    One of the only youtubers who delivers videos with respect for Thailand.
    I used to go to chiang mai in februari and it wasn’t like this in 2020.
    If you see how much bangkok has changed in case of pollution there is a way out for chiang mai, the only problem is keeping the jobs for the farmers.
    I hope they find a way out because Thailand is very special to me 👍🏻

    Even in 2004 when I traveled in Thailand, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai were my favorite spots. I'd grown out of hanging around beaches anymore (I can do that here in Santa Barbara), and I'm more interested in history and culture than getting a tan. Already, Chiang Mai had a large American ex-pat community. While I was there, I met many Westerners who retired there but they were all couples (I'm single), and so had twice the money I have. Thai language is challenging for Westerners and it's a long long way from home in the USA. We never saw smog or polluted skies, except in downtown Bangkok. It's sad to see the crush of people and gray skies. The skies were always blue in 2004.

    The smoke is soooo bad that I remain inside running my air purifier. It just seems like it is not going to end. I have only seen Doi Suthep once since early February after a rain. Whenever I drive into the city I am ushered into a roadside checkpoint at least twice, once going in and once coming out. As a Westerner I have become accustomed to it.

So sad to see how polluted the air is, we hope it is possible to do something about the misery, we were there 26 February to 5 March and the air was excellent, we were also in Chiang Rai and the air was nice and clean and the sun was shining from a clear sky so we were lucky with the stay, we love Chiang Mai and will return for the third time on the next trip to Thailand. This so true.
    I went to Chiang Mai last month and during my elephant encounter trip, I thought I was seeing a fog but wondered why it's ho sot. Turns out, it's a very thick smog 🥺
    Also, I had to wipe my face clean and you can imagine why.
    Going there, I kinda downplayed it thinking I should already be used to it being from a big city myself but its another level.
    I don't recommend it for anyone with weak lungs.

  • @geov3138

    I dont understand the hype with Chiang Mai. It's up north but it's still very hot. It gets even hotter than Bangkok sometimes, like 40 C +. And then when it's not hot, it's burning season and you can't even breathe. There's like 1-2 months when it's comfortable.

    • @EvolvedBonobo

It seems like it is getting worse and worse, so they should do something about it. Shocking that it is worse than China and number 1 in the world. They are definitely losing tourists for three or so months a year because of it.Thanks for letting us know.

  • @arrukkikrina2755
    @arrukkikrina2755 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's really a headache with Chiang Mai's pollution.
    During this time, the government heavily punished and fined people for burning grass clippings for cultivation. But with the hot weather, it caused more forest fires in the north. While around the country, including Laos, Burma and Vietnam, people there burned fields in large areas. and the wind scattered the ashes of pollution
    This has been a national issue that has been debated in the country for years.
    I think for domestic Handling the problem is not difficult because the people cooperate well. But there may be some who break the rules, but the number is very small.
    The problem that is difficult to solve is the people outside of Thailand.

    Too bad to see the pollution in one of the most beautiful cities in Thailand. I live in Singapore and it used to be this bad there but in the last few years it’s getting better. Mainly due to the pressure the Singaporean government put on countries like Indonesia and Malaysia. Thailand should attack this from a political angle as well. That’s the only way it’s getting better. For now, I actually just got back from Chiangmai in November and it was much better.

    Serious question. Is it mandatory to have adverts at the beginning of YT videos or just something that you all choose to do? I mean the one or two that everyone seems to have now (often 6 seconds plus 14 seconds or so, meaning 20 seconds before the video even starts).

    • @ridewithgabi
      @ridewithgabi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not mandatory. But if you deactivate the ads, TH-cam will not push your video, because it will not make money on it.
      So TH-cam will always promote the videos that choose to have advertising.
      Plus it’s a way for us creator to monetize the work we do.

    The americans and europeans still want to retire for good in smoky-hazy chiangmai, hahaha...😷🤭😭

    I wouldn't go to such polluted places. Maybe if tourists boycott all such places they would clean up their act.

    That’s crazy, pulled over 3 times in one day at a checkpoint. Does anybody know if there are any issues with a AAA issued international drivers permit? And they seem to be pulling over mostly farangs. I’m thinking there would be some racial profiling lawsuits if we mostly only stopped Asians here in the USA.

    But this is just fire smoke, it's not like car pollution.. I don't know if it is really that bad.

      The smoke from the burning has long term affects on the lungs. It is certainly not harmless.
