I just did my LLY look up Allison relean procedure follow it ! 4 key cycles like Duramax tuner says doesn't work. It takes more mine is butter smooth now. I also switched to Mobil delvac 1 trans fluid as per my local Allison dealer .
My first duramax being an lly, i actually didnt know about the different rpo codes. When i learned all that and did all the work to my truck, im at a point now where my truck isnt an lly or an lbz. Since the tuning is different, with a built motor and trans the only thing keeping it an lly is having a ficm. Aside from that its built better then any of the rpo code trucks. I thought about doing the conversion but i dont drive it enough to warrant the cost. Maybe in a few years for something new to upgrade i might consider it. But for now i havent even had a chance to enjoy it, and i still have to swap in the built motor. This summer is going to be insane for my truck. Lol
Thanks for the the content, have had that conversation kit sitting on the self for almost 2 yrs and no time to complete. watching you do it on the ground and simplicity of it just removed the excuse of time. thanks
The hard shifting is because of changing the internal filter always happens when you do that .I'm waiting on my kit to arrive. My trans was flushed and filled 20k ago so I will capture and reuse my fluid. And you should change to Transyn 668 or a synthetic dex 3 fluid it's better for the Alison 1000 you have in the truck, using generic dex 6 is not good for earlier transmissions , it makes the seals hard and it will leak eventually.
Thanks now I have to get it for my lly have a full build going on dark blue paint with illusion purple hsp high flow bundle rds 66mm guess now a 6 speed conversion
7:22 funny you mentioned that I put a BDS 4.5 " coilover conversion on 2005 LLY .. went to change the oil and I had so much room to access the filter it was great , like you said that torsion bar does get in away lots
I don't understand how swapping the valve body will get you a 6th gear. Did those transmissions all come with 6 gears and the older trucks just had a valve body that only shifts into 5th?
Now that you have double overdrive, it's exactly like an LBZ. You know, except for the smaller radiator, smaller fan and clutch, different water pump and front cover, FICM, AL5 TCM, reduced line pressure during lockup, etc. But exactly the same!
Hey Jw, long time follower been here since the lml and loved that truck and really really love your l5P. I have a question, will you be able to go down to Orange beach invasion in orange beach Al. If so i would love to meet you since i cant go to Daytona. Love your content and keep it up
wait im confused you dont have to like completly trany swap it you just throw a part or two in because if so i need to do this asap and what tuner do you have?
How did you end up feeling about the worth of doing this 6 speed conversion over time at least till you did the giveaway? I'm debating on doing this upgrade myself while doing a built transmission.
When i did a new lml toque converter in my lbz got the same range shift inhibited and the flashing gear, woundnt move. I freaked out. Cleared turned on and off and started working
Not sure why you would want To do that, you're supposed to take a motto of a Kodiak or a top kick. Because they throw more fluid... You really don't even do anything there
@JW Montoya well that's what I thought based off research, but my understanding is if there's a 'd' in the Vin it's a true lbz, if not it's a lly. I was just hoping mine had the 6th gear/ valve body. It looks like the increase in mpg is negligible for the price. I've been watching all your videos non stop as I just bought a lly a few days ago, picking it up in a few weeks. Cheers!
Hey jw, what state u from. U do good work,i do mine outside on ground, lol. I need to get so much done right now on my lbz its -4 and snow on ground,so i cant.
Is there anyway to shut the cts3 off. It turns the screen off when i leave the truck but if you tap it it comes right back on so it kinda stays on in the background even with the key not in the ignition. It drains my battery though which the cts2 did not do because it shut off completely i believe.
So are you not willing to sell the TCM... If the core charging to pricey I'm willing to pay that and a little more but I've been looking for one and just don't want to be overcharged s***'s expensive these days and it sucks to get taxed
Ig I got no idea how a tranny works because I thought the gears were in clutch packs or something like that idk how tf swapping a valve body will add a gear does this mean I can make a 4l80 a 6l80
I recently installed an HSP intake and turbo mouthpiece on my LLY. And ever since I’ve had an extreme dead pedal. Has anyone out there ever experienced the same problem?
@@JWMontoya I actually watched your video when you installed your HSP intake and had the exact same reaction. I turned it around and then improved a little bit. I thought maybe I somehow broke the MAF sensor so I purchased a new one And I installed it, still no improvement.
Dude I have a 05 lly. I put on the hsp intake, mouthpiece, intercooler pipes. Dead pedal bad. I cleaned the maf, seemed to help but then it started doing it again. Bought a dry filter and got the cover sleeve thing for it. Still the same. Replaced the pedal. Eventually got the truck tuned to my build specifically and it fixed the problem. I did some work to the turbo also so I didn’t know if it wasn’t getting the right amount of air or whatever. But yeah tuning definitely fixed my issue.
You don’t get enough views/ likes. Definitely deserve more.. but hey, I love your content.. better to have fewer that love your content than a lot that don’t but like it anyways
Was going to do that to my LLY. But I have talked to a great transmission guy that had done these and he has not had good luck with them and does not suggest them. He said they never really shift right and had to take them back out. And if you own a Duramax you know who this guy is. Curious to see how it comes out for you. Bc I know you know that guy that told me that. So I just went with a normal built transmission for my LLY
You’re supposed to clear codes with the truck off and the key in the acc position.. especially a code of that nature.. this dude literally knows nothing about his truck.. probably almost forgot to fill the trans back up
Yup, definitely getting this conversion for my LLY. Yes, please more LLY content!

