@CREEACTION.3 your next song has the be the big push I shot the sheriff/ road to zion/ hip hop. Look for the red suspenders. I need to hear your view on th8s. I'll listen and share your song
Thanks for giving Ren a real chance. I hope you continue to explore him, he's a wild and beautiful ride. Good luck with your work. I'll check out your song.
Well, to meet Ren for the first time in "KBD" is really unfortunate. That song is really angry and cathartic. One of a kind. (Well, to be honest, all his songs are one of a kind, but that one is a bit of an extreme.) I'm sure you'll like his catalogue, there is so much wonderful music. I'll be here to witness that. I'm really glad you like "Hi Ren". Thank you for giving Ren another chance. :o) 💙
Ren has so many different styles, if you don't like one genre there is always another-- if you like boom bap I would recommend "Nas Halftime retake". Reggae and Ska-- I would recommend "Murderer (especially live)", "Humble w/Edan Nash", or "I Shot the Sheriff" mash up busking with his band "The Big Push" (red suspenders version.) Dance/tehno rap I would recommend "Losing It" or "Down on the Beat" Guitar focused singer songwriter I would recommend "Chalk Outlines" live with Chinchilla, "How to be me" live with Chinchilla, or his "Fred Again Mash Up". A bit of R&B "Back on 74/Message in a bottle" And Bardcore/Story telling "Tales of Jenny and Screech" or Money Game Trilogy. He is so versatile most music fans don't have to like everything he does and can still find some things in his catalog that resonates.
Lovely watching you play this through and seeing you process Ren’s art. This song is more than poetry and introspection. It is a live performance masterpiece. I appreciate your candor. If KBD was the first piece of Ren’s catalog I’d heard, without knowing the context and reason behind Ren needing such an intense outlet for his feelings; I would likely have been shocked. Watch the video explaining why KBD was created. I’m glad you had another go with Ren’s music. Try listening to Troubles, and the Tales trilogy. Then to blow your mind check out How to Be Me and Chalk Outlines (live versions) with Ren and Chinchilla. Your open mind and heart and interesting insights speak volumes about your love of music and your character. We appreciate you and will check out your work. Welcome to the big, messy, loving, supportive Renegade family. We are happy you’re here.
Just subbed, really enjoyed your reaction. Ren is certainly thought provoking. He has many styles, genres and is truly a beautiful human being despite what he has gone through and still is. Keep going you will always be surprised.
I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. jAN 01, 2023~~~rEN~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.
Hi Ren is the song that catapulted Ren into most people's consciousness, introducing them into so much of his work. Kujo Break Down is not like his other work at all but it was Ren expressing that extreme side of our personalities - rage. (Watch his 30 minute explanation of what led to it and you will understand that his rage was righteous)
I was listening to his song “Blind eyed” with Sam today (MC version, god In love it) and I struggled to put it in any genre unless I started blending them. Great reaction, love your honesty.
With the kujo beat down, no one should be shocked at how Ren deals with his emotions, we have all watched him and cried with him over the years to know this is what he does. The beat down was brilliant for Ren, A rising tide lifts all ships is what Ren practices and kujo tried to bully and rob him and everyone else who got some resolutions out of sick boi. Kujo is lucky Ren is a great human being.
I’m so happy you liked this one! I can’t to see you do some of his wide range of talent. He’s (in my opinion) a lyrical genius. I think you will discover you can’t figure out his style. I honestly have only come across two reactors who didn’t like Ren. The other 85,000 I’ve watched love him. 😂. Check out his busking “I shot the Sheriff.” (Subscribed.)
Thank you for your review. I love your way of descibing this video. I am 70 years old and hated rap till I found Ren. Now I watch reviews again and again to see them react to Ren for the first time. I will go check out your music. Subcribed.
