    Photo Restoration is the process you use to repair old photos and can be easily done with photo editing software like Photoshop Elements. As printed photos age they are subject to lots of wear and tear, resulting in damaged old photos. Here is my 5 step photo restoration process that I use to repair old photos with Photoshop Elements. Plus I include a Bonus Step using AI Artificial Intelligence to reformat the image for 8x10. Using AI along with Photoshop Elements is a great way to add more power and flexibility to the Photoshop Elements photo editing program. If you want more Photoshop Elements projects then check out my channel where I have hundreds of Photoshop Elements project videos.

    Wonderful tutorial! I have a lot of older pictures from my grandparents, talking WWI time period and a bit earlier, and most need a little love. I have hesitated to do work on some but your tips here are really going to help me with them. Thank you. Also I purchased your Elements2021 lessons and have been working through them.

      Thanks! One of the nice things about working digitally is that you can work on a copy, so you never risk ruining the original. Thanks for your purchase of my training course, that is how I keep this channel going!

    Great tutorial!!!! As you know I work on this kind of stuff everyday. It was glad to see that I am doing much of it in a similar way. When I was a kid, we had an old guy down at the mall that would take photos clean them up and then finish them with paint. It was something he came across and it really worked spectacularly for him. It was in fact an artistic gift!! Today it seems to had got so hard. The resolution in many of these old photos is just gone or very low. You can only do so much with them. It is critical to know when to quit. I am glad you talked about faces because that by far is the hardest part. Thank you for the tips on how to set up the clone stamp tool and Dali!!! I have been having a lot of fun with much of this AI stuff, it has its limitations. Been working with the audio part of AI of late and also with some writing stuff!!! Thank you again for all you do!

      Thanks Rich! These retouch videos aren't as popular as some other stuff (like changing backgrounds) but I enjoy doing them. Way back when I used to so some hand coloring of black and white photos with oil paints as stains. Really liked doing those, but times change.

    Very nice! Lots of great work in your example. Time consuming but great result.

      Thanks! My real good work takes hours so I never do videos on that. But this one shows many of the techniques.

    I have restored a number of old B&W photos doing much of the same stuff as you have demonstrated. As usual, I learned a few new things in this tutorial. One of the things I like to do is to create an additional photo to the B&W photo which I colorize. I used to manually colorize each item using layer masks but I found that the ColorIze Photo((Alt + Ctrl + R) in PSE colorizes everything in the photo somewhat accurately. If something is off , then I go in and made the adjustment. There were some steps I took prior to using the "colorize photo" tool to make it more accurate in creating the right colors. Unfortunately it has been a long time since I colorized old B&W photos and I forgot what I used to do to make the "Colorize Photo" more accurately create the theoretical actual colors that might have existed had it been a color photo instead of a B&W photo.

      @HTGGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Colorize tool at the top, click on Manual instead of Auto. Now you can set the color you want for each area. I have found that increasing the contrast of the picture before this step helps to separate out the areas.

    Nice video, would love to see you do a video with Topaz Photo ai as a plugin.

    • @HTGGeorge
      @HTGGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark, Topaz Photo doesn't work as a plugin for Photoshop Elements. Works great with Adobe Photoshop.

    • @markteeee
      @markteeee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HTGGeorge Not fully admittedly but you can do all except resizing, including ai face restoration so I do this first, then do resizing using it as a standalone ap.

    • @HTGGeorge
      @HTGGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markteeee Topaz is a great product, but since most of my viewers are beginners who chose PSE because of cost they really aren't into purchasing plugins or add ons. I have made quite a few videos in the past on some great plugins and companion programs, but no one watches those videos. So, even though Topaz is a great program, doing a video on it wouldn't work for my channel.

    • @markteeee
      @markteeee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HTGGeorge Yes I understand, I really like elements and like many can't justify the extra cost of the full photoshop. Your videos are brilliant, I've watched them all.

    • @HTGGeorge
      @HTGGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markteeee Thanks Mark! I have a lot of stuff here that I just can't justify making videos about. Oh well.
