Check out my first ever VoicePlay reaction if you haven't seen it yet! th-cam.com/video/gTa5fFcpS8M/w-d-xo.html ====== note edit: J.None was of course in my second reaction too, just not as a featured artist
It's confirmed, Geoff is a freaking frost giant. Your stank-face is pretty much reactor industry standard when listening to him. Dude swears he's "not a real bass" while basically being a human warhorn and blowing out people's sound systems. Peter Barber, a professional bass opera signer and vocal analyst, set him straight during an interview, lol. I know you probably don't have a ton of free time, but you might want to watch their interview if you get the chance. It's rich with information about Geoff and VP as a group. I've been going through your videos older to newer and I have to reiterate that you are a PHENOMINAL music analyst! Your ear for hearing detail and nuance in a first listen astounds me! And the extra effort you put into chordal breakdowns and music transcribing is above and beyond! While you're listening, your face is so expressive and I can see your passion for the music but I can also see you actively breaking down the intricacies of the music within your head. Thank you for everything you put into your content. We music nerds greatly appreciate it, and as I've read in the comments, so do non-musical people who want to understand the music they love better. You somehow manage to be technical while still making everything accessible to those who aren't as versed in music. Last thought, your little head slap intro and the fact that you use egg emojis makes me giggle every time and I enjoy the understated but cheeky humor you include in your videos.
Impressive analysis of Voiceplay's Valhalla Calling. I really appreciate your effort and dedication. I hope you will get the chance to analyze "Hall of the Mountain King" by Voiceplay. Its an entire instrumental song done acapella and full of theatrics. Thanks Sir Hairless. Well done!!
Eli has talked about being concerned that the distortions in the belts damaging his vocal cords. He was scoped and got the all clear. It is fabulous to hear him being able to bring that grit in when required and have a gentle tone too. He has a great solo in The Little Mermaid medley. Fabulous in In the Hall of the Mountain King too.
Yes! I love "Kiss the Girl" in the Mermaid medley. As much as I admire his ability to sing incredibly high (without, I might add, sounding at all like a girl) I think I like his smooth baritone the best.
Great arrangement, I would like to watch your reaction/analysis to their arrangement of "in the hall of the mountain king" by Edvard Grieg, ft. Elizabeth Garozzo, may be you could that one add to your list
The word-painting Geoff sets up with the B0 before J.None says the word "ship" is brilliant. It sets the stage in our brains to visualize a ship and Viking horn droning through the fog.
I think their Disney Little Mermaid shows their acting more, and of coarse Oggie Boogie song from Nightmare Before Christmas. Of coarse there is much more like Wicked, or perhaps Boy Bands in 5 minutes or Queen in 5 minutes. and more so much more. Phantom of the Opera has Tony and Earl in it. BTW Anyone and everyone who sings with them, is a great vocalist and extremely talented as well.
I think it was in Geoff's interview with Peter Barber (someone correct me if I'm wrong) when they talked about Eli's voice and having him lean more into that rock tenor. Geoff said Eli figured he should get his throat checked to make sure he was singing in a healthy way and he got a clean bill of health.
I like hearing that Eli is looking after his voice like that. I hear him and, as a fellow vocalist, I think "yikes! Hope he's doing okay with his vocal cords." 😅
So, I know that the VoicePlay fans have often gotten a little miffed when reactors have missed some 'added bits' on the end. A general rule of thumb is that once you see a list of patron names, there probably isn't going to be anything 'extra' to watch at the end of the video, so you can end it at that point. But, on the other hand, you are often hearing the 'karaoke' track playing over these credits, and those almost always astound me since you can hear so much more clearly what's going on in the background that you may miss when focused on the 'lead' vocal. And both Layne and Geoff do such wonderful arrangements, I love that we get to hear these.
WOW, Sir, your analyses are so meticulous that you even noticed the modern boot the guys were wearing!😂I agree that is really satisfying to listen to Geoff hitting those ultra-filthy, very low notes with perfection… When he sang “The echoes of eternity” I also felt the desire of Viking up a bit and join them with the Valhalla Calling😅The Voiceplay guys have a cool vibe and your reaction to them was super fun and full of interesting information that you discussed/taught us, thank you!✌
HOLY CARP, SH!! The way you can disect and explain these harmonies is heroic! So enjoyable to watch you break it down. And yes, I think it's time to switch gears and listen to a less-intense, yet still creative song/act by VP: We Don't Talk About Bruno. 👏😃
Really enjoyed your analysis. I cannot wait for you to do Hall of the Mountain King- pure vocals and lots of theatrical silliness. In other words, what VP does better than others. Another delight is The Lion Sleeps Tonight. These both make me laugh every time I watch them.
I adore VoicePlay. Your analysis is always so interesting, you’re my favorite reactor, so intelligent and thorough. I wish you’d check out their version of “Seven Nation Army” - another marvel from the Theater Kids. 😊
Agree. I didn't think I'd like it because I'd gotten fond of the visits from "future me," but this format works very well because the analysis is so well organized.