Another Renegade here, loved your reaction, most reactors go next to "Sick Boi (this vid may not be up for long (issues that don't need to know about early in)), then "The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full version)" then fill your boots man, "The Hunger", "Loosing it (Ren having fun)" plus what ever anyone in the comments recommend.. Sub & liked btw
I really enjoyed your reaction to this song. I love the fact that you can set aside your personal opinions on how you felt about the Kujo Beat Down video and came into this open minded. The world needs more of that. The first video you watched was not what you should expect from Ren in terms of the vengeful anger fueled production. You'll find that Ren (speaking in generalities) is a very kind and generous person. That previous video is him being pushed too far. Ren also allows reactors to monetize reactions to his music and is supportive of the community. I look forward to seeing you react to more of his music. A few recommendations across several genres... Rap: The Hunger The Big Push (his band): I Shot the Sherrif/Road to Zion Praise you Mental Health: Dominoes Su!cIde Collabs: Ren & Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed Ren & Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines I am confident that the more you dive in the more you'll enjoy and be amazed by how versatile and talented Ren is.
I don’t know you, so I hope I don’t come off as pretentious when trying to compliment. But I watch a lot of people react to this song. Like, I’ve literally watch the original video once or twice, and the rest of it is watching other folks go through this for the first time. A lot of reactors will stop the video at various points. Not that I mind it, because I’ve watched guitar people blow their minds from the contents, but they also share that he’s using nylon strings, which give a quality to the music you don’t normally see. And others point out that most of the time he’s plucking the strings like one does (though, they also mention that he’s REALLY good), but in some parts he’s plucking really hard, making it more chaotic. They’ll talk about how evil REN is always playing one melody, including the percussion bit when he sort of taps the guitar. And Good REN is a different melody. And even when each face only says one line before being interrupted, he switches from one to the other. Video producers point out that the guitar is plugged in, and you can see the mic on his hospital gown. That there are three different cameras, so you can see the left right thing as the different faces talk. That he did this in one take, though that was his fourth take. They point out how the video starts with the three cameras in fixed places in the end, the pig mask guy is holding the camera. You watch him stand. He’s looking straight into the camera, not looking at the other REN. A lot oh hip-hop folks talk about the verses rhyming, and also the inside of a verse rhymes. I can’t rhyme for shit, but I gather that level of lyrical perfection requires a lot of skill. Voice coaches talk about how Evil REN more nasal, and more aggressive. How that voice is harsher, and the notes are sloppy. On purpose, because the goal is to make us uncomfortable. Good REN says a line, then pauses, then a line, etc. they talk about the yodeling at the front and the end, and how he sings each note, and doesn’t just slide from one to the next. And all that stuff is important, no doubt. But a lot of them are saying stuff just to say stuff. After the video was done playing, I could see you kind of struggling for something meaningful to say. But these are REACTION videos, and if your honest reaction is to just sit there with your mouth open and your mind blown, that’s real honesty. If you are so moved that you can’t even make words happen, that’s probably the best compliment anyone could make. Me personally, I’m a words kind of person. Not in the sense of rhyme schemes, but stuff like… why Jimi Hendrix? And I have some mental the stuff of my own, so there’s some stuff I can explain. So let’s start with the straight facts. A lot of people see this and are like, “Split personality?” But it’s isn’t. Multiple Personality Disorder, now called Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), is when something so emotionally traumatic happens to you, your mind will create some other person, and the trauma happens to them. Not always a whole person, sometimes they have no memory, and sometimes they can’t talk… they’re there to suffer in your place, not talk about it. But there are two things most important here: however many other people get created, their entire purpose for existing is to protect the real you. They aren’t necessarily GOOD; the best way to protect you might be to kill your abuser, for example. But however much they may disagree on the best way to do it, they all agree that you should be protected. The second thing to know is that these alternate identities can take over. Push “you” out of the driver’s seat so they can do what needs doing. REN had (has?) Lyme disease. Which is from a bacteria carried in ticks. But