Hahahaha saying to your hair when it doesn't work out the way you were expecting, "that's a BRAVE look" sometimes i do say that and somehow it makes it better. Also fluff nugget is popping with that hat !!!!!! and the earrings, wow what a beautiful style!
Some do actually desire to keep their hair short which is fine. I don't think the issue is that its still so short. Its more along the lines of many 4c individuals have connected with their crown. Due to this hair begins to thrive, flourish, become healthy, thick, long and lovely. Once you also reach this point it'll make more sense. Until then you can always stretch your hair as a method to assist your growth, and increase styling options.
I’m a month into being natural and my biggest frustration is my hair’s identity crisis. It doesn’t want to be defined or shaped as anything other than an 80s fro no matter what I do to it. Give me a black beret and turtleneck, and I’d be mistaken for a Black Panther :/
Nichole Hale I’ve been growing my natural hair for more than a year, but I got the relaxed ends cut off in early July...well, most of them. The hairdresser understandably missed a few.
Nichole Hale At this point, I’m open to anything! I haven’t tried using heat or any serious hair masks yet, so I guess that’s next on the list. Thanks for the advice!
I agree with you about long hair and femininity completely so this isn’t to mess with your points. I’m just a Disney nerd, so I wanted to point out that Cinderella, Snow White, and Mulan (after she cut it) don’t have long hair. Notice how Mulan is much happier after she cuts her hair and let’s go of feminine standards that she can’t adhere to, no matter how hard she tries. And as for Rupanzel’s pixie cut at the end, yeah you can look at it as if she’s lost all her magic once the hair is gone. But you can just as easily look at it as she’s lost such a heavy burden as well. It was the reason for her capture and enslavement and fear for 18 years, and once she was able to let it go, she became free. Similarly, once we as black women let go of the notion of white ideals of femininity which enslave us, we are free to embrace all our hair’s beauty.
Natural hair "movements" amongst Black women happen every 30 years or so. The natural hair movements of the 60's and the 90's centered short, kinky hair, or the hair we were born with. This most recent movement is not about natural hair - it's about natural hair that is close to whiteness and European beauty standards. This includes the obsession about length. And yes - I'm quite sure it's deliberate. Now I see sistas with straightened hair, while calling it "natural" (NOPE) and having periodic "length checks," as though long hair is some sort of virtue. There is nothing new under the sun, but this focus on mixed-looking hair as the only "right" way to be natural? That's some new sh*t. When I see Black women with African hair, and African features, talking about how much they hate their appearance, is sad on some levels, but it's still ridiculous AF. We are the originals, and we still act like we don't know that.
I'm glad your wash n go journey has had a positive effect on your love of your hair! It's been lovely watching your grow into (recognizing) your own dang beauty!

@@gcal78 No but the thing is black women/girls will get very bad and disrespectful comments for having short hair( from all types of people, mostly their own) and white women don't really have that type of backlash. No one really cares about their hair. But yeah she doesn't mention race in video.
Gica Rey thats one Disney princess and shes probably the only (or at least there are very few) exceptions. The fact is a white woman having short hair and a black woman having short hair are very two completely different things. Hell even hairstyles, when a white girl wears a messy bun it’s a legitimate hairstyle, when a black girl leaves her edges tf alone and doesn’t have it snatched for the gods, it’s unkempt. Texturism is a thing and generally the kinkier your hair is, the significantly less leeway you’re given. So if you’re 4c the message is that shit better be snatched, long, thick and full. And the looser your hair gets the looser that standard is applied.

I found @iamblackgirlcurls early last year and ended my product chasing/ hair dysmorphia. I have a shape cut into my hair, so whether its defined or an afro, it has some rhyme or reason. The images of "4c" hair these stylists display on their IG accounts are stunning 😄. I'm glad you're in a happier, healthier mindset about your hair. Have a blessed weekend ☺️

I didn’t know if you get this a lot but you’re a veryyy good speaker. You express your thoughts really well (it’s thoughts that we have too but haven’t really put into words so it’s just sitting in our brains). But yeah, I enjoy listening to you
Oh I def noticed that short hair is attributed to auntie hairstyles lol. But lately with my short hair (depending on the style I put it in - for example my profile picture) I think it makes me look younger to be honest 💖And I like it haha
It does and you look beautiful
Oh Man....This video is speakiing directly to my soul. I can't even begin to express how impactful your words are for me right now. I'm about to make that step to truly only wearing my natural hair, like getting it cut, shaped and styled for the first time in a natural hair salon and this video is addressing a ton of those deep seated insecurities that I have surrounding my natural hair
Authenticity is your most versatile accessory.
