‘The Song of Durin’ wasn’t actually in any of the movies. It is from the first book of ‘The Lord of The Rings’ trilogy. When they make camp while journeying through Moria, Gimli sings the song to the fellowship to help them better understand the history of the dwarves(/the realm of Moria).
In the BTS we say Geoff build that tomb. He really can do it all. Yes that was Gimli, if you look close you can see a fake nose added for the character. Geoff has hinted that there could be a fourth in the series. :) I didn't know the song either but it had been much requested.
Geoff is a master of everything he does. He thinks of everything & leaves no stone unturned. Thank you for another great reaction to Geoff.

I've already listened to it soooo many times. The harmonies are goosebump level.
I actually cried the first time I heard that song (the Clamavi de Profundis version) and cried even more yesterday, while watching Geoff's cover.
Geoff's wife Kathy took charge of the set design, props,, and costuming. They'll probably have the tomb in their front yard next month. Many of the set pieces belong to Pattycake but Geoff and Kathy built the tomb.
Such a beautiful setting and the music is incredible. LOVE this.
I saw him respond to your comment at the premiere and I wondered if you got a record about it as I would have! This song, the set, the costumes, the BEARDS, it's all magnificent!

Tolkien wrote many epic poems, and some of them have been converted to songs. I understand it, this is one of those. I don’t think it was in the movies.
Another group, Clamavi de Profundis, set the poem to music. I have a playlist called LOTR with a lot of the soundtracks. That immediately got added to the playlist, as Geoff’s version.
Misty Mountains has been my favorite for a long time. I find the pacing and the deep bass very soothing . Then he came out with I See Fire with each of the dwarves really getting to show off their own range. This combines the best of both in my opinion. It’s got that slow pacing where you can really appreciate that deep voice, but each of the dwarves get to sing a bit as well. And those harmonies! Delicious!
Good catch on the lighting! In the behind-the-scenes we were able to see the preliminary lighting scheme as Geoff was creating it. At one point the screen says something like “lights on full, hopeful “. I had to go back and watch to catch that, mostly because I was so mesmerized by the music.
And yes, that was Gimli. When I watched this I got a little bit of a flashback to his Ghost Riders of the Sky since they also faded at the end. But this was so much more powerful.
It’s been over a year since I last read the whole series. Time to dig out my hard covers!
This is the best video and song he's ever done. He also did "Far Over The Misty Mountain Cold" and "I See Fire" with the 4 outer dwarves.
They're in Durin's Tomb. That's why Gimili walks in the beginning and then walks out at the end.
Geoff built and painted the tomb and columns.

Voiceplay was going to release their new video last Friday. However they had to delay until next Friday the 27th at noon est.

Mykal is one of the founding members 1997- 2002 with Geoff, Layne and Earl. They were a barbershop quartet singing in front of various businesses. Mykal left to sing and act on Broadway. He's still going strong.