Not for me. I doubt I'm the only one who generally watches the VP at least once, usually more than once, before starting to watch any reactors. So I really don't need to hear the whole thing straight through. Even though Sir Hairless is very well organized, it's easier for me to follow his comments when they come right after the part of the video he's addressing.
To experience more of #VoicePlay theatrical side as well as their sense of humor, check out Little Mermaid Medley or We Don't Talk About Bruno. The first is before J.None was recruited by the Navy and features long time friend and frequent collaborator Rachel Potter (who played Ariel for five years at Disney World). The second has Cesar and features Ashley Diane. VP doesn't tour anymore but they were asked to perform WDTAB live at a Disney corporate event.
✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ .. Holy Shitake mushrooms .... Holy Shipwreck .... Holy Shiites .. dang Sir Hairlees 🥺🥺🥺 .. how in the hell did you make it through without stopping ???? .. That was very, very cherry 🍒!!! Ely raises the roof on this .. and Geoff shakes the heels of my shoes , and I love it. I am very glad that you gave this one a run. Thanks for getting out of your comfort zone ... and getting filthy !! Fabulous reaction and description ... this will be replayed plenty in the days ahead for me.. TY .. ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️
The karaoke track over the credits is a fun touch when they do it. You can get the whole karaoke track as a patron, and it’s so fun to hear and really appreciate what’s going on in the background.
What a great reaction/analysis! Please go on investigating that VP rabbit hole! Have a go at the "Hall of the mountain king" - please! Love your preparation (watching the original first) and those little inserts to explain what you are talking about. Very well done... 🎉❤😊
I have zero knowledge of music, so I always learn something really good from you. The more I watch reactors who have a musical background, the more I have come to appreciate not just how it sounds overall but all the small pieces that make up the whole. Since I learned something from you, I thought I would share some background on the production. I like that we have J staring out across the water at the beginning. He was recruited but the US Navy but he’s come back (at least for this). The rap was added and some hints to his being in the military (ops, etc). One of my favorite parts is while he’s rapping, in the background you can hear the guys singing “This is WAR”. It always gives me chills. Other commenters with Scandinavian roots have pointed out that the rap is not so much of a reach as flyting became a part of Nordic cultures by the 19th century. It was described as an extremely spirited contest of verbal assaults. Eli created the amazing backgrounds using Unreal Engine which is used in filmmaking and video games to provide digital backgrounds. The only real pieces in that set are the tables and benches. Even the door that J walks through was pure CGI. He was standing in front of a screen and the background “opened” for him. Layne was responsible for the creaking door sound. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (full wall!) LED screens. These guys were really warriors that day. They filmed in Florida on a hot day and the AC was broken. 🥵 The music in the outro is the karaoke track. The percussion and background vocals and it could be a piece on its own because it’s also gorgeous.
Your analysis is great, I heard things in the background singers that I never noticed before. Miracle of Sound watched/listened to this as well. Voiceplay pinned his comment. @miracleofsound 11 months ago (edited) Well done, lads. Definitely one of the more creative covers I've heard! I rate it ten raised alehorns out of ten 🤘 Have we failed to mention that Geoff started a solo channel during the pandemic, when Voiceplay had to stop touring? Well, he did. I know it's not Christmas but try his arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Arranged, filmed, edited, produced by him.
Geoff arranges, records, produces and edits all of his videos I believe. He has had very little help with them, maybe just lighting lol I’ve always been impressed that he arranges and produces the backing track music himself along with all of the harmonies. He puts so much work into them, I don’t know how he has time to do both his solo channel and VoicePlay. Maybe he doesn’t sleep 😂
Their arrangement of a "Wicked" medley is both acoustically appealing and timely (with the movie coming out later this year). I would absolutely recommend it.
Agree, absolute masterpiece. Warning though - it’s long and has a TON of details, so you may have to do a less ambitious analysis or the video would be hours long… 😅
Yes, this one... oh they had a lot of fun with this one. This was last year, as those of us supporting them on Patreon finally reached a critical mass, and have allowed them much more free time and energy to work into the songs. Looking forward to you watching Hellfire and Mountain King.