That part where you said it shrinks to your scalp that part lol yeah I feel ya!
Love your look, and the hat actually stays on, impressive. Gives me hope. Not gonna lie I thought I wouldn't be able to wear any hats with this natural hair.
Your hair is looking beautiful! Fluff is back!
... this video is the manifestation of “deja vu”. Let’s push ourselves creatively when it comes to content and commentary
StarPuppy you are a STAR, I love your hair and your energy. Such a beautiful Smile. Glow on Pretty Girl. Thank you for the Videos.
Shrinkage can be so disrespectful sometimes lol my hair is up to my collarbones yet shrinks up to my ears 🙃 but I must love my hair at any length though
You WHOLE speech about beauty at @10:00 is so LIFE and FIRE!! I love your intelligence, beauty, and eloquence! Im proud that you branched out of the familiar beauty and became a sample of beauty! LOVE TO SEE IT!!
I get so ridiculously excited when you post I just actually adore you
I can relate to what you're saying, being a girl with fine type 4 hair, that is also short, and hard to grow, it has been a constant battle between myself and my hair. Im still on the journey to loving my hair fully for what it is. Your videos really contribute to my journey of accepting my hair, thank you so much for sharing your emotions. It helps alot of us❤
Your full of fun to look at, Everyone's hair have a mind of their own. The truth is each and everyone is unique & so is our hair, pamper it and love it the best way u can.
I’m so early!! I love this hat/earrings combo!!💖
I have short 4c hair and I'm still working on loving it. Especially because my sister has "good quality hair" and i don't not to mention i am 16 and struggling with my self image. So i really appreciate your videos, they helped me so much to see a TH-camr that i can really relate to .❤
This may not be the best channel for you. She's profiting off negativity. You're quite young and should surround yourself with positivity.
Thank you for having these conversations!
"John Smith before I understood the history" THAT'S A MOOD, TOOK ME YEARS TO ADMIT IT
Ooo are you wearing a bonnet under your hat? That's smarttt 🤔🤔
Yes......I want 80s hair as well.
I’m a month into being natural and my biggest frustration is my hair’s identity crisis. It doesn’t want to be defined or shaped as anything other than an 80s fro no matter what I do to it. Give me a black beret and turtleneck, and I’d be mistaken for a Black Panther :/
Good problems lol
Have you tried a twist out?
Same sis. Same. ☺️
Nichole Hale
I’ve been growing my natural hair for more than a year, but I got the relaxed ends cut off in early July...well, most of them. The hairdresser understandably missed a few.
Nichole Hale At this point, I’m open to anything! I haven’t tried using heat or any serious hair masks yet, so I guess that’s next on the list. Thanks for the advice!
I didn't know what my real hair looked like until a year ago. Watching starpuppy has helped me in my journey 😍💕 Love the hair and earings btw 😁
I hope you’re page is monetized because I been sitting through the ads to support you. You’re worth it, and I thank you for your energy!
Lol the twist OUT part had me 😂😂😂..It’s true though.4c hair is definitely unique and different.I love it!
I'm glad your wash n go journey has had a positive effect on your love of your hair! It's been lovely watching your grow into (recognizing) your own dang beauty!
Just an observation. The past few videos, with the exception of podcasts, have all been the same thing but the titles rearranged.
I know 😆😆 I used to enjoy these videos and now wondering how many she will continue to make in such a short period of time. Let me stop complaining since I guess I did click 🤷🏾♀️
Nothing wrong with reassurance🤷🏾♀️
@@patb2582 I unsubscribed because of her negativity but the videos still pop up in my recommendations. Reading the comments is very sad. Lots of women and girls complaining and berating their 4c hair. She herself is profiting of this. Disgusting.
She's allowed to make as many of these videos as she can until she gets better. If you're gonna complain about someone talking about how they feel, please leave.
@sedsa097 Leave, we dont want you hear.
I didn’t even start the video but I have to say: Fluffnugget + hat is an amazing look! I’ve been not wearing hats because I’d think that my fro would look weird in it, but you boosted my confidence. Thanks for being you, Danielle 💕
star puppy bites therefore I press the like button
Also oh my gosh watching your self love /hair love grow and blossom through all your videos is so amazing and proves there is good in the world so thank you Danielle
I love the weirdness 😍. Hell yeah! It's why I keep coming back.
girl! youre so well spoken and put things so beautifully. that point about familiarity is so true! thats why we need to be represented.
