A tip if you don’t have an injector scanner is to slowly rev the truck up to about 2500 rpm then let off and watch the rpm gauge. If it goes down smooth the injectors are ok but if it goes down then bounces back up a little that means one or more of the injectors aren’t firing correctly

What if you rev it and the rev hangs a little after you let go of the pedal then idles down. With my truck it hangs the rev for a sec or 2 then drops down. Other trucks don’t do that. I heard it was tuning. What you think?

You guys made a comment on the lly not having a 6speed trans. It's still the allison 1000 that's in the lbz just not the same tcm or valve body. They make a conversation kit for it to make the lly a 6 speed.

I used to get the work truck 2500hd single cabs 4x4lbz for $6-$8 k. Rebuild the motor and stick them in hummers, Then put the hummer 6.0 motors back in the 2500hd sell for $5-$6 k. lmm and the lbz are 99% identical. i have personally an lmm 2500 late 07 and my duramax h3 lbz build.I love duramax motors.

I might potentially have the opportunity to get a really nice LB7 duramax with a massive cognito lift and American Force wheels and 40" tires. But I'd have to trade my Camaro and I don't really want to part with it, but I've always wanted a lifted diesel. The struggle is real

I heard, it's not a bad idea to go for higher mileage trucks. Cuz, odds are. Everything that could have broken, Has already been fixed. Kindof makes sense.

How good are the lm7's?
Best way to check injector rates is to put it in drive and hold the wheels cranked all the way one direction. Sounds weird but it’s true
Dumb and unnecessary. There is a more accurate and better way of doing it which involves calculating your CFR with injector balance rates.

I wouldnt be so quick to write off the other engine models. I own an LML not deleted.. yet! So far in towing specs it can pull some serious weight at 157K MI in the northern state of MI I am thoroughly impressed! It's also my daily driver. Also a dually sounds amazing until you got to replace tires and see your bill also more tires equals a slight dip in fuel mileage!

@@JWMontoya This my friend is true mine is a 2011 and I got it for 21K with 130K on it. Either way i hope matt finds what hes looking for. Might have some decent luck up here in the northern parts I know its the rust belt but you'd be surprised at how many trucks I see rust free that roll in the heavy cold salted winters up here. For those who buy southern vehicles, be forewarned, the thing may not have rust, but… it’s got no paint from sand and will rust quickly. The auto transmission will fail, the bands and seals 🦭 brittle, as soon as you get back east. All the rubber is burned out and the glass is cracked the engine is cooked and has over a quarter inch of baked on sludge.
Definitely a giveaway, I need one for my LBZ😩

You are checking injector balance rates the wrong way. When i was in the market for duramax trucks, I would bring my laptop with tech2win. I've seen, injectors with -/+ 1 or 2 balance rates, but it means NOTHING without calculating the CFR. I've seen cfr drop as low as 3mm3 from 7mm3. I've seen good balance rate injectors actually be way of spec once you factor in ur fuel rate. Also having the AC running with drastically change your balance rates and will give you a false readings of good balance rates.

I know this is a older video but you guys clearly had no idea what you were talking about.. GM recommends +4/-4 is acceptable on injector rates. That truck seemed perfectly healthy
That truck wasn’t healthy. I got the full story from the guy who returned that truck after he was lied to.
I’m going to have to agree man, Duramax rebuilds are beyond simple in the worst case scenarios. A fuel problem isn’t much, the only thing I’d turn away from in a broken crank.

@@richardturner7560 this is true. People drove the price way up. I own an lly, built motor, so to me owning an lbz is pointless cause i have a solid truck. But i only paid 8k and put into it to make it how i wanted it. But i see some guys with trash trying to get 15k 20k and it aint right. I got lucky my truck was clean in out and around. But people will pay top dollar for junk nowadays.

I got a rust free southern Cummins with practically everything that I was going to put on it already on the truck for 24k. I got tired of the morons that thought their lbz with 180k miles was worth 24k.

LMM is far superior with a quick flash and a chop of the exhaust.. also, you need to get the truck to full temp to check balance rates..

That truck might not be worth 19 to you, but it's worth it to somebody. It might of been weeks, or perhaps months, but I bet that truck is gone. I hear it all the time "this isn't worth that, it's only worth this amount, I'm doing you a favor!" Yeah, I just tell them to move along, somebody else will get it, and I've never been wrong yet.
Hate to tell you that you’re wrong but you are… this truck wasn’t returned due to financial reasons like the dealer said. It came back bc the dealer lied about all the issues it had. Definitely not worth $19k with all the mechanical failures. I’m sure someone else will come and get it and get screwed, but doesn’t mean it was worth it. They’ll regret every moment of it when they have to dump more money into it
