I have also noticed the sound, but I would suggest not leaving the vents open and not using yarn since water and time will probably cause them to get moldy, maybe. I would suggest thin automotive foam tape around the flap edges to allow them to function as they do, but would stop the sound of the flapping.
Yeah the yarn was more of a temporary fix while I had it open. That said, I don't think moisture can really get there much and the EV6 does have the auto dehumidify feature. I don't think it'd be too bad. But yeah foam tape would be better.
This sound has been driving me crazy for over a year now. Multiple trips to the dealership and they couldn't replicate it. Thank you so much for making this video. 😁
Hooray!!! 🎉 I’ve looked all over to fix this and wasted two days at the dealership. Had mine for over a year and this was my only nagging complaint. Looking forward to fixing mine now. Thanks for sharing ❤
Yes! I've had my EV6 for 2 days and it's been driving me nuts! I'm going to design and print a TPU ring for the vents to stop the tapping but still allow them to close and operate normally.
You could run a thin bead of hot glue around the contact face of the flaps, keep them open and let it cool. That would leave a softer contact patch. If you think it would affect the weight / operation of the flap, put the bead on the face of the panel.
I thought about that but didn't have hot glue. Thinking about it more though, hot glue is somewhat hard. Even if it's a little softer, it still would make a sound with the flap closing. And the fact of the panel is hard to do I think. Several spots it contacts have a VERY thin cross section.
Thanks for this, I had mine apart last weekend looking for the noise, but didn't find it. It really makes sense that I never heard it when it was wet or snowy outside, perhaps a slight bit of moisture keeps mine from making that noise, but for sure on dry days I have it at highway speeds.
I don't think that forcing the vents open permanently is actually going to be a bad thing. In normal ICE cars, which ventilate only when the car is active, sure, I can see why this would be a thing. Don't want to ingress moisture after a downpour. But the EV6, from what I've read, does a ventliate funciton now and then to dehumidify the car, so it naturally will vent the car while parked. Doing it this way though, not sure it's the best way to do it, I'd have, as you said, put felt tape on the flappers and quietened it down that way.
If you simply purchased some thin 1/16" foam with adhesive backing, it could have been cut to fit the flapper. What you did likely leaves air flow through the vents, you could have just glued them shut or open.
Thanks for sharing this eureka moment! I was bothered by this tapping/flapping noise since I took delivery of my GT-line over a year ago. Tried many adjustiments without success. Now that you've shown me the cause, my worry is resolved. I won't even have to go through the trouble of digging them out. No worries now, mate!
The weird thing is that I noticed that in one of our EV6 the Wind... but not on the GT-LINE... its weird. But it doesnt tap so loud like on Johns video.
Thanks for sharing! I've noticed that rattling sound while driving on the freeway, and it drives me nutz! Especially since my wife doesn't notice it at all. I wonder if a thin foam filter would dampen the sound and still vent air pressure.... might have to tinker with it on the weekend 🤔
Good morning Jeff, the noise has been so annoying, we had the boot (trunk) cover out, the tool kit wrapped up and still couldn’t fix it. Just shared the link with my hubbie to get him to fix it later today. Will probably use some thin adhesive pipe insulation foam, should do the job.
Weather stripping along the flaps might work better? Or even a bead of silicone? That way they can still operate, won’t be affected by water, but will be cushioned?
I don't hear any noise from my 2024 there... what I did experience was the passenger rear seat buckle would rattle against the door, so I moved the strap over a bit and it seems to have stopped.😊😊
I’ve had my Limited Edition EV6 for a month now, but have not yet noticed the sound. But I think I’ll address it when I try and put the sequential rear turn signals in before springtime. I am wondering if those flaps were made that way for airflow or something. I don’t want to prevent or block air if that was Kia’s intention, but I do want to get rid of the sound that may or may not be there. @TechnicallyJeff just realized mine doesn't come from that side as yours. Rsttle/creaking comes from the top of the hatch. Every time I move the trunk with my hand, makes that weird noise I put some WD40 but still same issue. Maybe the dealer needs to change the whole hatch back door?
