For the last few weeks, my Juno had no sound when I powered it on. I had to power it off then back on once or twice to get it to work. Then last week the display started to crap out - dead spots, and other garbled information. I took it apart, being a retired electronics/computer/network tech who works on electronics (computers, guitar tube amps, guitars or whatever pops up) in my spare time for friends and family. I cleaned all the ribbon cable connections with isopropyl alcohol while I was inside the G, as someone on the 'net recommended. Then I changed the 3 electrolytic capacitors near the DC power input ( the only 3 caps that I could see in the Juno). That's it. I reassembled it and all of the problems are resolved. I'm fairly sure the capacitors were the cause of the power-up issues. Whether they fixed the display issue, I'm not sure, but she is working fine again. Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.
I suggested this in some other post earlier. If the caps were drying out the voltage may have been going high or dirty causing the other things to fail. I would keep long leads on those caps with heat shrink to get them away from the regulator. I wonder if his reg ran cooler after just changing the caps? It's interesting to think that this might be a possible fix for the screen issues too.
@@izzzzzz6 It's not, or at least not the full story behind the screen issue. Degraded caps aren't going to help the situation permanently because the physical ribbon cable connections going into the LCD panel itself de-laminate from the screen over time. It may also be related to driving the LCD on the lower end of spec, meaning any degradation can result in misbehavior. I replaced all of the SMC and through-hole caps on the main and power delivery/jack board and it didn't make any difference to my LCDs behavior, though the surface mount caps did fix the firmware corruption and freezing issues I was having. Also replaced the VRM and added an additional heatsink for good measure but in my case I don't think it was necessary. In short, SMC and through-hole cap degradation is indeed an issue for the Juno G but it's unlikely to fix the screen issues. The difficult thing about diagnosing these LCDs is that they will work intermittently depending on temperature and humidity. Open the unit up and mess around, hey the screen works (for an hour). You can attempt to apply heat to the areas where the ribbon cables connect and it seems to fix it, but usually only for a few days or weeks. Anyways, luckily there are two real solutions to the LCD issue now; one uses a slightly smaller display, the other uses stock size (not sure where they got them from, maybe refurb?), both are driven with pico pis with reverse-engineered display protocol emulation. You can get pre-assemble screen replacements and the original size replacements are about 200 USD. You can build the slightly smaller version yourself for about 20 USD in parts. The project and emulator software is available on github. There's also a webstore that someone set up for the pre-built version of the smaller screen for ~50 USD.
MarkusFuller Thanks for your instructional video . I have a Juno -Gi (which until now did not give me problems) and it is good to know that if one day fails, will not have to despair because it is possible to repair !!! Greetings from Argentina.
I love the way you managed to solve this problem (and the tool you used), there is 99% chance that this was the cause of the fault :-) Really nice video !
Another great video well put together. Can I just offer you a tip though after nearly 40 years in the electrical maintenance game. Put the kettle on first and make a cuppa. It nearly always finds the problem quicker !
I would think that since they all had that size heat sink on the VR from the factory, and they worked for so long, that the heatsink is the right size to keep the VR cool. So something must have changed to make the VR heat up more than it should. Something may be going bad and drawing too much current. It would have been good to measure current draw through the VR and see what it is.
This video is old but I just found it. I have TWO Juno-G synths. I have never seen the crackle problem but both my units suffered bad displays. It comes back to a display driver IC that fails. Roland has an upgrade kit. I bought for both synths and installed. This display upgrade also requires a firmware upgrade. I am proof it can be done at home. Just take your time, no distractions, ESD protection, document your work and all will be well.
When and where did you get the replacement screen? Roland hasn't stocked the revised LCDs for years now afaik. Anyways, 99% of the time, the screen failure is due to connection issues (often in conjunction with degraded power delivery circuits) and not a display driver IC failing. Realistically, the 'display driver IC' sort of needs a reason to fail, it's highly unlikely to simply fail permanently without being exposed to fairly severe heat or power issues.
@@g10118 I attempted every way to resolder, clean and reseat the connections without any luck, the problem kept coming back. I contacted Roland and kinda got the brush off and was told I needed to send it in. I did mine years ago. I am going to have to check with Roland USA in Los Angeles if they still have the part.
