as is all of Voiceplay's mv recently. You won't be disappointed with Geoff's cover of I see fire... I haven't watched the hobbit either, so didn't know the song. Loving it now though. Great reaction. X 🇬🇧

These are essentially the same characters and costumes from My Mother Told Me. They just swapped Jose to get Cesar -- notice he's wearing the same cloak Jose wore. Layne wears the same tunic with rings in both. Geoff borrowed that tunic for Misty Mountains Cold and his newest with the same dwarves, I See Fire. It has almost 500k views in its first week. It's gorgeous!
The runes on Cesar's face, Geoff's forearm, and probably other places I'm forgetting, spell out VoicePlay. I think the "old and boring" guys are being influenced by Cesar's effervescent joie de vivre. Geoff doesn't usually flirt with the camera (leaves that for Cesar) but here he knows exactly what he does to us with those basso profundo notes.
They suffered for their art with this one -- wearing fur and leather on a hot day, and the a/c in the studio with the giant LED screens didn't work. They filmed this on a Thursday, just a couple days before J's wedding reception.
Vikings again same ones from "My Mother Told Me". Cesar is wearing Joses' cloke. I have heard that he held that B0 for 15 seconds. Cesar is the only one in the group who was a high school theatre geek.

I like that they have J staring out across the water at the beginning. He’s been away (in the US Navy) and now he’s come back. The rap was added and some hints to his being in the military (ops, etc). I love the background “THIS IS WAR” when J’s rap changes rhythm.
Previously they did a cover of My Mother Told Me (also associated with the video game Assassin’s Creed) J was still a permanent member of the group. The makeup and a lot of the costuming is from MMTM. Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay.

Layne (beatboxer ) did the arrangement and Eli (bald rock god) the amazing backgrounds. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) LED screens.
Valhalla is where warrior wait until Ragnarok is suppose to happen. It is is too do with Norse Mythology like with the Gods like Odin, Thor and Loki to name a few. Also another Viking song they did was My Mother Told Me which was in the TV series Vikings. They also did Hoist The Colors which was in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
