Chalet was such a good map. Watching this video is giving me a stroke because I just started playing again after a few years and I did not realize how much changed in the reworks 😭
The maps looked so much better, some played better too. I’m afraid that Siege is just too far in the wrong direction for it to ever feel anything like this again. Imagine peeking the second floor window with the shades nowadays, you’d be instant headshot. I miss when I could be creative and not get headshot the moment I peek anything, when gunfights existed.
Chalet night, iconic. I stopped playing around when outback came out and just got back in, and its still fun but the atmosphere of old maps cannot compare. I feel like old siege more fun because it wasn't about optimized strategies or pro league. It was a hardcore battle of wits that was fun to play around in, even if you were bad
Old maps had so much style and details, it actually feels like an attack stopped in time. Rather nowadays it's just like 3 pieces of furniture in a room
Old maps were more atmospheric, in general....and nighttime brought out some of their personalities (like, I feel I could spend the night in Christmas Kafe). That said, I think there's a lot of rose tinted nostalgia here. A lot of these old maps just didn't make for good flow and you could easily get stuck if you played it wrong. A good philosophy would be to understand a good map as divided by 3x3 sectors, maybe 3x3x3 if you have three floors. It's why Coastline, Oregon, Bank, Kafe, Chalet are well liked. For future map designs, this needs to be understood so as to create flow but there also needs to be more attention towards atmosphere, too. It makes little sense to have all these cramped and boxed in areas like with the Consulate rework. There should also be room for large chambers and long hallways so that different strategies are needed. I think that would bring back some of the old feelings but without losing the balance of the reworks.
old house, favela, bartlett and hereford were pure fun, sometimes you need a chaotic map in your game... everything doesnt need to be proleague and competitive focused... we still got the plane :))
old siege was made to fit a certain feeling, never was it meant to be balanced, neither is a real life CQB operation, nothing is balanced, it was following a certain feeling and motive, and it was casually competitive, its so sad to see all of it butchered for competitive pro league and for a shittier story in place of the old one...
The reworks were never supposed to make old maps "better" they were supposed to make them "competitively viable". That's why they feel soulless and fake, everything looks like it's made out of plastic, by removing the clutter, downgrading the lighting system and maxing out the brightness they can finally push them to the ranked/pro League map pool...then take them out eventually and leave them to rot in casual.
was a fan of siege back in the days but i just got to finally play it in year 9 and i was literally confused like wtf happen, it look so different and for the worse
I get why night modes got tossed, but most of the reworks contributed to the tdm meta or failed to fix issues. The soft reworks were perfectly fine and should have been the go to, not butchering existing maps. Clubhouse was an improvement, and adding sky bridge to kanal wascorrect, but generally they Judy added more space and divided the maps up into more rooms while also lowering the timer for attackers. It gives them more they have to clear out and less time to do it, in tighter spaces that significantly reduce the range advantage of the ARs and DMRs. There's a whole discussion about how the made the tdm meta worse but I'll just focus on the maps more. Long angles are pretty gone from all the maps now. Look at how easy it was to get into the building AND be able to sweep and clear. Now, you have to deal with 180° of angles for every room you push into multiple times, forcing the meta into requiring you to just run and Flick around, hoping for the best and hyper focusing on your gunplay because it's the only thing that's going to work on these maps. Skyscraper especially gave attackers far more options to actually get into the building or cut off control, now it forces you into the worst death traps. Themepark took some of the worst issues in the game and just EXTENDED the tools defense had. I'd take those horrible trains back for sure over what we have and that awful throne room site. Oregon needed freezer extension but that's it, elbow is so problematic now and shuts down any kind of attack if the defense is mildly competent. House rework isn't bad IF it was actually put into ranked. Why make a map less fun to be more competitively viable just to never put it into ranked? Consulate took away all of attacks options and is just a cramped maze of corners and awkward entrances. By far the biggest downgrade, there's a reason why it was the last ranked map of the original to get changed. That needs to be reverted. Kafe is mediocre but it kind of always was, still feels super awkward to push in. Chalet isn't bad but for sure was just a straight buff the defense on all sites. The general theme seemed to be to just add more space and more rooms to make the game feel more cramped and extremely difficult to attacks.
While I agree that visuals used to be better on the old maps, in terms of layout and design I definitely have to disagree that most of the old maps are better. Imo the only maps they absolutely ruined with the rework are House and Consulate. Especially have to disagree with Oregon and Chalet old versions being better. Oregon really didn't change that much as well and pretty much all of the changes were for the better, except the visuals again and changing the Tower bombsite was kind of unnecessary. Old Chalet though just felt unbearable to play with how unbalanced it was. Whilst visuals are nice, and night maps especially, overall gameplay is just more important imo, which is why I think pretty much all the reworks are better. Although I definitely wouldn't mind playing some of the old maps again, maybe in a separate playlist for just old maps.
honestly I played a lot of old oregon and from the outside it is similar, but I recently played older versions of siege and it felt COMPLETELY different compared to now. old oregon is WAY more fun, but new oregon is extremely well balanced and competitively good.