Absolutely LOVE your breakdown - I learnt so much! VP is amazing - hoping there is more of this in the future. Their genre range is so huge - you will find they do completely different techniques depending on what the song... requires? I was just wondering (for example) - what you would make of their Disney songs or a very emotional, no percussion song like "I can't make you love me" (Geoff arrangement). This one is a Layne arrangement, but my favourite Layne arrangement is "In the Air tonight" (Phil Collins). Their major theatrical stuff is definitely their Disney and Halloween songs. I am so looking forward to more! Thank you.🌹🕊
Okay, I might be repeating someone, so I apologize if I do. I just skimmed your comments and didn't see this, so I figured I'd add it. This is kind of seen as a sequel to their video My Mother Told Me. It is also a Viking song, and the guys play the same characters there as they do in this one. The difference being that back then JNone was a full time member of the group and the guest was Jose Rosario, Jr. In Valhalla here, Cesar wears the same cloak Jose wore in MMTM. In that video, Eli had started playing around with the gaming software Unreal Engine. He created the environments the guys are in for that video. They filmed in front of a green screen and were superimposed over. After the fact, Eli had mentioned that he wished you could see more of the environments beyond just the front facing part of the scene we see in the final cut, and if he had the chance to do it again, he would look into that. Enter Valhalla Calling. Eli went back to Unreal Engine and created the backgrounds you see in the video. The guys then went to Vu Studios in Orlando where they have full LED walls and a special camera to capture the images. The only real objects you see in this video are the guys, the tables, and few handheld props. Eli really did step it up. As for the shoes, I can only speak as someone who does cosplay, but shoes can be hella expensive, especially if you're trying to go for period accurate. They're either obviously cheap looking or authentic and expensive. Shoes may have just not been in their budget, with renting out that space and all. Though the AC had gone out in the building that day. They filmed this entire video in leather and furs with no AC. So, if you see sweat on their faces, trust that it's the real deal. I do see the positives of both ways of analysing; listening all the way through first and pausing through first watch. I think whichever way you prefer is great. I truly enjoy your analyses any way you present them. I have listened to this so many times, and you still pointed out things I had not heard before. Plus, I just love your chordal breakdowns. I know music, but my aural skills are trash. 🤣
A VERY complete reaction. I love your face in reaction to Geoff. Did you hear the door creaking when JNone stands in the doorway? That sound was Lane! EPIC!. Thanks for the excellent reaction. I love when you love a song.
I remember the first time I heard this... much more aggressive than I ever heard them before, what a ride! FYI, a lot of the outro music is the karaoke tracks which are on their Patreon page
Another theatrical one which is a favourite of mine is from the game Skyrim, The Dragonborn Comes, which includes singing in an invented language from the game. And yes, they never block a video. They are independent of any recording company, doing everything themseslves. Both Geoff and Layne (and occasionally Eli) are brilliant arrangers. Yes they do use some effects. Eli is an ex rock tenor. Geoff would amile at the suggestion of throat singing, What he emplys is subharmonics. Cesar (said as in Julius) does the high note in Dream On, and even some whistle notes in The Lion Sleeps Tonight. The guys in VP are multi talented guys, Eli is charge of lighting and backgrounds.. They do sometimes have somethihng in the outro, but you're more likely to see that on Geoff's solo videos. He's very keen to give thanks to his supporters. There is often a lot of fun in their credits. Very interesting reaction. Yes, the shoes, Something I wondered about too. :)
The first two songs from VoicePlay that you've reacted to were arranged by Geoff; this one was arranged by Layne. I look forward to you analyzing more VoicePlay, to see if you can figure out each man's individual arranging signatures.
Cesar has upped his top notes in The Lion Sleeps Tonight to C6 and D6. J None also has some really high notes in The Lion Sleeps Tonight which is interesting since the US Navy just promoted him to bass in there premiere chorus. He has written an original song, Am I Here, and sings the solo that it is. It's worth watching. By the way, I definitely enjoy your reaction and analysis.
Your analysis is so interesting and informative. Love acappella and VoicePlay in particular. You clearly appreciate their theatrical side so may I recommend their cover of "Hoist the Colours"?
Thank you, best sir! I really like your format of reaction, explaining the magic of VoicePlay’s music. I think you would appreciate to do some of Geoff’s solo works too. That man’s voice has an extraordinary range of about five (!) octaves. My personal favorites are Sixteen Tons (Tennessee Earnie Ford) and Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers) but he has a LOT of good covers.
Yes, I like seeing the chords on the screen keyboard. Another reactor, Charismatic Voice, talks a lot about how they produce various sounds with their voices, and makes a good pairing with Sir Hairless.
02:35 Yep, there's the reaction I was hoping for! Geoff's first (of 3!) B0s just keeps going, and going, and going...a couple of minor modulations, but he holds that note for about 15 seconds - the "not a bass" is also "not a human"! Layne's insane beatboxing, Eli showing that he IS a rock tenor, and Cesar not realizing that he isn't REALLY a berserker! And no one is prepared for J. None's rap! The outro music is part of the karaoke track that VoicePlay gives to their Patrons (even lower levels, like me). They've started including that as the outro music for many of their videos. If you react to Sleeping In the Cold Below (another VP theatrical release), they accidentally included Layne's beatboxing track instead of the karaoke track they intended to - you get a really good idea of just how much like a drum kit he sounds (and also how much production is done on his voice to make it sound even more like a drum kit).
I love that they release the karaoke and sheet music, it's very cool of them, but like...what mere mortal human can sing along you know? 🤣 Not me for sure!