@@StevePietras Appreciate the follow up. As of mid 2019, the official word from Roland is that they have no more LCDs in stock and no more will be produced. Often, the heat-pressed connections on the LCD assembly itself are the root of the issues and the screen issues may or may not be exacerbated by degraded power delivery. ~180 degree Celsius iron with baking paper between the iron and the ribbon usually restores those connections without damage. The socketed ribbon connections should be cleaned and checked also, but often they are not the sole instance of degraded connection in the rather long chain of ribbon connections for the original Juno G assembly. If the Juno G in this video has the revised LCD and 2.01 firmware (which it almost certain does, otherwise it would probably be acting erratically), then the screen is probably less susceptible to showing threshold-level power filtering problems. The display-related ICs themselves are rarely the root of the problems and since revised replacement parts are no longer available, repairs need to be approached accurately with available resources in mind.
Really informative video. I have one of these and mine was silent a couple of times on start up, so I guess nothing was over heating at this point, but this video has given me a guide to fault finding if it does it again. I wonder if dust can cause faults, I don't know if these boards are coated with an insulating film... 🤔
+markusfuller Thanks for this video. It gives me hope that my roland Juno-D would be fixed. It's been having the same issue since 2014 and was advised by a local tech to have the entire PCB board fixed.
+Arnold Castillo thats the easy way out to just replace an entire board. I have never done that on any repair and i have been doing this job for 35years.
Another entertaining video Markus :-) i would also have suspected a D to A converter on the output end. also temperature related. while the fault was there, use freezer spray and a hot air gun. Hope you sorted it though.
it is so great to see all your video. and what all gear looks inside. gues this synth are simular to juno ds. it would be great till see a Roland juno ds 88 inside.
may be current consumption is more than it must be (bad element, leakage in capacitors or something, or dusty flux). or may be it is too large input voltage from external PSU.
+man125403 Hello Man125403, I was using the original roland PSU for this. I think it is 9volts 2amps , a standard unit for many of their synths. I think it may be the caps changing their ESR value as they exceed their recommended operating temperature. still the thing works now (well for an hour that is).
My thoughts were - why is the regulator getting so hot? Should it be? Presumably no, so something was drawing too much current. Since what you did fixed it, Markus, I agree with man125403 - one of the capacitors you replaced had leakage current. That's not the same as ESR. Capacitors should have low ESR, ideally, but that behaves as though it's a resistor in series with the capacitor. What you probably had was a capacitor behaving as though a small value resistor was in parallel with it - that's leakage current. Anyway, entertaining as ever. I like the IR camera toy :)
good job, one question, my synthesizer (Akai AX80) turns off some keys when I'm with polyphony but when I choose it other presets are heard, and it turns off other different keys, this is with polyphony but without it all the keys work, unfortunately I find myself in another country to go see you at your workshop, could you give me an idea?
I have a Quasimidi raven it used to work fine but it sat for a while and now it switches on but it doesn’t go past the startup display so no sound is coming would you have any ideas or suggestions
This is a bit late, I know, but did it stay fixed? It could be the built-in thermal safeguard of the 7805 causing it to fluctuate? Just an idea. Another idea is that there is a leaky component somewhere putting extra load on the 5V rail. A failing transistor or op-amp in the pre-amp stage would be my guess (without looking at the service manual, mind you). As I said, I know it's a bit late. I really just want to know if this is happily oscillating along somewhere in a good home :)
Do you have any idea of how to repair the LCD screen problem? It is a common problem that compromises the use of most functions on the synth. Roland have built a new screen to substitute the original one. But those are sold out... Now i have a keyboard without the screen. Operating blind. Is there anyone who have found a solution for this? Thanks!
I also gladly own a stunning Yamaha Tyros 5 which is virtually new and working perfectly well. I have seen a video or two of yours where you are repairing one of these and a Tyros 4 .
I don't know... That sort of heat on the regulator seems excessive. I'm thinking you may have prolonged the life a bit, but there may be a deeper problem on the 5v circuit somewhere?
+alphabeets I agree, I should have have checked the current consumption with the manufacturers details. but this was just a free repair for a friend and I don't get enough free time. sometimes I just have to call it a day and wrap things up so I can move onto the next Job.