It doesn't changed all my filters at 20k after stage 4 build jusy to be safe snd it didn't hard shift at all

Thank you I'm gonna do the same thing to my LLY I didn't even know that was possible So thank you for that information and please keep Posting On LL Y
Looks good. Definitely something I would do if I owned a truck like this.
1:40 try an 8hr drive with a 2nd gen cummins with an axle dump.
Looks like an easy upgrade. Did the instrument cluster show that you have 6 gears? Just curious. Have you thought of installing the Tap Shifter?
The calibrated power conversion will show 6th on a cts2 and works with the tap shifters
Great vlog and how-to tutorial JW!
Getting this kit for my LB7
Thank you I was thinking about doing the same thing
7:22 funny you mentioned that I put a BDS 4.5 " coilover conversion on 2005 LLY .. went to change the oil and I had so much room to access the filter it was great , like you said that torsion bar does get in away lots
How much did your BDS lift cost? I plan on getting one because 4.5 is the perfect height
What if you do this 6 speed conversion and the fleece tap shifter, and LBZ cluster? I wonder how that would work
I believe it works from what I’ve heard
That’s cool something I might consider if I keep my lly
I don't understand how swapping the valve body will get you a 6th gear. Did those transmissions all come with 6 gears and the older trucks just had a valve body that only shifts into 5th?
Yes they came with all the hard parts but not the 6th gear
Nice. Yall got some clean duramaxes. Also noticed that swuarebody chevy in front of ur house. Love them trucks too

How’s it holding up?
Did you not change the gear stick out so you can select gears .
I have a LLY ZF6 manual transmission

Planning on rebuilding the LLY 👀
Yoooo can you post a video or do you have one for that red wiring harness ??
Which duramax is best lly, lbz or lmm? What is considered high mileage on these trucks?
My LBZ at 70 towing 11k is about 1700 RPMs. I believe yours is high due to tires, mine is stock. But this was cool.
Hey I love the truck… where can I get the rad support baffle at ?
Awesome video man. Great comparison as well!! I'm sold .. going to try get this done before the end of summer
Great video. I have an 03 duramax do you know if I can buy the kit to change mine to a 6-speed thanks
Yes lbz is the best durmax engine
At the time of filming, what was the costs fo this upgrade?
Can I do this to my lb7?
Oh man I’m definitely going to be doing the conversion on mine
How do you get another gear by swapping the valve body??? That don't make sense.
How did you end up feeling about the worth of doing this 6 speed conversion over time at least till you did the giveaway? I'm debating on doing this upgrade myself while doing a built transmission.