I bet they feel sooooo happy seeing you analysing deeply into their arrangement. You can tell they really put many efforts and tiny details in every second of their arrangement. Instead of EQTT Extremely Quick Textural Thickening why don’t we call it… Quick Arpeggio😂😂
Dear Sir Hairless, I love your reactions and analysis of VOICEPLAY'S music and I have a few more that you should check out. Carry on Wayward Son, Dream On, In the Air Tonight, and You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch are some of my favorites. You are wonderful and I hope you check these out!!! 😊😊😊
Okay, another Voiceplay video. They are fantastic and deserve a fantastic review like you do. Let's enjoy it. Thanks again, you always make us enjoy and learn with your videos.
Yep! Definitely overwhelming! I love how you talk about the “A Cappella World”. I’m in awe of all these wonderful singers, arrangers, beatboxers. They are so talented and stylish. They can rise to any musical challenge. 🤗
Really loved your reaction/analysis. I am not a musician and thus usually only listen to music for the way it makes me feel...no deep analysis from me. Your analysis, brief though it was, was insightful and informative whilst being entertaining. Truly terrific. Thank you so much for this.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yours are among the few reactions I watch more than once. Your obvious love of the music, your technical expertise, and personality combine to make your reactions riveting. Thank you😊
This was a FANTASTIC analysis!! Ive watched many who go in depth but i love how you show it in keyboard form and give some additional music theory. Im gonna watch this breakdown of yours several more times!
It has been a very long time since I studied music formally, but I love learning new things from watching excellent professional musicians react to my favorite groups. This was SO good! Loved your explanation of the chord progressions, and how by not including the third they keep the key (at least momentarily) undefined as to major or minor.
Great! 😊 You've actually heard and seen J. None in all your VoicePlay reactions, only when they did "Can't Help Falling in Love" he was still a member of the group 😊. I'm looking forward to more VoicePlay reactions from you!
I greatly enjoyed this discussion. VoicePlay does pays homage to original music yet manages to put their own spin on it and make it something to listen to on repeat. Plus the video is so detailed tat it, too rewards rewatching.
Ah, my favorite VP song! I listen to it every other night on repeat for several hours. Geoff's B0s are incredible. I love Berserker Cesar in this, before he'd usually used a softer, sweeter voice. This is the first video I think he really got gritty with. What's funny about this video is, because J. None is by himself in the beginning, many of us thought he was in a seperate place than the group. Voiceplay has done that several times, especially because of Covid (and Home Free did an insane number of songs where they're all separated but look like they're together during Covid) a good example being Voiceplay's cover of "Enemy" by Imagine Dragons. In it, they're singing "with" a K-pop star named Alexxa, and it LOOKS like she's right onscreen with them, but she was actually in Japan, and green screened in. So a lot of us thought something like "Oh, J. None got the time to do this, but must have been stuck wherever the Navy had him stationed." And then SURPRISE! He walks into the hall, with a squeaky door effect done by Layne, and joins the group! They're tricky little guys, our Voiceplay!
Very well done Sir! I'm impressed with the depth of your reactions. Do check out some of Geoff's solo efforts. "Solo" is perhaps a misnomer as there are usually 4 or 5 of him. Start with "Over the Misty Mountains" - I think it's superb.
I love your analysis of this dynamic song. You draw my attention to so much that I miss when I listen to any song you analyze and increase my enjoyment of it. Like you I was delighted by the bit played over their patreon subscribers. True, it wouldn’t be appropriate in the song as they filmed it but I found it somewhat soothing after the intensity of the recorded version. Thank you for this interesting analysis of a unique song.
Love your analysis. All the other reactors just talk about their singing but you explain the music and I learn so much from it. Keep up the great reactions. My favorite “theatrical” VoicePlay video is Oogie Boogie’s Song. You should check it out.
My favorite VP theatrical video is "Friends on the Other Side." That one's practically a musical. If you want to listen to one of Geoff's solo pieces, I suggest you start with Blackbird, which really showcases his range.
Thank you! I believe the music underneath is what really makes the vocals feel how they do, so it's definitely worth talking about 🎶 Oogie Boogie is on my list for the future!
I really love the juxtiposition of Geoff singing "the echo's of eternity' with J bringing the modern warrior vibe with rap piece brought it all in a big circle.
VP has started using their karaoke tracks as the outro music, they release these tracks to their patrions shortly after the full versions. I love that, though I could never keep up with them being what my choir director once called a "Barelytone." I can only seem to carry a tune with a strong singer on either side of me singing the same part. though I had a great range and could sing bass 2 to tenor 2 but if not surrounded I wold sing the whatever note in the harmony i heard most or attracted my ear in the chord. and would throw off other singers. (enough choir confessions). VP (and PTX for that matter) always creates such joy for me, I adore harmony. And they build such interesting harmonic structure. The Bass Gang brings harmonic structure that hits my ears so nicely as well. Check them out sometime.