You mean the two little things that we twist on the side to make the door tigher? If so. I tried that and same thing, it sounds like coming from the top side where the hinges are. @TechnicallyJeff
Congrats, Jeff! Let me tell you about the annoying rattling sound that appears to come from the dashboard of my '22 EV6. I can't say when it started - we've had the car for 1.5 years and really like it - but now it seems to be audible when the car's driven on anything but the smoothest road surfaces. I have taken everything out of the glove compartment and front cup holders, and I have looked over the frunk, but nothing seems loose - and the noise still occurs. So, I suspect something's loose under the dashboard panels but I don't know how to remove them. Also, it may not be a good idea for me to attempt it. Then, too, I imagine the dealer would charge a hefty sum to do the R&R. Help!
Hmm I (and others) have heard a rattle under the center console, seemingly under the wireless charger. Is that possibly the area? If I push on it the sound goes away. I just haven't taken the time to really look into it. Otherwise, I'm not sure what it would be. As for the dealership, you could bring it in and say there is a rattle behind the dash and you're worried something might be loose that could cause an issue (electrical, etc). I know my dealership would drive it, listen for it, and try to figure it out.
Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼 On the other hand, the said method may defect the purpose and function of "quarter panel vent". As the flaps are permanently open, dust or insect can enter the cabin. But yeah I was thinking it could make sense to glue a little weight on the back side of the flaps. That would make it a little harder to open and keep them from fluttering all the time, but still would work for the major pressure.

Hmm I don't think so. I haven't heard anything in that area and I don't think they place flaps in the front. They are designed to release air when the HVAC is not on recirculate, and that air comes out the front and exits the rear. It could be something loose. Maybe check the panels on that side.
Hello, I have exactly the same problem. I hear a rattle noise coming frome the front. Somewhere behind the central screen. And it seems to be related to the speed, not to bumps in the road. I have removed the cover of the central speaker at the front but couldn't find the source.
@rafaelcanizares9195 does it make the sound with the air on and off with recirculate on and off? Sometimes the climate control system can make some noise with the fans.
Thanks for showing interest. The noise doesn't change if I switch the AC on an off, if I change the fan speed or if I modify the air recirculation. It is not very loud, but once I started hearing it I can't stop.
I am sooooo glad my my22 gt-line AWD does not have that problem, maybe a bad batch of those flaps? Also I noticed the flaps are vertical and if you live in SoFL you see cars without the rear bumper all the time and those flaps are sideways, seems like bad design or bad batch.
Maybe? Idk it seems pretty across the board. Even new GTs and Winds have the problem. Might be hard to hear depending on the car and if you listen to music all the time.

gotta say, didn't hear anything in video... and I don't think I've got this issue. My EV6 was built in summer 2022. I do, on the other hand, have a weird "rattle" from my drivers side sun shield. =/
I have a Yamaha100 sound bar, and cannot hear it on that, but can hear it on my phone and with my headphones. Also obviously in person. It may just be your sound system.
Is it possible that this problem does not exist in the GT-Line version? I drive this EV6 version since november 2021 and I never heard this type of noise 🤔
They all have the same design so it should be the same. You may not hear it unless at high speeds though. And some are louder than others it seems. And if you listen to music it's harder to hear it.
@@TechnicallyJeff I had some drives with interested friends who were thinking about buying such a car and we were driving without radio on and it was absolutely quiet in the car at all speeds. @@TechnicallyJeff What may be interesting for you: I live in Germany and so I could test all possible driving situations because we don't have any speed limits here. But it is as I wrote: no disturbing noises while driving. The only difference to tell: with winter tires the car sounds a little bit louder than with summer tires.
???Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the vent by blocking the air flow with yarn???? What is the purpose of those vents?? Felt pads make more sense as long as they do NOT block the air flow..
It doesn't block airflow. They can still open further and air goes around the yarn. If anything it keeps the vents open instead of allowing to close, so it's not quite such a sealed cabin. The vents allow air to escape if cabin pressure builds, like when not using recirculate or when you close doors.
I would highly recommend that you do not do what you just did. You tell the dealership that they need to add resolve to this. You explain how you are the customer, and they are the service provider, and that this is going to be addressed just like you said it will be. Period. End of negotiation. I can 100% promise if you drop a note to Kia of America if your dealership causes you any distress, and are incompetent in resolution of this matter, after making several attempts, you will absolutely get what you came for 100% of the time every time, all the time. Please remove all that you did as fine dust and possible dampness caused by the cotton/wool combination in the yarn, and high voltage is a recipe for catastrophic results. You must insist your dealership address this issue and add resolve to your liking, not theirs. You are the customer. They do what you request or otherwise expect them to do until a resolution is reached. Period.