I know it has been years since this video was made, but as a technician, I wonder why you didn't use a heat source to try to trigger the fault , not on the regulator (as it was already close to break down!) but on other circuit areas. I use my hot air soldering station, set at about 100ºC and go slowly through all the components trying to find which one reacts to heat. You will be surprised on how many faults show that way, instead of waiting for hours to happen, and even more time than usually, if you have the unit opened so the heat dissipates better
Hello, I'm with a Juno Gi, when I start I see program error, I can navigate in all settings but is out of sound. Would you have any tips or a schematic that can help me?
love youre videos-thanks so much. do you or anyone happen to know if roland fa06 complete keyboard and connectors are the same as juno ds (whole keyboard comes out with 2 screws) ? look the same. its for a repair as some notes not working on my fa06.ive tried cleaning contacts etc
Sir, I have juno g keyboard. The problem is that after two or three days, the sound is very slow when I turn it on. And if I move the power wire, the sound decreases. Then after half an hour, the automatic sound starts very well. yes..then there is no problem in sound...and keyboard works very well..but again after two or three days today problem occurs..so sir guide.
Thanks for sharing this. Situations like this remind me of when I spent hours in a technician training class, trying to figure out why a computer kept saying "missing NTLDR" on boot up, only to have an instructor walk up to it, and pull a floppy out of the drive. LOL
+ThomasGrillo I know what you mean there, I once spent over an hour taking a HD video recorder apart wondering why there was no power getting through - checked fuses - checked cable and plug. then realised the extention cable i was using was not even plugged in behind my desk. Face>Palm moment LOL
+ThomasGrillo Boot disks left in drives of brand new PC's could get you even when you had been doing the job for a while. Where's this weird diagnostic mode coming from :-)
+ThomasGrillo As a software engineer, I know this pain. Some problems take hours to show up. Some problems take weeks to solve. I am working on that sort of problem now. I sort of dread going into work tomorrow and not being able to report any progress Friday; and Friday I was running through quicksand getting nowhere due to problems that didn't have to do with original problem!
I had a synth here 3 times from a friend who said it was quite noisy, I spent hours on it and could not find a problem, it turned out his mixer at home had the gains turned right up for the channel he would have this synth on. 3 days wasted :-(
+Michael Smith Hi Michael, sorry it's been a while since my last video. I have been building new worktables etc and trying to sort out my synth den. still I have managed to pick up a few items for my next video's over the last couple of weeks. so more video's on the way soon. Best wishes from Markus
Im just filming this RX11 repair now, It works but there is so much crap in the faders and some of the switches bounce (as in set off the drum several times within one hit.) so its strip all the switches apart and clean clean clean.
do you have any idea how to power a Korg microkey, i been searching all over the net and cant find anything, its USB powered, and it did work, but now there is no power when i plug into desktop, do you have any ideas how I can go about fixing it.Really need help,
Hello Markus, I'm with a Juno Gi, when I start I see program error, I can navigate in all settings but is out of sound. Would you have any tips or a schematic that can help me?
Hello Sebas I do not know what the problem may be and sadly I have no schematics for the Juno Gi. I wonder if you are getting the program error it may not be fully loading so you may have to do a full factory reset.
Thank you for your video. I got the same problem and I did I what you said on the video and it improved. After a few years of not using it, I try to switch it on and I got error 1. Do you know what error 1 means.
I'm not sure what each error corresponds to exactly but errors 1, 2 and 3 are related to instability and corruption. I had all three errors on mine and eventually it wasn't able to load the firmware at all, it would become corrupt again immediately after flashing. Replacing all of the surface mount caps on the power delivery/jack board and main board fixed all the above issues.
Electrolytics normally work better while warm (lower ESR due to faster working chemistry in the electrolyte), although heat drys them up and kills them over time.
Ooh I can't wait to see what electronic rhythmer is in store! Bentley rhythm ace? dr110? On a more relevant note, loads of modern gear seems to get hot around the regulation... My behringer mixer toasted within a year. I think space saving means bad or no airflow in a lot of cases. especially when stuff gets dusty!
+James Porch Hi James, Yes this drum machine is nothing special - not rhythm ace or the dr110 sorry. but it is an interesting little yamaha RX11 that needs drying out before i plug it in. I Hope all is well and I look forward to seeing you on the car-boots soon. best wishes from Markus. PS Im enjoying your video's keep up the good work.