I believe the bit you hear during the credits or patron scroll at the end is the karaoke version of the song that they offer on their patreon page to their patrons. So awesome. Thanks for an interesting and appreciative breakdown and analysis!❤
J has actually been in both your Voiceplay reactions. The only difference he was featured in Nothing else matters (and this) but in CHFIL he was just a regular fully fledged member. Other than a couple of very early j none features (scars to your beautiful/low, something just like this, what’s this? and ACA top 10 Disney heroes) any song “Featuring J None” is since he joined the navy and is just him back playing with old friends when he’s on leave. Loving your in depth analysis, a lot of it goes right over my head as i am majorly musically challenged 😂 but it’s interesting nonetheless. Hope you continue on with Voiceplay
I was expecting this one. Did not disappoint. Just a fantastic reaction and another great analysis!!! Really appreciate your work. This is, by far, one of the best reaction channels in YT. Much respect you, sir.
I love love love the way you break the music theory down to where I can understand it. 😊 That thing you mentioned a few times where they scatter a chord throughout the group like the opening of Nothing Else Matters? There’s a super cool example on the cover of Creep. It’s in the background on the word “soul” at one point. They break it into like so oh oh oh ul” and so help me it’s so rapid fire I can’t even tell you how many sections it has or the order of who sings. Like, it’s at least as quick as the triplet part of the rap here.
That part that you’re describing in Creep is my favorite part of the video (and I love that video). But there’s something so beautiful about the way Eli arranged it.
J. none was also in your 2nd reaction to them but was a member then instead of a feature so he wasn’t specifically mentioned. They do tend to pick some niche songs a lot that I never heard of like this one, Hoist the Colours, some video game songs.. but I always love what they do even if I wasn’t familiar with the song. Layne does make some crazy sounds! Like sleigh bells for example, seriously. And electronic or synth type of sounds. I used to think , no way… but then I watched a beatboxer called Show-Go and realized anything is possible.
Oops, editing error on my part there! I'll update my pinned comment to reflect thisthanks! I'm excited to explore their other songs, especially the ones whose originals I don't know!
I can’t wait to see what is up next! Oh!! You mentioned the shoes and I thought it was funny you noticed that. I honestly don’t know what happened there but my guesses are 1. They were fresh out of Viking style shoes at the store 2. They figured no one would pay attention to their shoes 😂
What a wonderful analysis and reaction - thank you! I heard things I hadn’t heard because of you, despite listening loads of time. And how you break it down is fascinating. Music theory hello.
@@bethjeans3780 lol!! Yeah, they probably did. I haven’t watched the behind the scenes for that one yet but I love how they call their “mistakes” totally “on brand” for VoicePlay and just roll with it. Like Layne forgetting his gloves in Sleeping in the Cold Below so they are magically appearing and disappearing in the video 😅
Once again a brilliant analysis!! Really enjoyed it!! Love your detailed breakdown of chords, and indeed Geoff's B0 are filthy... ha!! You also caught them slacking on boots choices 😂... I personally don't think watch it all the way through is necessary. If you feel overwhelmed you might miss some details that you want to point out. This is your channel and I think you can take full control of what you like to do, and I will always appreciate your knowledge and detailed analysis!!
This one is seen as a sequel to My Mother Told Me where it features Jose Rosario Jr and J None is the group member (no Cesar). There costumes are the same with minor changes and Cesar is wearing Jose's hooded cloak. Miracle of Sound loved this version, rating it 10 out of 10 raised ale horns. Miracle of Sound is the writer and the original performer of this this song. He has a 2nd release with Peyton Parrish and a 3rd with Peyton and Eric Hollaway (my goddess, talk about deep voices!). Peyton Parrish has his own solo video. VoicePlay's is the only one with the rap bit. I have all five versions on my playlist. To get a better idea of VoicePlay as the theater kids of a cappella check out Oogie Boogie's Song, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, This is Halloween, What's This?, and Geoff's solo Jack's Lament, all numbers from the movie Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. They also have a wonderful rendition of The Phantom of the Opera feat. Rachel Potter.
To be totally honest, I only clicked on this because you analyzed it. 😅 Normally (a capella) groups are not my preferred type of music (except when there are a few basses - just because they sound too pretty and similar throughout every song. I tend to love the first half and get bored by the second half. 😅). But this was a pleasant surprise. Great song, sung by great voices and enough variety of different sounds and rhythms. ❤ Also Geoff is awesome! 🤩 Additionally your analysis was very interesting and enjoyable ("excuse me?!?“ 😂) and I‘ve learned something about archaic music. Glad you chose this. 😊❤ About the reaction first part: I personally prefer a few pauses (maybe just for general first impressions) but there are others that like to watch the whole thing uninterrupted. You did have some great facial expressions. 😂 And I’ll be back either way. ❤ How did you like this style of reaction? 😊
Thanks for choosing to watch! Hopefully this is a surprise musical discovery for you This style of reaction has its pros and cons, for sure! The flow of listening to the whole song at once is better, but it was more intense that I thought it would be I think my usual method of 1 or 2 pause-and-analysis sections helps to cool the brain down before continuing with the rest of the music 😅
Great reaction and analysis! One small point, if you don't want to miss any lyrics (such as J's rap section!), turn the captions on - all of their more recent ones they provided their own captions (bookended by a music note), as Geoff's wife Kathy has a hearing disorder (he has done a video on this) which stopped her singing, though she is heavily involved as VP's (and Geoff's) production manager, helping with costumes, etc. She has a cameo in their version of 'Golden Hour' and appears in Geoff's cover of 'Monster Mash'! 😊
I think you'll really like VoicePlay's version of "Bang!" by AJR. Not calm/serious like "Nothing Else Matters" nor loud/dramatic like "Valhalla Calling." "Bang!" shows you the fun and playful side of this group. Another plus: you'll be introduced to another unique voice. Deejay Young is the featured guest. Enjoy!