I get where you are coming from, but this is unfortunately not something the dealership will resolve. Many have tried with dealerships and the problem is the air flaps are acting as designed. They open and close when needed to vent the air and balance pressure. The sound is an unfortunate byproduct. As for my solution, all the battery components and wiring are sealed and even on very damp days it doesn't get damp. I'm not really worried there too much.
I'm SO excited to finally have an answer here. Hope this helps you guys too! Thanks for watching! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for more videos 😀

@@TechnicallyJeff I hear the sound from the front left and right side simultaneously. I removed the rear ones and it got rid of the rear rattling.
Hmm I'm not sure what that could be. Is it possible there's plastic near the vents from delivery? Maybe the floor vents?
Jeff I’m starting to get the rattle, where is the vent outlet, wheel well?
Yeah in the back behind the wheel well on the side.
Have you shared the video and the problem with Kia to see if the with perform the service?
No, the vents are performing as designed. I don't see them doing anything.
gotta say, didn't hear anything in video... and I don't think I've got this issue. My EV6 was built in summer 2022. I do, on the other hand, have a weird "rattle" from my drivers side sun shield. =/
Try turning the video way up at that point. It's faint, but definitely a tapping. That sucks about the rattle you have though.
I have a Yamaha100 sound bar, and cannot hear it on that, but can hear it on my phone and with my headphones. Also obviously in person. It may just be your sound system.
That's weird
Is it possible that this problem does not exist in the GT-Line version? I drive this EV6 version since november 2021 and I never heard this type of noise 🤔
They all have the same design so it should be the same. You may not hear it unless at high speeds though. And some are louder than others it seems. And if you listen to music it's harder to hear it.
@@TechnicallyJeff I had some drives with interested friends who were thinking about buying such a car and we were driving without radio on and it was absolutely quiet in the car at all speeds.
All my friends were very excited about the silence while driving.
So, I'm wondering that your described problem seems to exist in some cars.
Oh very interesting. I know sometimes it was worse than other times.
Oh nice. Very interesting.
If you keep them open like this now anyway, why didn’t you simply leave them out?
Leaving them out is a much much larger opening. The way I did it, while not ideal obviously, still allows it to close a lot.
Huh i never heard that yet thankfully
That's good! It's usually more apparent when it's dry and you're driving at high speeds with windows up and no radio playing.
Jeff what is the purpose of that part?
If air pressure builds up in the car the flaps open and it releases it. I feel like this could have been designed much better.
Pressure relief (when someone closes a door) and also exhaust for cabin air when you have the recirculate button off.
There you go
Hi guys, has anyone managed to get Kia to repair this issue under warranty? My car has only done 12500 miles, this noise is driving me nuts!
Unfortunately Kia views the flaps as operating as intended, so they don't have a repair available.
@@TechnicallyJeff that is pretty crazy. They tried to sell me a new boot cover as they thought it was that. Its £800!!!
Trunk cover to you guys!
wow that's crazy
Thanks for video
Happy to help!
Oh this is funny. The only reason we notice is that the car is so quiet. These are extremely common, but you can't hear them in other cars.
Yep yep lol
???Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the vent by blocking the air flow with yarn???? What is the purpose of those vents?? Felt pads make more sense as long as they do NOT block the air flow..
It doesn't block airflow. They can still open further and air goes around the yarn. If anything it keeps the vents open instead of allowing to close, so it's not quite such a sealed cabin. The vents allow air to escape if cabin pressure builds, like when not using recirculate or when you close doors.
genius!
Big thanks to Jon for making sure his dealership found the issue!
This didn’t resolve the rattle. Good effort tho.
Yeah? It fixed it for a lot of people. Check your rear seat belts. That's another rattle I know people have.
Thank you, that was addressed from the get go with some velcro tape on all the hard edged including front passenger belt.
@@TechnicallyJeff
Ah gotcha. Sorry to hear you still have a rattle
Hmm interesting. I haven't had this problem with my EV6 but it looks like I'm in the minority.
Yeah it's fairly common. Good no problem on your end though.
Sugru
That'd probably work