markusfuller, good afternoon. okay? hope so friend, I am from Brazil and if you can indicate a link to buy the LCD display Roland Juno G I appreciate the attention and I'm waiting for a brief return
Saya mengalami masalah pada saat start up roland juno G saya ada tulisan error 3.. cuma tampil logo dan gagal botting. Bagaimana mengatasinya terima kasih
Hello Greetings Sir plz i want to ask you that my Piano Roland Guno.G have problem screen is on but no display so kindly help me to fix problem am worshiper Angel Brian. Thank you so much.❤
+markusfuller Nice video! I don't know if you had enough room, but another way to help the cap would be to leave it on its long leads and let it hang off the edge of the board, or lean away from the hot component. When I re-cap tape recorders, I often leave longer legs and "lean" the caps so they are away from heat sources. I was also thinking of you the other day because.... Someone found a Casio 88 note electric piano in the dumpster and brought it to me to see if I could get it to work. It was quite heavy! It ran on 12 volts so I tried my "universal" DC brick to power it up. Worked! Nice tone actually. However, whoever had it before really slammed the keys and had managed to break most of the sharps/flats so they were rattling like crazy, although they did work. They also slammed a natural (G) in HALF. I have no idea how one could break keys like that! I probably could have repaired the unit, but my friend didn't want to pay me for doing the work, and I wasn't going to do that amount of work for free. I'd have asked for it to be a project, but I don't have the room - or use - for such a big thing. My playing days are loooong gone.
+clydesight Hi Clydesight, Yes that would have been the best way to do that but I was using a cap that i had de-soldered from another board as i did not have a spare 2200 in my parts box and could not be bothered to trip off to maplins.
markusfuller Ah yes, the power of re-puroposing! The stuff I work on is so old, the components can't be repurpoosed. So I always buy new. I hadn't thought that you'd be able to re-purpose - but you work with much more modern - and stable - equipment than I do. My stuff has often been drowned in a basement flood ("Why does this tape recorder smell like old socks?") Anyway, I always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
Thank you, Markus, for the reply , as you know Juno-G`s LCD problem is a common issue for this instrument, I don't see any text on screen just backlight , when I turn on the Juno sometimes it shows some text and then it's again a blank screen, the instrument is functional in terms of sound, keys, and etc... the only thing that doesn't work is the LCD screen, I will send you some pictures of screen via email. I love the Juno I hope you can help me for solve this problem :)
I have a juno G and I've already changed the LCD one time. the LCD is again dead and roland don't want to take it in warranty even if they know it's a faulty part.... now they have made a new version of the LCD but you must pay to get it and pay for the repair.....
Good day Sir. i have a Roland Juno Gi, the problem with it is that when i press the keys, no sound comes out, but when i Connect the guitar and play it through the Juno, there is sound, what can be the problem, i tried resetting it to factory settings and still there is no sound. what can be done to fix this problem??
+donald ngwenya Hi Donald have you checked if the Midi controls in the global settings menu is set to use the keyboard on the Juno Di or external. also maybe you have a second keyboard with midi that you could try plugging into the midi in of the Juno Di ?.
missed your videossssssssssssssss !!!!!!! soo good to see you on the 'Tube!! i always look in your playpen to see whats new there. seems you have a puppy dog up top on the shelf and an R2D2 behind you. and is the desk to YOUR left new? something black and gold behind you as well.. cheers mate! :)
Why is the LCR meter not showing that the capacitor is bad? In previeous videos the ESR meter was also not able to identify the bad cap. In these videos installing a new cap solved the problem. I think i'm missing the point. Or not the cap change solved the problem? Or an other parameter of the cap was bad, which cant be measured with an LCR, or ESR meter? Or the cap fails only when its heated (to 80 °C)? What other instrument is needed than, to check that cap? If a simple load can show that the cap is bad, than why these complex meters cant measure it? So if these meters can indicate 2 cap out of 3 bad caps, then this still looks gambling to me. How can I trust the results? nothing offensive against these meters : ) i'm just curious. can someone clarify that to me? thanks in advance!
Hi Markus, how this keyboard turned out? Did it still have this problem? I was thinking of buying a used Juno-G which the seller told me is having low sound on all outputs and take it to repair, I don't know if it's a good deal. Greetings from Brasil.
Hi I have seen a vast amount of your impressive videos and indeed you appear to have carried out many repairs. I actually own one of these stunning synths. I am not an electrician by any stretch of the imagination. However you may be able to answer my question and you might know a way I can solve this easily. I have a classic Roland Juno G that IS indeed fantastic. The screen on mine is glowing the usual orange and therefore the display is faded so no writing can be seen. I have watched other videos on this subject AND it MIGHT be bad connections and therefore absolutely no need to replace the screen. I am from the nice West Midlands so perhaps not too far away from you.
Hello MarkusSir.... How are you???? I have Juno G... When I on the keyboar it shows error 1 in display what is the meaning of error 1... In service manual nothing is given about error 1.. so pls help me...
