Roland Juno G - Repair of Volume pot - Not the screen!

- In this video I change the volume pot on my Roland Juno G.
I think this is an underrated and forgotten synth by Roland, it seems to have little to no following other than people trying to repair the screens - which Roland support have forgotten to help with?
This synth doesn't even have a facebook group.
I do think this could be a powerful workstation for as the sounds are really good and editable. Though I haven't found patch sharing.
What do you think of this synth?
This one has a scratchy volume pot, the level between the left and right channel are slightly off from each other. So I am replacing the pot. The volume control sticks up high on one end of the keyboard compared to the features around it. Making it an easy to target to knock and damage.

I've bought a new potentiometer. Looks compatible. But I wasn't able to remove the faulty one. My soldering iron wasn't cut out for the job. Even though it's a regular soldering iron, it features a dimmer and the ability to change tips, but I was afraid of damaging the traces if I insisted.

Hello, do you by any chance do repairs? I have a Juno DS with volume problems after being knocked at an event it volume isn’t consistent and for some reason it reduces by itself even when I’m not adjusting the dial

Good job, I don’t dare to do even those small repairs. My microkorg needs a new on off switch 😅. But how does the synth sound?!!
That is a good question, I will make a follow up on this at soon, but I do like it even though its classed as a rompler.
Hey Dean, please forgive me because I know it's off topic, but have you heard of the Columbia Electro Piano? I've heard this in person, and know they sound good, however I've also heard spare parts are hard to come by, and the preamps suck. Having said this, they basically sound like a Rhodes and are as cheap as chips!
Hi Andy, nothing is off topic. I have not seen one of those for sale in the uk. How cheap is cheap? I does seem like something I would like to get my hands on.
I've seen them for around $400-500 AUD, so we'll under $1000 USD
Ive got the same issue with my Juno-G volume knob. 😢 Do you know anywhere in the UK that would repair these & a cracked screen?
Sorry I dont. I am based in the northeast and could change the pot for you if you want, if you take the board out and post it, it might not be too hard.
For the screen is it the outer screen or the actual screen? the actual screens are known to fail.
@@deancoyle Thank you for your reply! I’ve got the board out, but it’s still attached to wires that are soldered on / attached to the board next to it. Is there a way around this?
Ah! It looks like the actual screen to me as no damage to the outside screen. I was on route to a gig & someone put their gear on top of it. When I turn it on now, the screen is just blank.
I didn't have to solder anything to get the board out, do you have any photos?
I guess they could have changed the design over the production length - if so that is a little annoying.

May a faulty knob also cause abnormally low volume?
Yes it could. Does the volume still change when the knob is rotated?
@@deancoyle Yes, it does. From nothing to low. Seems to be even lower than the last time I played it. And It crackles when turned.
If it crackles when rotating then it needs replacement. So can't hurt to change it. Let me know how you get on. Good luck 🤞
I think there is a good chance that is the issue.
@@deancoyle Would any 6-terminal 10K knob do? The generic one sold for mixers is cheaper here.
