    I have used the rust oleum in a can like you got, but I have not ever used acetone for reducer. Makes sense tho cuz it evaporates quick and doesn't leave any residue like lacquer thinner does. I'm going to have to try that out on my next project. I also thank you very much for not putting the sound of your air compressor in the video like many have done before!! LoL good work man!

    I'm really glad you stated that you were using a 21 gallon HF compressor. Too many folks lead everyone to believe that you need a 60 gallon to do anything. Maybe a 21 isn't as fast, but your great results prove that it's the technician, not the equipment. Good job/good video.

    • @firstnamelastnameisallowed7943
      @firstnamelastnameisallowed7943 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A major part of it I the technician like you said, and those 21 gallon HF compressors work just fine for doing stuff like this. I have the same compressor and I have shot countless jobs using it. The main thing is to keep it separate in a different room so u don't suck paint into it and for dust so it doesn't shake and blow it all over the place. On a two stage paint job though, that compressor is not what I'd recommend. Sorry if your just doing a few pannels it's fine, but doing a complete car it's to small really to keep up the volume that's needed to lay down the clear nice and flat. It's doable but a bigger compressor or just a more efficient one I would highly recommend if you are doing that show stopper paint job. It's capable like I said it's just you have to stop and let it catch up witch that's not ideal when you are trying to lay down some glass clear coat! Single stage work trucks though, all day long no problem!!

    • @GTsPerformance
      @GTsPerformance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with what you're saying. A bigger compressor would definitely stress out less than a smaller one having to run constantly.. but, still very doable!
      It's been so long I can't remember when I got this HF compressor, but with it I've painted my crew cab Silverado (2 stage), Mitsubishi mirage (rustoleum), jeep Cherokee (rustoleum), can am spyder (2 stage), Suzuki burgman (3 stage), Chinese scooter (2 stage), quad bike (2 stage), this ranch truck (rustoleum),.. and that's just a few I can remember, with this same compressor! but what I'm saying is.. 21 gallon is more than enough if you're a diy guy

    • @JamesSmith-lt5zz
      @JamesSmith-lt5zz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can always add a extra tank Lowe's has them ready to go for 60. All the other ones you have to change out the half inch npt fitting. The one from Lowe's already has air fittings ready to go. Get a 3 ft starter whip for a reel. Or make one and that 21 gallon just became a 29 gallon compressor.

And, rats had chewed the harness going to the injectors on the carburetor (tbi).

    good stuff, the rustoleum vids are my favorite on this channel. I wished it was at least a two part vid. :-) I painted a many back in the day with single stage enamel. Hand wash for thirty days when it is still a bit soft (the sun down there might shorten that a bit) before any machine buffing and pressure washing worked good for me. It would smear real easy with a buffer if used too soon

    Would you consider yourself a pro at painting? I would think you are from the outside looking in but how would you rate yourself on the question also when should one call theirselves a pro or is it based on how many cars one has painted. • @GTsPerformance

      I would never call myself a pro, no matter how many paintjobs I've thrown, or how flawlessly perfect they look! Not because I don't trust my work, but because there is always something new to learn.
      I get comments from people saying how they have been painting over 30yrs, but would never paint anything with rustoleum because "it's not meant to be sprayed on cars".. I don't call them pros at all.

    Hey bro, how long do u wait to spray the 2nd coat?

    • @GTsPerformance
      @GTsPerformance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually spray right away. I'll give the gun a quick clean with acetone, mix a new batch of paint and continue spraying.
      About 10 minutes.
      You're supposed to give it 10-15 minutes dry time between coats. Let's say you start at the front driver fender, you spray it all. Then you jump to the door, bed, tailgate, etc.. by the time you get back around to the driver fender, it's already been over 15 minutes.
      The flash time in between coats is to prevent your paint from dripping in case you go too heavy all in one coat.

      It had been parked a few months. So I got hold of it, cleaned the tbi carb, installed new brakes, calipers, and gave it a fresh coat of paint while I was at it.
      Although it is only a ranch vehicle, it still drives into town to pick up supplies. I didn't want a rusty vehicle to stand out in traffic, just blend in!

    You could have removed a lot of them dents. Why would anyone waste the time to sand the whole truck and not do body work is beyond me. I would not tell people that I done that job. If anyone asked me if I painted that, I would blame the kids.

      Lots of ppl come in here with advice from other videos. LOTS!
      Everyone does what they can, with what works best for them.
      Me, I like rustoleum! Ive done many 2 stage and 3 stage paint jobs, but they all exceed $200 - $300 in material.
      With rustoleum.. I can paint my car twice a week if I wanted to.
      I'm not saying its better than factory paint, but it is better for me!
      If I did a mistake, it's my car, and only $30 spent!
      But, thes also ppl that simply watch way too many videos without actually having any real world experience. So,.. which are you?
      My channel is only inclined to helping viewers that want to experiment on their own, so I share my experience thru these DIY and how to videos with some tips and advice to help along the way.
      Any video of mine!
      Thanks for the feedback
      If you want to blame the kids.. atleast send them here so they can learn a thing or two. ✌