Help, my Roland Juno G has a problem and maybe something I am missing, I can't get sound through headphones or into regular pa speaker from jack output to play just live, am I missing something? I went to settings and switched Midi to Off and still nothing, any ideas, everything else works fine, powers up,all buttons function and display is perfect.
Hello. I would try and do a factory reset just to be sure all midi and other settings are back to normal, then if there is still no sound you maybe have a problem with the audio amp part of the keyboard. factory reset procedure= press Menu / press down cursor to select number 3 (utility) press enter / press button below ( Factory ) screen icon / then press button below ( EXEC ) / when display says completed turn power off then back on again. . warning you will lose any settings you previously saved but the unit should reset back to when it was new from the factory. I hope this solves the problem for you but if not then theres surely an audio hardware fault within the keyboard. good luck.
That does not sound good, There may be a problem with the amplification part of the Juno especially if theres nothing on headphones either. I wonder if the volume control pot is broken ?. to be honest I have heard of several things that go wrong with the Juno but a lack of sound has never really come up before. you need to get someone to open it up and check around the audio output area with an oscilloscope and check the volume pot to make sure that is not internally broken and that there are no dry joints where the pot is soldered onto the board. those are the places I would look first.
+Emir Ercan Ayar Hi Emir. I did try another one but it did exactly the same and reached high temperature quickly so I placed the original one back. that was not on the video as I try to keep them under 15 minutes. normally theres lots of video to put together after a shoot and bits have to be scrapped to keep the view time under 15 minutes.
Hi. Your videos are very intersting and you sure have repaired a lot of stuff. I currently own a fantastic Roland Juno G synth. The fault I am having is quite common and I wonder if you can perhaps mend the orange screen that appears to only show parts or none of the display. I understand it could be the ribbon from the circuit board to the screen. I am in the UK and I am happy to bring it to you or send via post. Yours sincerely.
Hello. I have seen a few of these problems already on youtube with various types of fixes from reseating the ribbon cables to changing the entire display (which is expensive). but there is another problem that is within the display itself where the tiny connectors just refuse to make contact. I am not really the guy to do this job for you as I already work full time and simply don't have time to take on any extra work. but have a look at tome of the videos as some people have been lucky by removing and reseating the ribbon cables. maybe with luck that could fix it but if the display has the problem then you would need to source a new one. sorry I cannot be more helpful. my apologies from markus.
markusfuller hi thanks. I had the screen replaced a few years ago by the shop I bought it from but a similar problem has reappeared though I had it sorted for nothing. If it’s the same problem it may not be the screen and perhaps the ribbon though I don’t want to open it myself NOT being electronically minded. Yes it is a common problem and would perhaps appear to be a design fault and therefore Roland ot to be responsible to at least fix it even for half price.
very interesting video Markus. I'm curious to know if that was the end of the problem :) As a by the by, I have a Juno Di, which afaik has the same keybed. It's low end Roland and noisy to play, despite being nearly new - clanky when key bottoms out. Can't quite see the mech there, but would you say an appropriately placed strip of felt running underneath would solve? Can't see if there's somewhere to run it. Thanks for all your informative videos :)
try it in different thicknesses. Perhaps just a circle or strip in a certain position under each key. Sometimes a cube of felt glued in a space or with a slit in it wedged and glued over a strip of plastic or similar. Worth a try. Or just play on a bigger sound system!
Great vid again Markus, Any chance you have ever tuned a Juno 60? mine is in dire need after a modded chip/midi conversion. I would send it to you but I'm in NZ so bit of a distance to cover :)
+James Jackson Hi James I have never tuned a Juno-60 so Im not sure how to help you there. Sorry but I just fix a few items for local friends and myself. I could never trust a synthesiser to make it in one piece through our postal system so would not do any repairs by post, Sorry about that. I hope you get yours sorted out. Best wishes from Markus
Well it seems like you fixed, maybe at a pub gig it might happen again with the crackling, but I'm pretty sure you fix it right. I guess Roland built it to a price and used a cheap heatsink, another thing I don't get is why the caps are not 105degress rated, why would use one that is rated for 85degess.
+Kristian Dawe Hi Kristian, The black cap below was rated at 105 but the blue was at 85 . I agree maybe roland saved a penny using the 85 cap. Though in all honesty I don't think the LM7805 was expected to run at 95celcius.