@@SirHairless Are you a Sherlock Holmes fan, too? No wonder your mind is so organized and orderly! No on has ever commented on my TH-cam Name before. I've been a Holmes fanatic since Junior High School (which was before you were born! I'm a 70 year old woman, BTW).
How fun was that!! Brilliant as always! Love VoicePlay, and this is one of my favorites. I dig it when they get all dressed up and go completely mental. Vikings, pirates, video game heroes, monsters and all sorts. Cesar and his sweet voice always gets into it, and Eli gives good crazy eyes 😂Check out their Halloween collection to see what I mean. Where to go from here?? Couple of my favorites are 7 Nation Army and Hall of the Mountain King. That last one the costumes and acting/character voices are super fun, and the arrangement is insane. And all the Disney medleys are impressive, they shine with a female guest singer. They also did In My Room by the Beach Boys, think you might have mentioned you like the group. Random, but I think I like it when you stop, same great content but even though I've heard these songs a billion times I sometimes still need a breather, it's just so much. PTX does that to me too, I can listen to it but watching straight through for some reason my brain almost stops processing or something. Great video, can't wait to see what's next!
In My Room has definitely caught my Beach Boys-loving eyes That one wasn't on my list yet! Haha don't worry, I also need the pauses I think My brain was going into overdrive towards the end of this one
A newbie to your channel, and for the first time ever, I got to see what I must look like while watching VP or just Geoff. I am a music junkie when it comes to the level of musicality displayed by these incredible musicians, but your analysis made everything even better. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your face, seeing the wonder and joy and viseral responses to stirring music. Thank you, and now as a subscriber, l won't miss any more of you..😊❤
Wow! Just wow! Your reaction was fantastic! I learned a lot about music theory watching. I appreciate your knowledge and explanations. Just for fun, I'd love to see you react to some of Geoff's solo stuff. His newest release, Unshaken, will blow your mind!
some fun facts about this song... 1. that's a B0 sub that lasts 15 seconds at the beginning with a slide 2. that's an F#5 from Eli at the end 3. the reason j none comes in later is because his flight got messed up so he had to record his first parts by himself 4. the power kept going out at the filming location 5. it was 90 degrees F and they were in those viking outfits all day 6. they wrote the rap vocals themselves 7. this isn't the first time the viking men have been featured they are also seen in My Mother Told me 8. Your analysis and reactions are priceless and so informative thank you!!!
The rap was written by Alfredo Austin, he is credited in VoicePlay’s video. He also wrote the rap in a different song but I won’t mention the name so no spoilers for Sir Hairless 😊
Check out my first ever VoicePlay reaction if you haven't seen it yet! th-cam.com/video/gTa5fFcpS8M/w-d-xo.html

note edit: J.None was of course in my second reaction too, just not as a featured artist
Something a lot of people don't comment on is that the "door creaking" and "closing" noises...are Layne.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it
I just love the “Filthy Geoff” face! 😂😮
Well done!!
Miracle of sound gave them 10 of 10 ale horns on VoicePlays page.
I also would love to hear your analysis of their ‘ In the hall of the Mountain King’.
@@Broomrider1492❤❤❤❤❤❤
Eli sings an F#5 in the final chord, and not for the first time. He is a beast!
Thanks for confirming!
This one is on my list for a future reaction 👌
The word-painting Geoff sets up with the B0 before J.None says the word "ship" is brilliant. It sets the stage in our brains to visualize a ship and Viking horn droning through the fog.
Yes, and people were already calling him "Foghorn Geoff" *before* this video came out.
@@jonadabtheunsightlyin this one he literally took on the role of the foghorn 😂
I think their Disney Little Mermaid shows their acting more, and of coarse Oggie Boogie song from Nightmare Before Christmas. Of coarse there is much more like Wicked, or perhaps Boy Bands in 5 minutes or Queen in 5 minutes. and more so much more. Phantom of the Opera has Tony and Earl in it. BTW Anyone and everyone who sings with them, is a great vocalist and extremely talented as well.
