Twenty Four is nice and wide, but the zoom really adds to usability. No matter what zoom I have I always want it longer at the long end. What is most distressing is the slow pace of modernization in actual camera bodies relative to social media and AI technology for things like low light, compared to a smartphone. With the exception of body size, I see no reason why specialized professional camera bodies should be outclassed by mere smartphones when it comes to convenience and outcome for ordinary snaps and sharing. That includes high-end point an shoot models as well.
However, in the end, they will never remake these cameras and classic models in the digital age should prove an interesting experiment in terms of longevity. The internal electronics may one day fail and repairs? I have a 28-300 L lens that I should never have bought, many years ago, and it has an internal problem and who knows if it can be repaired, or indeed, if one should bother. On the other hand, manual lenses should outlast us all.
    Best wishes! God bless!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on cameras and technology. I can understand your frustration with the slow pace of modernization in camera bodies relative to social media and AI technology for things like low light, compared to smartphones.
It is true that smartphones have revolutionized the way we capture and share everyday moments, and it is impressive how much technology has advanced in this field. However, I believe that there will always be a place for specialized professional camera bodies and lenses, especially for those who are passionate about photography and want to capture the highest quality images possible.
As for classic camera models, they have a timeless charm and appeal that cannot be replicated by digital cameras. It is interesting to think about how these cameras will fare in the long run, and whether they will become valuable artifacts in the future.
Regarding the issue with your 28-300 L lens, it can be frustrating when equipment fails, and it's understandable to wonder if it's worth repairing. However, I believe that if a piece of equipment has sentimental value or if it is still useful, it is worth considering repair options.
Best wishes to you as well, and may your passion for photography continue to bring you joy and fulfillment.

I can agree that smartphones reached some level in ability to capture images. But to be honest, I'm personally always disappointed by the overprocessed artifical look of outcomes from even hi end phone cameras. I use RX100 1st gen, we compared it to Iphone 13pro and especially in the fine details from the ip comparing to the reasonably processed raw from 10+yrs old $160 second hand camera there was a huge difference for me.
Long story short - I'm not inspired to take photos by any smartphone, my creativity is at level 0 using smartphone. But using dedicated device with all the control over the process, this is what's for me. And I can see the dying of the hi end pocket cameras very sadly...
I say this from background of 15years of hobby photographing, have had 4 DSLRs with 6 lenses, currently Fuji X100V and Sony RX100M6 and especially M1 which I like so much because of portability and image quality...
