I really enjoyed this very much, a very good method! You really avoided the crunchiness that sharpening tools usually give you and just left it "improved!" which is all we can hope for. Will work with this next week!
Thank you George for all you do!!!

I have restored quite a few old photos. There were a number of black and white photos I colorized once I fixed them.
I can't remember but I do not think I used the spot healing tool and some of the others you mentioned. Next time will also try using the sharpening tool and the levels adjustment layer. Thanks for making me aware of these tools.

There are quite a few different ways to approach doing a photo restoration, the biggest problem is that most techniques soften the image. Doing the repairs in very small areas like in this video helps to minimize any of that softening.

George, you often show things that others don't know about. This idea about edges and 50% sharpen tool - is very creative. I've always understood, that on old pictures we need to trick the eye when the image isn't sharp enough. But what I used to do was insufficient, and most importantly, not very successful. I always took a sharpen tool from 2-3 to 7-9% and did mostly eyes. Even with such small percentages, bad traces used to appear on the edges and there was an extra shine. Your idea is a wonderful creative result. Everything you say when you explain the subject is relevant. Never any bullshit. I am sure that if you were among those who created the fundamental ideas for Photoshop Elements, the device would be better and more convenient.
    Good luck.
    Veniamin.

Thanks! What I do is to experiment a lot. I normally try several different ways to do something for my videos and then I go with the one idea that works best. Adobe does take ideas from me, without any thanks of course. Worst case was PSE 2018, the main new feature was 4 new Guded Edits which were just automated versions of the 4 projects from my PSE 2017 training title (PSE 15). Elements is programmed in India and they are not that creative.

George, I suspected, that SOBs were stealing your ideas. I wanted to ask, but then I decided not to cause you that pain. I can imagine how you feel about it. There was SOB with Ph.D. who was stealing my articles in Internet and published them on his site as his own. That's a long story, but I really understand your resentment.
      Good luck.
      Veniamin

@@veniamin1LJ Thanks, I really don't care any more because I make a fair amount from selling my training courses for PSE, so I guess it all works out in the end.