Also - We don’t talk about Bruno. 😊
Yes that is correct!
I love watching your eyes and facial expressions. It's obvious how much you notice and appreciate each little nuance.
Another suggestion would be Hellfire from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, VoicePlay cover.
That subharmonic bass stank face!
Amazing analysis, adore your work!
I love this format. Nice hear the whole video uninterrupted but then broken down.
Great reaction. Would love you to do VoicePlay’s In the Hall of the Mountain King. ❤
Two of my absolute favorites ❤

A lot of holy-ing going on here
Haha glad you enjoyed it🤙
The karaoke track over the credits is a fun touch when they do it.
The music in the outro is the karaoke track. The percussion and background vocals and it could be a piece on its own because it’s also gorgeous.
Thank you for sharing Very cool info!
Your analysis is great, I heard things in the background singers that I never noticed before.
Miracle of Sound watched/listened to this as well. Voiceplay pinned his comment.

Well done, lads. Definitely one of the more creative covers I've heard! I rate it ten raised alehorns out of ten 🤘
Have we failed to mention that Geoff started a solo channel during the pandemic, when Voiceplay had to stop touring? Well, he did. I know it's not Christmas but try his arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Arranged, filmed, edited, produced by him.
Geoff arranges, records, produces and edits all of his videos I believe. He has had very little help with them, maybe just lighting lol I’ve always been impressed that he arranges and produces the backing track music himself along with all of the harmonies. He puts so much work into them, I don’t know how he has time to do both his solo channel and VoicePlay. Maybe he doesn’t sleep 😂
@@thisismetoday7423Geoff's wife Kathy does some stuff too, cameras and maybe more.
Their arrangement of a "Wicked" medley is both acoustically appealing and timely (with the movie coming out later this year). I would absolutely recommend it.
Yes, love that one!!
This one is pure art
Agree, absolute masterpiece. Warning though - it’s long and has a TON of details, so you may have to do a less ambitious analysis or the video would be hours long… 😅
I would absolutely watch an hours long analysis of Voiceplay, especially by Sir Hairless, @@traal. 😁
Thank you.🌹🕊
@EtherealForever ...And their version of "In the hall of the Mountain King"! 🙂
@@DavideBaroni - yes indeed - I count that as a "Halloween" song 😉(another genius Layne arrangement!)
@@EtherealForeverI also love Hide and Seek Ding Dong! 😅
I really enjoy your breakdowns, and I honestly can't wait for more, especially when you hit Dream On, which really shows just how high Cesar can get.
A VERY complete reaction. I love your face in reaction to Geoff. Did you hear the door creaking when JNone stands in the doorway? That sound was Lane! EPIC!. Thanks for the excellent reaction. I love when you love a song.
A rather realistic door sound indeed Haha thanks!
Ooh ooh I'd love to see you react to The Dragonborn Comes!
Great vid! Your Geoff face is :chefkiss:
Can we have Oogie Boogie's Song?
The only face that is allowed in response to Geoff's filthy bass
Oogie Boogie is on my list for the future, at some point! I can't say when
So Happy you tackled this one! These guys have amazing talent (and filthiness!) Thanks for your time!!
Absolute filth Sir!! Ancestral Good filth! 👊 Surprising and unexpected! Super analysis - thank you SH! 🙏👌
Your analysis is so interesting and informative. Love acappella and VoicePlay in particular. You clearly appreciate their theatrical side so may I recommend their cover of "Hoist the Colours"?
Bass Face pops on almost immediately!😤
Thank you, best sir! I really like your format of reaction, explaining the magic of VoicePlay’s music. I think you would appreciate to do some of Geoff’s solo works too. That man’s voice has an extraordinary range of about five (!) octaves. My personal favorites are Sixteen Tons (Tennessee Earnie Ford) and Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers) but he has a LOT of good covers.
This was the best analysis I have heard of this great piece! Love it!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
Thank you! You're the first reactor that details the layering and the notes being used.
🫡
Sadly, my B0 and C#5 are imaginary so I didn't 🤣@@thisismetoday7423
I bet they feel sooooo happy seeing you analysing deeply into their arrangement. You can tell they really put many efforts and tiny details in every second of their arrangement.
Instead of EQTT Extremely Quick Textural Thickening why don’t we call it… Quick Arpeggio😂😂
Great rendition by Voiceplay. Geoff's voice is phenomenal. Thank you for a superb reaction.
You need to do their version of Greig's In the hall of the mountain king.
Okay, another Voiceplay video. They are fantastic and deserve a fantastic review like you do. Let's enjoy it. Thanks again, you always make us enjoy and learn with your videos.
Wow I love it! Very entertaining besides sounding great! Nice job picking this one to wait for analysis 👍
Thank you so much for this.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
The music under the Patron list is the karaoke version of the track (no lead, which ever part that may be at any given moment).
Another great reaction/analysis. This is definitely one of my favorite Voiceplay performance.