Hi Kristian, I'm not sure because the display backlight never flickered when the unit became faulty which I thought it may have done with a power fault. unless there is another track leading off from the power socket to yet another power controller but I could not find any more regulators within the unit.
The Juno G was a Roland nightmare, the LCD screens were failing left and right, mine as well. It was fixed but now the Performance button sticks. After this and the keybed issue on the JD-XI, I decided on a Korg Kross instead, much better quality machine.
I have the Juno G with the same problem Bad LCD Screen its hanging on by a thread. I'm really leaning toward getting an AKAI midi keyboard... this sucks. I just purchased a ASUS gamer computer for my music production and it's fast as lightening, the Roland JUNO G wont work with windows 10 though. It so dated I'm going to have to upgrade
Hi Mark, I have a Juno-G and the screen is faulty, sometimes it works fine and sometimes half of it goes blurry/blank. you mentioned something in the video about the heat affecting the lcd screen? could this be the reason that it doesn't work? forums.rolandclan.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=47850
Rowan Saunders Hi Rowan. sometimes heat can affect lcd screens but they normally go black and you cannot read anything. the heat problem on this one in this video was the power regulator getting hot but that was not affecting the screen on this model.
hey Mark nice video, a thought... was the power supply the proper one? If so, was it putting out The proper voltage? If it's putting out more power than what it should the voltage regulator will have to work a little harder (IE more heat as you saw) Also, I'd check to be sure the volume pot is ok. Just some thoughts, I know this was over a year ago. Keep up the good work.
Hello Sir thank you for the great video on this Juno G, Iam a technician from Kampala uganda. I have a Roland fantom G with the same problem. And I have tried everything but all in vein can you help me please
Nice video. I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and predict that (seeing as this video is now 7 years old) that if your friend still owns the G that he has brought it back with a screen problem. You'll really hate that repair!
I have a Juno D where all sounds just died I can choose sound but no voice or anything when I turn up the volume ..... it works like a mini claviatur but no longer knew what it could be its almost the same synth this is just an older man, I also had problems with some keys that must be pressed extra hard to get certain sounds from it. And that reason I have put in another place and not use it anymore synth I'm talking about www.roland.se/products/juno-d/ Forgot to say that before happenning I used an external sound module Roland PMA-5 in was closed for the night and the next day I just remove it from the keyboard didnt play or do something vase maby 3 days later I want to do somthing games on it and it vas only dead or no real sounding disappointed my old Roland PMA -5 still works I understand it can be difficult to know what wrong I had to do a factory reset on it and no one else happenning Hope you undestand my bad english
did the Juno-D work ok before you connected it to the PMA-5 ?. the only thing i can suggest is a full factory reset though you will lose all your own personal settings etc. and to be honest the PMA-5 should not have caused any problems at all with the Juno-G.
I thought not. I had the PMA-5 years ago and it never created any problems with anything i attached it to, If you have done the factory reset then Im not sure how you are going to get around this,
+Sir Benjy of moon Yes Sir you are quite correct, Its on the To-Do list for a teardown, but at the moment im having great fun just playing it, It sounds so amazing.
The Juno G is proof that Roland has NO CONCERN for quality control in their manufacturing processes. Translate this as, once Roland separates their customer from their hard earned money the customer can piss off! Spend your money elsewhere.
I never could believe that it will happen with Roland product.
+José Coronel Thank You and greetings to Argentina :-)
I love the way you managed to solve this problem (and the tool you used), there is 99% chance that this was the cause of the fault :-) Really nice video !
Another great video well put together. Can I just offer you a tip though after nearly 40 years in the electrical maintenance game. Put the kettle on first and make a cuppa. It nearly always finds the problem quicker !
+CONCERTSEC I think you just nailed it on the head there Nigel.
Hi do have a video about fixing faulty screen display of roland juno g? Thank you...
yep same with my roland juno di.... + jumping button program by it self
Another entertaining video Markus :-) i would also have suspected a D to A converter on the output end. also temperature related. while the fault was there, use freezer spray and a hot air gun. Hope you sorted it though.
With a cleaner more stable power supply and a cooler regulator because of it, everything else is less likely to overheat or bug.
it is so great to see all your video. and what all gear looks inside. gues this synth are simular to juno ds. it would be great till see a Roland juno ds 88 inside.
may be current consumption is more than it must be (bad element, leakage in capacitors or something, or dusty flux). or may be it is too large input voltage from external PSU.
