The only thing I would have liked this animation to do would have been to start with the actual reprise from Episode 3 and then transition to the animation after the rocket fails to launch before similarly transitioning back to the final surviving clip of the regeneration.
Yeah, while Planet 55 did a great job with the animation on Episode 4, including the regeneration itself, I do also find it kind of a shame they animated the regeneration when the actual footage survives.
@@LordColondy there's nothing wrong with the regeneration sequence itself. The preceding footage is low quality, having been shot on 8mm. It might be possible to enhance it significantly these days (there examples of other 8mm footage that's been cleaned up and looks great) although in this case the strobing lights might make that very difficult.
@@jjc5407 I think the regeneration scene is still in slightly lower quality (higher than the telerecordings, of course) than it would have been if ep. 4 still existed.
@@LordColondy well yes, if the original video tapes hadn't been wiped all the 1960s footage would be higher quality. 😃It survived in the Blue Peter episode that is itself a 16mm recording so there may be some further downgrade from being a 16mm recording of a 16mm film excerpt, but even if that is the case the Restoration Team have the tools to enhance it further if a Season 4 Blu Ray set eventually gets a release. If it does then, as I said originally, I'd love to see a version of the episode that transitions from the live action reprise into the animation and then back from the animation to the live action regeneration. Better still I'd like to see the actual episode recovered of course, but I'm not holding out hope for that!
@@AndrewChapman I think they animated the last scene first as an experiment, and even though both scenes still exist, it would be a bit weird to not animate them in my opinion.
Unlike quite a few of the missing episodes animations, this one is top notch. It remains as faithful as possible to the original broadcast based on the surviving footage and telesnaps, unlike the more recent ones which have been pointlessly made in widescreen and colour and where the animators have taken considerable 'creative' liberties as if they know better than the original programme-makers or consider their efforts inadequate because of the time and budget they had to work with. Furthermore, they've even animated episodes that actually exist! Why would anyone want to watch those? Why watch an animation when you can see the wonderful performances from the likes of Hartnell and Troughton?
Loose Cannon seemed to use certain tele-snaps which the VHS recon didn't use at all. Like at 1:53, 2:02 and 2:19. Never saw any of these in the VHS recon.
We have the first regeneration thanks to blue Peter

@Andrew Chapman the regeneration scene isn't in as good quality as the previous episodes

excellent work.
I would love to have a high quality version of sounds the TARDIS is making just before the regeneration
I really like how Planet 55 pretty much rotoscoped the surviving footage
I'd prefer the animation because it's difficult to get into the reconstruction
True, only thing is though it excludes the surviving clips, particularly the regeneration at the end, in favour of animated versions.

Oh, they’ve animated episodes that actually exist? Name one.

I like the animation
A few years from now they'll do a reconstruction of this with deep fakes.
cool
Are these the same people who did that doctor who anime?
@@terminatorplayz4614 no
I think I heard that some of the people who worked on this animation also worked on Doctor Who Anime
