Factors that can negatively affect vitamin D absorption:
    • Low stomach pH
    (not acidic enough)
    • Gut inflammation
    • Kidney problems
    • Liver problems
    • Bile deficiency
    • Insulin resistance
    • Polymorphism
    • Obesity
    • Gastric bypass surgery
    • Low diversity of microbes
    • High stress
    • A low-fat diet
    • Certain medications
    • Inability to swallow large capsules
    • Darker skin types
    • Age
    • Living further from the equator
    • The winter months
    • Low magnesium, zinc, or K2
    • Not spending enough time outdoors
The best ways to boost vitamin D:
    1. Get one hour of sun per day
    2. Take vitamin D with fat or a meal that contains enough magnesium and zinc
    3. Do keto and intermittent fasting
    4. Consume more fatty fish or cod liver oil
    5. Take vitamin D in liquid form
    6. Consume more vitamin D (if a genetic factor is preventing absorption)
    7. Increase your bile
    Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍🏿

0:48 Dr. Berg recommends 10,000 IU of vitamin D everyday (maintenance dosage)
1:57 If you're worried about toxicity levels of vitamin D, just consume 2.5 liters of fluid everyday and don't take calcium supplements in any large amounts,
3:15 Barriers to vitamin D absorbtion: Stomach pH, gut inflammation, kidney problems, liver problems, if you're not making bile (it's absolutely essential for absorbing vitamin D), insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity, gastric bypass surgery means less ability for absorbing vitamin D, low diversity in microbiom, stress, low fat/cholesterol diet, medication like statins, dark skin color, age, your location on the planet, seasons,
5:28 Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, so it's a good idea to take it with some oil or fat or a meal,
5:37 Dr. Berg's solution for those who can't swallow vitamin D capsules (link in the description),
6:45 Vitamin D absorption is also dependent on your magnesium level and your zinc level,
6:54 Anytime you take Vitamin D3, you always want to take vitamin K2 with it, because they work together, vitamin K2 keeps the calcium out of the joints and arteries,
7:07 Be outside in the sun enough,
7:19 How to BOOST your vitamin D levels:
#1 Get 1 hour of sun per day,
#2 Take vitamin D with fat or a meal,
    #3 Keto and intermittent fasting,
#4 Consume more fatty fish - cod liver oil,
#5 Take vitamin D in a liquid form,
#6 If genetic factor = just take more,
    #7 Increase bile,

💊 If you're taking enough vitamin d and your numbers STILL aren't budging, ask to run both forms of vitamin d (25 and 1,25 hydroxy). You'll likely find that all your d is being converted to the active form, 1,25-hydroxy, and that is making your 25 form appear low. That was the case for me- I was confused why I could never get my blood levels above 49. Now I take enough to get my 1-25 to the upper part of its range and I don't sweat the 25-hydroxy number.

@@lisah6076 I don't think poor absorption is her problem; it sounds like she's absorbing the vitamin d well if it's increasing her Calcium levels. Cofactors are indeed important though.
Vitamin D helps you absorb Calcium, but K2 tells it where to go (bone, teeth) and gets it out of the blood. That's why I brought up K2 specifically.

Dear Dr Berg, thank you for your valuable information about vit D. I live in a very warm country Indonesia and also in a very warm city which near to the sea, the weather temperature shows 33 - 38 degrees the whole day and year. Some people say we can't take sunbath, because it causes skin cancer. And the more we aged, the less absorption of all the vitamins that we take. I'm 78, is it more dangerous to stand under the sun? To tell you the truth, if we walk under the sun at 7 o'clock in the morning, we'll be already sweaty ( perspired) . Not to mention at 9.00 - 10.00 . What time is the best to get the ultra violet B in such a country? Thanks.

Jaycee Hart I have pale skin. Therefore, I get my hour of sun when my shadow is around as long or somewhat shorter than I am tall. If I was darker, I still avoid the mid-day sun but I go closer local noon.
Given your age, I'll add some medications make one more prone to sun damage.
I'd still try for 9:00 to 10:00 standard local time and 2:00 to 3:00 pm standard local time.
Also, I try to expose my legs, back and chest not just my face and arms which too little.

Dr Berg, I had gastric sleeve surgery 2.5 years ago and followed my diet to the T for a little over a year. I was consuming 60-70grams of protein daily and was losing weight like crazy...only problem, I had terrible constipation. I saw my GP and even a gastroenteritis. None of them questioned me about my diet they just wanted to put me on pills..I wouldn't take them and eventually got frustrated because I could not go at ALL unless I took dulcolax..I would take it once a week just to have a bowel movement...eventually I gave up on my diet and started eating whatever I wanted..as soon as I did that I started having a bowel movement every day because I was barely eating any protein. I said all that to say I want to get on track and was wondering if you had any suggestions on losing weight without going completely keto??