Hola amigo. ¿Las gomas de contacto del Roland Juno Stage 76 son iguales a la de algún otro Roland ?
I have a Quasimidi raven it used to work fine but it sat for a while and now it switches on but it doesn’t go past the startup display so no sound is coming would you have any ideas or suggestions
Hola, mi roland juno GI presentado problemas. Me dice que hay un error en la boar. Que debo hacer en ese caso ??
Why not pieces of foam between the power supply and cap?
Hlo sir You can help me plz.i have junu gi Roland but open offer not working every thing what's problem plz telme
i have a juno G but my screen is not working where can I get this part
If you find out, please, let me know! eduposada@yahoo.com.br
Hello sir my Roland Juno-g keyboard why this problem in my keyboard pach and tone don't on and
problem is error 1. Any solution
the display of my juno G is just not working at all i has the orange light all the way across but i can't see nothing what can i do with this
Thanks for sharing this.
3 days wasted :-(
Great to see a new video!
+Michael Smith Hi Michael, sorry it's been a while since my last video. I have been building new worktables etc and trying to sort out my synth den. still I have managed to pick up a few items for my next video's over the last couple of weeks. so more video's on the way soon. Best wishes from Markus
Looking forward to it!
+markusfuller I could see 'Markus' synth den' as a whole new channel! I just sold my rx11, great machine. although the psu gets hot...
So how's the Juno now? Did that fix it?
+LemonSlice Hello I repaired that for a friend and he has not said it has broken down so I guess it still works.
markusfuller Nice to hear. Thanks, I needed closure lol
PS Im enjoying your video's keep up the good work.
markusfuller, good afternoon.
okay? hope so
friend, I am from Brazil and if you can indicate a link to buy the LCD display Roland Juno G
I appreciate the attention and I'm waiting for a brief return
Saya mengalami masalah pada saat start up roland juno G saya ada tulisan error 3.. cuma tampil logo dan gagal botting. Bagaimana mengatasinya terima kasih
Hello Greetings
Sir plz i want to ask you that my Piano Roland Guno.G have problem screen is on but no display so kindly help me to fix problem am worshiper Angel Brian. Thank you so much.❤
Hola podrías ayudarme a salucionar el problema del mío ?!
+clydesight Hi Clydesight, Yes that would have been the best way to do that but I was using a cap that i had de-soldered from another board as i did not have a spare 2200 in my parts box and could not be bothered to trip off to maplins.
markusfuller
Ah yes, the power of re-puroposing! Thanks!
just got a rm1x and it failed the button/switch test, will have to open the bugger and take a look, should i use contact cleaner first?
+Pete Mcneil Isopropyl alcohol is a better cleaner and it will not leave any sticky residue that will attract dust particles over time.
Hey Markus, is there any permanent solution for Juno-G's lcd problem ? I've replaced the lcd twice but after few months it doesn't work again
Hello Behrooz, what is the problem you are having with the display ?.
Thanks Laser for the information, unfortunately it seems this is what it is, would you please send me the link of the new LCD ?
the LCD is available here:

+Marc Abernathy Hi Marc. I like to place a few easter eggs in my videos. watch the Rubik cube :-)
AWESOME! Now I know what the problem with my Roland E-70 is!!!! I can fix it now!!!
Hello I sold this keyboard to a friend but it only lasted a few months before new faults appeared on it. I believe it has been thrown away by now.
Tengo un roland yuno G ,esta pegado la pantalla donde dise ,roland yuno G,y de ay no pasa no abre
If you find out how to repair this, please, let me know. I've got the same problem. eduposada@yahoo.com.br
Hello MarkusSir....
How are you????
I have Juno G... When I on the keyboar it shows error 1 in display what is the meaning of error 1...
In service manual nothing is given about error 1.. so pls help me...
Hello I have looked but cannot find any information for error 1. i too have looked into the service manual but it says nothing about error 1.
@@markusfuller Ok thank You very much Sir.....for replying me..
I hope this solves the problem for you but if not then theres surely an audio hardware fault within the keyboard. good luck.
@@markusfuller tried reset but still same problem.
@@markusfuller thank you so much for your response. Very helpful. I'll let you know outcome.
Thank you for this great video. I'm wondering that Why didn't you change the 7805 with a new one?
