For anyone wondering about performance, the game is more stable than ys8 and ys9 because YSX was done in house by Falcom, instead of being out sourced on Switch like previous YS titles. The frame rate is 30fps and will drop when theres a ton of alpha effects on screen, the Switch version has poor texture filtering, god rays and shadows are also bad and theres missing water affects. However if handheld play is the most important thing to you, this is the best looking/performance YS game because Falcom did not out source this for Switch.
You say that the performance is better because it was developed in house, but from what I can see the game constantly runs so poorly that it has heavy slowdown, which I don't remember there being in Ys 8(I didn't play 9 on Switch because I knew it would be a shitshow). To me personally this leans towards being unplayable if you want the game to play at full speed, it almost performs as if it's being emulated on a system that can't handle it
I don't know either. 8 had pacing issues, Dana should have joined a lot sooner. I was glad that the cat girl and cow lady were one of the first to join Adol
Those are the weirdos. Ys 9 is actually one of the best games in the series easily. It had the best story, the characters were great, gameplay and the music was great. I'm with you. Ys 9 was the best one to me. 8 is highly overrated. I think the reason why people like 8 is because of the skimpy chic u can play as. People love that seen when she threw her close off in the beginning of the game smh. There is no way 8 could hold a candle to 9. The level design and area the game took place in was boring. I'm a huge ys fan. So far, x looks very weak compared to 9.
Because of the setting. All the other Ys games take place in various flavors of rustic fantasy country side. Ys 9 traps you in the fantasy version of the civilized world.
I'd recommend Ys 9 to people who have already fallen in love with the series, though it still plays very well and the initial blandness opens up to a good degree as you progress. I'd argue it does some things better than 8, though 8 is still my favorite overall. In Ys X, it makes perfect sense that Adol would be super excited about the ocean. By this point, he'd only wrecked one boat so he's probably super excited to have more disasters at sea. There's no better way to start an adventure than by washing up on shore in a new place! I hope that Ys X, like 8 before it, becomes a good entry point into the series for people. I also fell in love with 8 and played through the entire series after finishing it. I even enjoyed Ys V (the "bad" one). X has been my most anticipated game this year! Also, Adol having a big jarring fully-voiced line has randomly become a tradition of the last few entries.
As someone who primarily games on Switch these days, I'm glad to see the Switch version of Ys X is quality (unlike what happened with 9). I'm a little nervous about buying it on Switch though because, given the timing, Falcom very likely has a Switch 2 ("Ounce") version coming.
If Switch 2 is backwards compatible then it’s fine. I highly doubt there is a Switch 2 version. Unless this game sells really well. But it would probably be at least a year away
@@zach177 Simply playing the game on Switch 2 won't upgrade the visuals or FPS. It would have to be patched. That's why I think a Switch 2 version is likely being planned.
I feel like I'm one of the only seven people who prefer IX over VIII. I really dug the party members and the general theme reminded me of Dark Tokusatsu along with your traversal powers feeling like a mini superhero game in general. I really liked it.
I completely agree. Ys8 with my first foray into the series. And I completely fell in love with it. The story and the way it unfolded completely engrossed me. And I was let down slightly by 9. It wasn't a bad game but 8 set the bar so high. I will be getting 10, but this time my expectations will be set more realistically.
@Bluestar1079 you can't be serious!? 8 set's the bar high? Yeah, right! U have really bad taste if u think that 8 was far overrated. Even the top down oath in felghana is a better game than that! 9 was a way better game than 8. 9 is actually one of the game in the series. 9 had better music, better cast of characters, looked better, and definitely a better engaging, and involving storyline.
This sounds really neat. I love the concept of just having a tight duo. I could find combat a bit chaotic at times in the past. In particular, controlling both characters at once sounds neat. And the need to swap back and forth to activate abilities feels like a good incentive to not just focus on one. I also love me some shit combat.
Exploring the world on ship reminds me of old days of final fantasy and tales of though unlike them, you have actual ship battles. Remember when there was a world map and you go around your ship or airship to explore it? This kind of reminded me of it and loved it. I wish more jrpgs or rpgs do something like this and maybe improve on it. I only wish the character you didint use was able to do there own special attacks and you had few more characters you play as but overall love the game. 8 is still my favorite. Love a ys game or another jrpg that combines best aspects of 8 and 10. (also love to combine some of xilia combat style as i loved each partner character in that game had duo arts ability ^^)
Ys 9 is a much better game than 10, in most respects. 9 has better combat, better platforming, better level design, better environments and monsters, is less linear, has less invisible walls, and a better balanced difficulty, and several playable characters. More voiced lines. You can also equip new weapons visually, which you cant in 10. Soundtrack is about the same level. Visually, 10 looks a bit cleaner, but with generic and boring designs. The setting of 10 might also be more interesting to some people. But thats about it. 9 is clearly a better, higher budget production.
I can't stand modern text in games. Not all of us have, or even want or can accommodate, 60-inch screens in order for on-screen text to be almost legible. Same with modern HUDs. Whatever happened to having information that the player needs in order to play a game convenient for the player to see? It's always either too small, and/or tucked in a corner as far away from my vision's focal point as possible.
@@gurvmlk mines 65inch ys 9 was tiny, I got it on switch and literally can't play it because it's so small in handheld. They just need an option to make the text bigger I think they are stuck with having it set to size for working 1ft away at a computer?
I just now played the demo and looking for a TOTK replacemnt, this game runs awefull and has long load times. Also the graphics are kinda bad. Thanks for the review i didn;t know about a game like this just saw it in the eshop.
For the next installment Adol should be no less than 40 years old! This isn't pokemon and the franchise has been around for thirty years. There's more to life than the teens and twenties. I want to see a 40 year old man getting to it!
Not at all... Maybe on easy... You have to parry and dodge... Try hard and tell me if you can beat bosses mashing buttons...yoi never played ys game to say that. Try ys origins, ys 7....they re really hard...