I will get carded more with my hair in it's natural state (it's schmedium) than I do with my long weaves. Short hair makes me look younger.
Your hair is awesome and your confidence is radiating. I know was a journey.
Snow White has short hair.
Snow White is.....well white
@@chas353 I don't think she said anything about race in reference to short hair.
@@leilanidru7506 agreed wholeheartedly
Not a field slave so not okay 😐. Your hair was probably beautiful and his warped white washed western standards of beauty had him thinking otherwise. SMH healthy hair is beautiful no matter the length.
You are beautiful the way GOD made you and your hair is flourishing ❤️🙏🏽
FIELD SLAVE...!? Wow.... people are so incredibly rude.... I'm sorry that happened to you...
Side note: you are insanely beautiful!! I love your hair, and this look is absolutely adorable and classy!
Hey star puppy I love everything you do also I’m 11 years old so I’m one of your younger subscribers third one
Third one
You are too young to be on this channel. It has become very negative and will plant seeds of self-doubt in your mind. Trust me.
Hey you need to stop being petty cause nobody asked you sed
Exactlyyyyy be your own definition of beauty !!!! Be ur own muse 💕
I’m so happy you are here repping for the true 4C!!!!! ❣️
Hey Starpuppy fluffnuget is looking good!!!!
You hair is looking really thick and luscious these days 😍😍
It’s the “John Smith BEFORE I KNEW THE HISTORYYYY” for me 💀😂🤣😂. I’m from VA, so it hit different. 🤣🤣🤣
Fluff nugget is looking marvelous today!
Like your styles. Hair, hat and skin. Always looking gorgeous. .
Loving the boho chic look today 😍😍
I like the shape, I actually think that length looks beautiful on her but is hard to say because she is beautiful regardlessly.
Absolutely love your honesty....is helping me cope with my hair.
Btw you look radiant....
Yep, I totally get where you're coming from. I have very high density, tiny coils/kinks, with mostly coarse strands. I found @iamblackgirlcurls early last year and ended my product chasing/ hair dysmorphia. I have a shape cut into my hair, so whether its defined or an afro, it has some rhyme or reason. The images of "4c" hair these stylists display on their IG accounts are stunning 😄. They put everything into context while challenging you to question why you see yourself in a certain way and why you do things to you do to your hair. I'm glad you're in a happier, healthier mindset about your hair. Have a blessed weekend ☺️
It'd be a "tss out"😂😂 you better stop before I throw my shoe at you!
Thank you for the 80%... I've missed that 😊
I used to wear my TWI-outs and ya know...look like Kendrick Lamar when he his locs were budding. It helped me get used to having my hands up in my air so I wouldn't get tired easily (ya know, how people complain that their arms get tired when they do bantu knots and whatnot)
OMG you finally said 80% shrinkage!!! O.G HERE :) hhahah i got so excited that i repeated those words with you! Also Cinderella and Snow white both bad short hair :) You are so beautiful and love your energy.. keep going babygirl
You are so open & honest. #Self Love
I grew up hating my natural 4c/4b hair and I ruined it with perms and relaxers. My mom had did the same thing. Im glad ive found love for my hair and im about a year without perms and im finally learning about how to care for it. Its tough but im determined and this quarantine gives me alot of time. I love your channel!
At this point I just want my hair to be healthy, short, long, medium idc
I just want to say you have helped me gain confidence in my hair! My hair is exactly like yours--thin, low porosity, and very 4c, and Its so refreshing to see someone else with hair like mine because I dont see mine anywhere on the media. I used to neglect my hair growing up and experienced a ot of breakage because I wasn't taught how to care for my hair.
Ur hair looks very beachy and laid back like this. I love it 😍
Have you tried blowing out your hair and then twisting it? Because that does wonders. Also for fuller looks my friend does extensions so that's always an option! I get your struggle. I have fine 4c hair also and giirrrrlll it's a pain.
You look so beautiful and your skin is beautiful
How is it every long hair animated man you named was in my catalogue of childhood crushes?! KOCOUM WAS BAE. And don't forget Sesshomaru.
So when are you going to sell all these different beautiful earrings. This a new "twist" starpuppy in ear rings
EIGHTYYYYYYY PERCEEEEENTTTTTT!!
Honestly I know you want longer hair but your hair looks so stunning and thick at this length ❤️
In every video, you have the most beautiful earrings on😍🔥🔥
I can relate sis my twist outs are are non exisistent