+Emir Ercan Ayar Hi Emir. I did try another one but it did exactly the same and reached high temperature quickly so I placed the original one back. that was not on the video as I try to keep them under 15 minutes. normally theres lots of video to put together after a shoot and bits have to be scrapped to keep the view time under 15 minutes.
hey markus , nice BGM for title at the end, Hurrah
I'm curious to know if that was the end of the problem :)
As a by the by, I have a Juno Di, which afaik has the same keybed.
Hola como estas ...mi teclado tiene ese problema
Another crack(l)ing job done, thanks for showing us.
Sir tell me roland xp60 display problem
Though in all honesty I don't think the LM7805 was expected to run at 95celcius.
do you think the LM7805 could have been faulty, 95 is pretty hot
Hi Kristian, I'm not sure because the display backlight never flickered when the unit became faulty which I thought it may have done with a power fault. unless there is another track leading off from the power socket to yet another power controller but I could not find any more regulators within the unit.
I changed the screen twice on my Juno-G, its a common problem, now i see there's something else to worry about :( BTW Love the channel, keep it up
I've changed once. The second time I needed, I wasn't able to find the replacement part...
The power supply circuit would have been my guess too. Sounded like it was starving.
The Juno G was a Roland nightmare, the LCD screens were failing left and right, mine as well. It was fixed but now the Performance button sticks. After this and the keybed issue on the JD-XI, I decided on a Korg Kross instead, much better quality machine.
I have been playing the Korg Kross at my local music shop and it is indeed a good keyboard.
Great videos dude. What county in the uk do you live in? I might have some gear for you XD
Brighton I believe
I HAVE YAMAHA PSR..3000 IT HAS GOT
DISPLAY ISSUE...CAN I SEE IT ON MY ANDROID MOBILE...
Hello Mahesh . I do not think it can be connected to android mobile.
I don't understand why you didn't change the 7805 as well.
vampifrog only reason is it measured out correctly with the multimeter plus I did not have a new one in stock anyway.
markusfuller great videos! Quick question I'm a beginner here and starting to fiddle around with my keyboards. What multimeter would you recommend?
Did it fix the problem?
yes but I’m not sure how long it lasted
hey Mark nice video, a thought... was the power supply the proper one? If so, was it putting out The proper voltage? If it's putting out more power than what it should the voltage regulator will have to work a little harder (IE more heat as you saw) Also, I'd check to be sure the volume pot is ok. Just some thoughts, I know this was over a year ago. Keep up the good work.
Hi Robert, I believe the unit is still working, the guy i fixed it for has never called me back.
Leaky SMD caps maybe?
Hello Sir thank you for the great video on this Juno G, Iam a technician from Kampala uganda. I have a Roland fantom G with the same problem. And I have tried everything but all in vein can you help me please
Hello Mayani Bruce. If I can help I will but I stopped repairs and making videos a year ago as I retired so I no longer have any schematic diagrams.

As usual, Great video😊
+lachopakapura sharon lerner's channel . Many Thanks
I'm surprised the screen works
So if you don't play one single note for 30 minutes straight, you won't have this problem ???
hey bro, nice video
Shame...My Juno G dont work anymore...nothing...im gonna watch if its not something like what Markus reapair.
Nice video. I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and predict that (seeing as this video is now 7 years old) that if your friend still owns the G that he has brought it back with a screen problem. You'll really hate that repair!
That old Juno-G has probaly gone to the landfill by now.
And that reason I have put in another place and not use it anymore synth I'm talking about www.roland.se/products/juno-d/
Forgot to say that before happenning I used an external sound module Roland PMA-5 in was closed for the night and the next day I just remove it from the keyboard didnt play or do something vase maby 3 days later I want to do somthing games on it and it vas only dead or no real sounding disappointed my old Roland PMA -5 still works I understand it can be difficult to know what wrong I had to do a factory reset on it and no one else happenning
Hope you undestand my bad english
did the Juno-D work ok before you connected it to the PMA-5 ?. the only thing i can suggest is a full factory reset though you will lose all your own personal settings etc. and to be honest the PMA-5 should not have caused any problems at all with the Juno-G.
yea no problems before it va conected to PMA-5 . i did a complete factory reset before put it away now its in my storehouse
I thought not. I had the PMA-5 years ago and it never created any problems with anything i attached it to, If you have done the factory reset then Im not sure how you are going to get around this,
thanks for your answer anyway undestand it can be hard and this is a mysterium to me to hehe

The Juno G is proof that Roland has NO CONCERN for quality control in their manufacturing processes. Translate this as, once Roland separates their customer from their hard earned money the customer can piss off! Spend your money elsewhere.