That's good to know. Thanks for that info brother. I Have 8 and 9 on switch

Thanks for your overview. If it's the same or better than Y's VIII, it can be played fine on switch.
Thanks. I'll buy it on steam and play on the steam deck where it looks better and is much cheaper.
Honestly to me both Ys 8 and 9 look amazing on Switch. So if this new game is better than those two I am happy.
I don't get how ppl were disappointed in ys9 I greatly enjoyed it
I did too. Ys 9 was great
Agreed! I think Ys 9 had good pacing and enjoyed it as well

Thank you for the detailed review! Glad to hear this is more optimized for Switch than Ys 9 was. It looks like it will be a fun adventure.

Can’t wait!
There is audio language option in menu? For choice between english or japanese voices?
yes
Isn’t this not out for like 2 weeks? How did you get it so early
Ys 8 looked great on switch. 9 had some issues but overall was great. Ys 10 should be perfectly fine on switch
doe anyone know the actual length of the loading times? he said it wasnt long but how long are we talking about here?
I liked YS 8 but had come off Xenoblade and was RPG tired. Is this better? I also never finished YS origin.
You forgot to say don't get attached to your ship because with Adol is not going to survive to the next game 😂
someone say its 60fps handled , its that right ?
From the Japanese demo that I've played, no
It runs at 30fps on Switch in both docked and handheld mode
60 fps ps and xbox..
that's too much to expect from 2013-ish hardware
Must be played on 60 fps especially on nightmare/inferno.
Oh man been waiting for this
It looks awesome
Can you re-map the controls to your liking ?
If you meant reassigning buttons, then yes.
Hopefully the framerate won't be as bad as ys 9

Does Ys X have an intro? Monstrum Nox broke tradition and lacks an intro which really disappointed me...
Nope 😔
the performance of ys ix is something very ugly for the playability and experience, I am glad that in ys x the performance has improved.

30 FPS... That switch successor is badly needed
Leave it to switch reviewers for an awful review.