This was a great reaction! I am glad you enjoyed it and that you returned to VP. ❤
A sneaky easter egg, the bit at the end when they thank patreons is the karaoke version that patreons get.
Great! 😊 You've actually heard and seen J. None in all your VoicePlay reactions, only when they did "Can't Help Falling in Love" he was still a member of the group 😊. I'm looking forward to more VoicePlay reactions from you!
Thank you!
Yes oops this was an edit blunder on my side! I updated this in my pinned comment
Thanks for the info!
Thank you especially for the mini musical history info. I learn more from you than I ever learned minoring in music at college!
👨🎓🎶
Great reaction and analysis for a phenomenal Acapella Group.
Y r really smart Sir
I really love the juxtiposition of Geoff singing "the echo's of eternity' with J bringing the modern warrior vibe with rap piece brought it all in a big circle.
the first time i found voiceplay was dragon born comes skyrim so different and dress to the part wow
"EQ TT" sounds like my DJ nickname in high school 💀
Ооо!!!! Геофф Кастелуччи, люблю его супер низкий бас ❤❤❤
That thing you mentioned a few times where they scatter a chord throughout the group like the opening of Nothing Else Matters?
@@thisismetoday7423I could imagine them talking about shoes and laughing like crazy while deciding to what the hey, just keep them.
The bit at the end sounds like the karaoke version which they frequently release to their patrons along side the main video.
Normally (a capella) groups are not my preferred type of music (except when there are a few basses - just because they sound too pretty and similar throughout every song. I tend to love the first half and get bored by the second half. 😅).
But this was a pleasant surprise. Great song, sung by great voices and enough variety of different sounds and rhythms. ❤
Also Geoff is awesome! 🤩
Additionally your analysis was very interesting and enjoyable ("excuse me?!?“ 😂) and I‘ve learned something about archaic music. Glad you chose this. 😊❤
About the reaction first part: I personally prefer a few pauses (maybe just for general first impressions) but there are others that like to watch the whole thing uninterrupted. You did have some great facial expressions. 😂
And I’ll be back either way. ❤
How did you like this style of reaction? 😊
Thanks for choosing to watch! Hopefully this is a surprise musical discovery for you
This style of reaction has its pros and cons, for sure! The flow of listening to the whole song at once is better, but it was more intense that I thought it would be I think my usual method of 1 or 2 pause-and-analysis sections helps to cool the brain down before continuing with the rest of the music 😅
@@SirHairless Yes the song was a pleasant surprise 🤩
Glad this gave you a hint at which reaction style you like better. 👍🏼☺️
Avi Kaplan can throat sing. Some cool parts, it sounds tribal. Not my cup of coffee (instead of tea lol) but I can appreciate it.
❤R/A🎼
13:22 Lovr this😇
Great reaction and analysis!
Enjoy!
Thanks for the recommendation,
SH
(Sir Hairless or Sherlock Holmes)
@@SirHairless Are you a Sherlock Holmes fan, too? No wonder your mind is so organized and orderly! No on has ever commented on my TH-cam Name before. I've been a Holmes fanatic since Junior High School (which was before you were born! I'm a 70 year old woman, BTW).
@@johnwatson2887 Haha thanks for letting me know! I thought I was speaking to the real John Watson
Yes, I like Sherlock 🕵🏽♂
Love your analysis. You always point out something I’ve missed. It makes me appreciate the music more. Thank you.
Thank you, and now as a subscriber, l won't miss any more of you..😊❤
Really enjoyed the reaction/analysis, can't wait for more!
Wow! Just wow! Your reaction was fantastic! I learned a lot about music theory watching. I appreciate your knowledge and explanations.
Just for fun, I'd love to see you react to some of Geoff's solo stuff. His newest release, Unshaken, will blow your mind!
Thanks for this reaction! Made my day. They share their love of fun and music with us. So do you 😊
That ending. They bounced each other off each other it seemed to multiple against itself
Your reactions are such a treat!
That ist the only Song by voiceplay that my nephew allowes me to Play. Cuz He Like it.
And of course i Love it too.
Great reaction 😊 I love Voiceplay and your analysis is so interesting 👍 You may enjoy an older Voiceplay of Phantom of the Opera. Just saying 😅
some fun facts about this song... 1. that's a B0 sub that lasts 15 seconds at the beginning with a slide 2. that's an F#5 from Eli at the end 3. the reason j none comes in later is because his flight got messed up so he had to record his first parts by himself 4. the power kept going out at the filming location 5. it was 90 degrees F and they were in those viking outfits all day 6. they wrote the rap vocals themselves 7. this isn't the first time the viking men have been featured they are also seen in My Mother Told me 8. Your analysis and reactions are priceless and so informative thank you!!!
The rap was written by Alfredo Austin, he is credited in VoicePlay’s video. He also wrote the rap in a different song but I won’t mention the name so no spoilers for Sir Hairless 😊
@@thisismetoday7423 thank you I stand corrected I was misinformed.