he was misdiagnosed as bipolar disease. So for like ten years, he was being given medication that won’t help, and denied the medication that would help. The bacteria tricks your immune disease into attacking your own body. There was a period when he was in bed 23h per day. The wheelchair is a reference to that. So when he stands up at the end, he’s referring to actually standing up for the first time in years. When he says “I have stood in the flames that cremated my brain”… his immune system was literally attacking his brain. Which leads us to psychosis. While DID is a problem of the mind, psychosis is a problem of the brain. You do not cure it, you cope with it. REN heard the voice. And that will never get better, but he can learn how to ignore what it says. The hallucinated people from psychosis are NOT there to protect you. Mostly the opposite. But on the plus side, they can never take control. They just whisper into your ear. This personality is usually referred to as Shadow. I really like how the lyrics kind of blur the line between. They both have, more or less, the same voice. They’re both named REN. At one point, Shadow says “… not your place to be biting off the hand that feeds me”. Normally, the phrase is to bite the hand that feeds YOU. But since YOU and ME are so blurred together, Shadow said ME. Shadow says “You think you can amputate me”… Amputation is specifically about cutting away a piece of something from the rest of the thing. You remove, or excise, a tumor. That’s taking that isn’t really part of the thing and severing it from the thing. But you amputate a limb. Core REN says, “ … it gives me a purpose I can rest in.” That’s “rest” as in “rest in peace”. Other verses hint at him wanting a legacy, but just before this line, Shadow was making fun of him for not having any Grammies, and other trappings of being famous NOW, but REN wants something to rest in, or to rise in the music I left behind. I love that the first thing he sings, not just raps or yodels, but proper song, is: “So cower at the man I’ve become, when I sing from the top of my lungs”. His first line of song is about his first line of song. But also, “… at the man I’ve become…”. Present tense. Not the man he will become, the man he HAS become… the man he is NOW. “And you know how I know that I’ll prosper / cause I stand here beside you today”. I’d have said “stand before you”. There’s a saying, “Stand before your god, bow before your king, kneel before your man”. But that always assumes your god, king, or man is somebody apart from you… other… even ABOVE you. REN stands here beside you.. one of you.
I wouldn't have liked the Kujo beat down if it were the first thing of his I'd heard. Good on you for giving him another go! You've only barely scratched the surface with Ren, and I don't have to go to the comments to know the renegades have given a ton of recommendations about what to listen to next. Seriously though, I appreciate the honest review, it lets everyone know you're a real one, not just reviewing things positively because that's what the fans want. I would challenge you to listen to a few more of his songs, and then listen to the Kujo track again. I'm gonna go check out your song now 😊
Yes and maybe watch his explanation of why sick boy was taken down. Ren is fighting for all musicians on social media. Having a face to face meeting with head of music for TH-cam. I’d have loved to be a fly on the wall for that one.😜
Now consider, that was live. Lapel mic, guitar plugged in. 3 cameras doing a single take video. They got four takes in before they were kicked out... an outrageous delivery. Beyond that, you're dead right on your interpretation of the light and dark playing roles. Also love you're awareness of the cringe fear factor, which is frankly a reflection of the songs message. Go on and treat yourself to the Tales of Jenny and Screech (and violet) and also Sickboi (the track that got taken down as a result of Kujos behaviour that created the Beatdown track.
The video itself however is a compilation of the best nits of the four takes they shot plus some additional hand held footage. The audio is indeed from a single take.
@CreativePhotoWS ah good to know. I'd thought it was all shots from the same take, but on reflection, there were times where I'd thought the audio wasn't in sync with the specific shot and that probably explains that.
@@falloncj there’s so much misinformation, hyperbole and urban legend in the comment sections of reactors to this song. Doesn’t help when Ren himself (and Sam) don’t always explain it clearly. A good example is they keep saying they only had 30mins and did 4 takes but the song is 9 minutes long and 4x9 is 36 :)
I suggest you 😂turn off captions. Sometimes it is a spoiler. Plus, they usually can't keep up with him lol. If you want lyrics, Ren puts them there for you in comments
One of the best breakdowns I've seen from any reactor, and trust me I've seen hundreds. Great job. Very smart guy 👍

REN stands here beside you.. one of you.
Great breakdown - next is sick boi
You're amazing brother

LESSS GOOO
Words for the algo. ❤
Good reaction.
