Can't believe Singapore Airlines retiring the 747 Boeing 5 years earlier than the 747 Boeing in the USA. Singapore Airlines is truly the pioneer in airlines industries....
Without the 747, I don't really want to fly anywhere anymore. I used to fly twice a year round the world up until 2011. Now flying is a chore. I'll just stay home now :) goodbye 747, you made travelling an experience!
I actually dreamt that I flew on a Singapore Airlines B747-400 to Australia with my parents not too long ago, even though I knew that SQ retired these legends back in 2012 way before I had that dream :'')
Singapore Airshow, 2012. I was 9 years old at the time. I saw the SQ Boeing 747-400 that was parked at the corner of the air show, and I didn’t understand why it was there. It did surprise me that an ordinary aircraft like this was parked at an airshow and I thought i could go on it. Nope, the tours were all fully booked that day. I didn’t think much about it. I did get a bit upset and annoyed that I couldn’t go on it. Now 12 years later, I realised that it was the first domino to topple, marking the first demise of the Boeing 747, which is just an absolutely beautiful plane which deserves to still be flying. The SQ livery looks extremely stunning on the Boeing 747-400, more so than any aircraft. Now reflecting on that time that I saw the plane, I realised that I had taken too much for granted, and that I should’ve appreciated the SQ 747-400 more. It’s a genuine shame that they chose to be the first to retire the -400.
The Singapore livery makes 747 400 look like an old plane. I like how Singapore showed A380 at the end giving a big punch to boeing in the face hahaha.
I’d love to fly on one as a passenger though… I don’t want to have to think that I took my last Boeing 747-400 flight for granted - not even realising that it would be my last flight a Thai airways Boeing 747.
The 747 may be the "Queen of the Skies," but I think its great that SIA still has the 777 in its fleet, a "crown princess" in Boeing's "royal family" of airliners, so to speak. And it's also great that soon SIA will be a launch customer for another new Boeing aircraft, a new "crown princess" in the 787-10 Dreamliner.
And 2020 has ended more 747 and A380 their existence thanks to Covid-19..it has been a very dark and outmost terrible year for all. May 2021 be a light to a new start to mankind..
Not really. Singapore just returned its first ever A380 once the lease expired. Think about it, a 20 year jet returned after only 10 years. Matter of fact, the entire A380 project could be cancelled soon since there have been no new orders in over two years.
Flew many times on the SIA B747 400 Mega Tops between SIN-TPE/NRT-LAX in the past. The upper deck business class provided an exclusive space to rest and work.
In my understanding, the 747-4s should have been maintained and upgraded to 747-8s since they're cheaper to operate and maintain than expensive Jet A1 gas guzzling A380s. Fare thee well for now but I always like Singapore Airlines and Singapore
Visvesh Narayan they are both gas guzzler, today a380 is more efficient co'z of the additional 100+ seats. dont compare it to the 747-8, the airbus a380 is compared to the boeing 747, 747-200,747-400.
Lujitak Revue Airbus a380 is not yet to be called due to the total numbers flying in service is 200 while the Boeing 747-400 is 694(passenger and cargo[retired and currently flying], the 747-8 is not included)
nope, for me its not fair. you can not even compare the a340-600 to the b747-400 coz there is no comparison with them. the best way to conduct the gas guzzlers is the first boeing built(747) to the first airbus built(a380). the 787-8 must compared and wait for the a380 NEO(if the company is goin to upgrade the current a380 with less fuel consumption)
Also 747 400 models are not environmentally friendly talking about the materials the model is made of. They are made from aluminium. The newer aircrafts are made from carbon which is better for the environment. However some airlines have designed a replica of the 747 400, which is the 747-8.
I’ll never fly Singapore Airlines again!!!!! They have no customer service. I flew them last September Seattle to Bangkok. I’m sure that BudgetAir never mentioned to SA that I was due a free change because of SA canceling a portion of my return ticket and changing it on their own. They also didn’t tell SA that I was changing my flight because my brother had died. Because I had no more time to waste before going back, I found and bought a ticket on Qatar Airlines for $620.00. It has been 7 months since I got home and I have been in email communication weekly with Singapore Airlines and BudgetAir to get a refund. They keep changing what’s required for a refund. They first told me that I needed the death certificate and obituary. They changed that to add mine and my brother’s birth certificate, listing a common mother and father. I am in the process of filing complaints with every government agency in the U.S. and Singapore and am suing for $620.00, the amount of the ticket that I was forced to buy.