Thanks you for the video I have been curious about this upgrade since I bought my lly. I’m definitely gonna do it I do a lot of highway driving.
Been waiting on this heck yeah, I really need to get rid of my 48re in my dodge 😂
what’s the turbo setup?
The lly duramax is the best engine ever created
what is the link for this?
Looking into getting an lly but the one I’m looking at has 270k miles would really like your opinion
What are the parts needed
weren't there a few 06's with 6 speeds? thought based on the shifter with the m and 1 option that's indicative of having the 6 speed?
06 “LLY” is a detuned LBZ. You couldn’t use LLY parts as it’s physically an LBZ
Cheers!
Whats the total cost and where did you go for the parts
It’s about $1800 if you send them your old parts first and about $2200 with the core charge
I have 6 speed Allison in a 05 lly
This video made me find the product and buy it. I am about to put it in tomorrow wish me luck.
What psi do you run your tires at brother
What is that thing on your window that your touching ?
interesting since the new valve body is an lml style
Hey jw, what state u from. U do good work,i do mine outside on ground, lol. I need to get so much done right now on my lbz its -4 and snow on ground,so i cant.
I would love to buy the conversion kit especially because I haul it fifth wheel but s***'s expensive
Jw I have a question on the tow pig the 15 lol which tuner did you use ez Linx or ego live thanks
We did both. Check out the Dually playlist!
so wheres the link for the parts ???
You should have done the trans go jr before installing the new valve body.
They don’t have a kit for the new style valve body.
My trans just shit the bed getting a DT550 with the 6 speed conversion.
So what of you have a 06 lly with the 6speed stock?
No, 06 is an LBZ. Mines an 05
@@JWMontoya thats odd because the truck is titled as a 06 and has lly in the rpo its build date is 08/05
When they built the lbz they hadn’t got emissions approval so the programmed it with lly software .
Cruising down Columbia road?
Can you do this to a lb7
Yup!
😂😂 I used to run a lifted LBZ, and I can relate w then torsion bars being public enemy #1 hahaha
Have experience with different generations of duramax. You can't go wrong with LLY
Cant clear DTC while the truck is running, ignition has to be on but not running. Sweet upgrade though congrats !
I also tried on run position but wouldn’t clear until I started the truck about 6 times
Is it Possible to Install a Turbine Engine On your "Fresh" Duramax and Have it Sound Like a Jet Engine ?.....
Is there anyway to shut the cts3 off. It turns the screen off when i leave the truck but if you tap it it comes right back on so it kinda stays on in the background even with the key not in the ignition. It drains my battery though which the cts2 did not do because it shut off completely i believe.
Give Edge a call. They may have a patch for it
🤣bout time you brought the LLY out!!!!
She’s gonna stay out now!
more LLY content heck ya !

LLY is the goat
What turbo is that ?
RDS 64mm
You should have thrown in a trans go jr in it while you had the valve body dropped
What is the trans go jr?

Get your maf rescaled, I know they say you don't have to but you should read 38 to 40 at idle and 450 plus WOT

BIG TROK GO BRRRRRRR TUTUTUTUTU
That’s how my built trans shifts

@@JWMontoya Ofc!!🤝
Would you sell me your tcm... I have a 2005 Silverado and I'm really in need of one
I don't mind my 5sp at all. Sure 6speed be better. Especially with fuel prices now. But..... Lotta coin!!!!
I liked it better stock haha
My lb7 runs around 2500 rpm at 80 mph why tho ?
4.10 gears. Same problem
Yeep same thing here
I don’t understand how replacing the valve body added a gear that blows my mind
Look up Allison 1000 how it works on TH-cam doesn’t actually have gears uses different set of planetary gear sets for the gears
Ik I thought the same thing its the strangest thing
Mind blown for me too
Is your trans built??
Not that I know of

Little misleading, as you didn’t turn it into an LBZ.. it’s not even a late model 06 Lly lol.
All you did was add a valve body.
LB7 is a 4 speed.
seems way overpriced imo. love to have it, but 2k is kinda a fat chunk.
Good video but still not a LBZ
Good looking LLY Duramax. Be careful with that LLY engine. It could be problematic.
What? Lol
No, cause it’s not an lbz….
I guess it’s better 😳
@@JWMontoya This guy 😂. I mean I guess say whatever you gotta say to get some clicks on the title right 🤷🏼♂️
Not worth it not a real 6 speed
Why do you say that?