@@thepurpleemu Oregon used to be my favourite map. Cant say that anymore. In my opinion its way worse, even though it might be more balanced. It just feels boring for some reason
Fully agreed. Reworks really helped maps like Clubhouse, Oregon, Chalet, Bank, Kanal, and Border... But some of the reworks like Consulate, House, or Hereford they have just ruined. I think to balance a lot of maps they just add an obscene number of rooms (Consulate rework, Lair, Labs) but it's such a lazy way to balance attack/defense. They all immediately become un-intuitive because the layout is so unrealistic and boring. People have the most fun on unique sites like basement of old House, Trophy of old Chalet, or anything on Plane and most maps lack that bit of chaos which made original siege so great. All that said, many people are very blinded by nostalgia if you think *all* reworks are worse.
i can’t believe how much the maps have changed and i wish they brought back night time maps what was wrong with them? and also how come the graphics and performance were better on old siege i don’t understand that
Wow, this makes me miss the good ole days. These maps were so much more fun and nostalgic. I agree with everyone saying they felt real unlike today’s maps.
I understand not having night maps for ranked for gameplay reasons but for causal and custom games it adds more life to the maps. Keeping the old version of maps in game would be great for customs.
You’re not even wrong. Completely removing textures for a map that isn’t played saves on memory. Reworks reuse a lot of assets because Ubisoft wanted a 50Gb download for some reason
I started playing in Solar Raid, today I was curious and decided to check out old siege. This video gave me a feeling of nostalgia for something ive never experienced, truly Ubisoft has butchered siege. Love the content btw
That’s interesting. I think the background music I’m using has a big part in the nostalgia too. I’m using old Themes from really early versions of siege. Check out my recent “menu theme” video and you’ll see what I’m talking about. 👍
@@NotRockstarGames I'm actually watching it rn, it's just a breath of fresh air to see and hear what my favorite game was like back in year 1, it's older seasons had maps and music that really makes it feel like a game that was built with care and genuine love for it. I wish it would come back.
Hi there Siege agents.. what I nice video, brings me back to 2015-16 so much sun and laugh, today is toxic not fun anymore. But I have to give big credits for this video. You add the music theme of each season too. Well done for your job from a old man 😂
Has anyone pointed out that ever new siege map HAS to resemble a square when you are looking down onto the map? I think it has to do with how small hallways had an effect on the match... every building is too squarical now, Favella was more long than it was wide, which helped set it apart from other maps, along with its fouus on vertical exterior combat. Maps like that are what set siege apart, by utilizing the rappel mechanic and the destruction physics, which you almost never see in games today. The maps today are lacking in destructibility, all to focus on one set way to play the game: competitive. The maps just arent creative anymore, along with the soundtrack and dark/gritty lighting. :(
The maps have been redesigned specifically to add verticality and destruction being important. What you're witnessing is the playerbase has dumbed down the gameplay to the point of a run n gun shooter. Pro play still has the tactical elements.
Kanal is a lil bit glitchy, i had a bug.

@@thepurpleemuhow do you even play old versions 😮😮
@@dankim7831porting old versions just look it up
Fully agreed.
Old maps was so much realistic, competitive ruin the game astetic
i can’t believe how much the maps have changed and i wish they brought back night time maps what was wrong with them? and also how come the graphics and performance were better on old siege i don’t understand that
All remakes broke the game 😢
broke?
Wait these maps are so alive and filled with horror please bring them back
Who remembers playing the tutorial on old hereson base
night maps felt so crazy
Old siege map was so realistic
Wow, this makes me miss the good ole days. These maps were so much more fun and nostalgic. I agree with everyone saying they felt real unlike today’s maps.
I miss old Siege so badly its insane. I loved and adored this game for year's starting in 2017 till about 2020. I wish they never changed it.
I agree old Hereford. Lot of memories of that place ! Also old Consulate. Would be nice to play it again
The siege narrator is telling how he really feels lol
Deadass old house was DEFINITELY BETTER
I understand not having night maps for ranked for gameplay reasons but for causal and custom games it adds more life to the maps. Keeping the old version of maps in game would be great for customs.
11:03 Garden was SO BEAUTIFUL! My lord i miss it!
I feel like half these reworks were to just remove unique textures and sounds
I miss 2 speed sledge with SMG-11
Hi there Siege agents.. what I nice video, brings me back to 2015-16 so much sun and laugh, today is toxic not fun anymore. But I have to give big credits for this video. You add the music theme of each season too. Well done for your job from a old man 😂
They need go add these maps to the normal playlist. I get what they did for ranked... But this could easily be fine in norms 💯
why is the game so much more realistic back then
Damn. What a nostalgia trip.
I still go back and play old siege just to have fun on T-Hunt
How?

The memories i have with these maps….Good old times with the boys
Why the game looked so good before…
Has anyone pointed out that ever new siege map HAS to resemble a square when you are looking down onto the map?
Ahh man now youve made me cry for real
I never cry but aftet all those years of playing siege
This video has made me cry
Siege now is like cod but without resisting a lot
Actually it's not like cod still
