I have a new Blink door bell camera and a sync module 2. I have everything working and have a 64GB Flash drive and selected internal storage.selected....won't save nothing to USB drive. I've removed it reformated it with the link system and still saves nothing. When I re installed Software as well it does save clips to my trial online account but will not switch to local storage my USB...any ideas?
Thank you this video is very helpful. Q: I noticed you used a mini flash drive. Is there a Version (3.1) that you would recommend or are they all pretty much the same for these purposes?
Buy 2 or 3 Blink Mini cams. Rotate connecting them to the module 2. Every 30 or so days, change to the next cam and delete the previous one. Cloud subscription without the annual fee....
Can you access local storage if not on your LAN? Say you're on vacation and want to review some footage, can you get to it? Looking to do this without a cloud plan myself but seems all reviews I've watched don't talk about this.
Yes look for nas options in your routers management site if you used cable modem or a service provider that doesn't use a static ip address you will need a ddns . Honestly if your not somewhat savvy with your networking software it may require some effort..find someone who knows it . Its fairly easy but some devices are harder than others
Maybe I missed something, but all cameras have a usb or microSD option that you can pull out and watch on your computer. They all have a cloud subscription service also to watch the recordings on your phone app. So how is this different?
I don’t understand what is up with mine. It does not show local storage. Only the cloud symbol. I have removed and formatted the USB AND STILL it only shows the cloud symbol.
Hi sir. Issue from me..for help. Free trial finished and i plugged my usb which is clear of storage.. checked with. Camera and goto clips.. and it says no clips on usb? Do i need to reset the sync box?
Did the videos pop up just as fast as the cloud storage and if you want to look at it live is it just as fast with the USB drive? Thanks for any info by the way my middle name is Scott last name Burnett
I had 1 camera already on subscription. I just got another doorbell camera along with a usb, I activated the additional camera and plugged in the usb to the module which it recognized but under the clips on the app it does not show the local storage option. Any advice?
I'm sure you restarted the sync module. If not, I would restart the module and if that doesn't work I would remove the sync module and add it back to the system. let me know how it goes.
I had a similar issue. Make sure you're USB is blank and install it to the slot. Make sure the app says that it's formatted and the "local storage" option is visible. Mine still didn't save my clips. It was only after I completely unplugged my Blink module for 10+ minutes and reset my Wi-Fi router that it finally worked.
so with a sync module you can use a usb flash drive to store the video data on. i wonder if you could just use a usb cable and plug that into a pc and save the data to a hard drive that way
It would be REALLY freak'en nice if you tell us how you are moving from screen to screen. But I'm sure you just ASSUMED anyone looking at the video for help is fully experienced.
I put a usb stick in mine and left it for a couple of days, the app says 2% storage used and that theres no clips saved. All I can do is click live view but haven’t figured out how to save clips to review later
@@ScottBurnette thanks, I moved the module 2 closer to the camera and fully reset it, now it alerts me via my echo show of motion and saves clips to the usb stick.
Hi! Are you saying that with the usb only, the only way to view the clips is thru the computer? So you can’t view clips on the app at all with usb local storage??
I’m not on trial mode anymore and was about to buy a usb but maybe not if the only way to view clips is by removing the usb and inserting into a laptop. That’s inconvenient. Thank you for replying!
I am so sorry about that. In the Blink application , go to your Sync Module > Local Storage and at the bottom there is a blue button that says “Safe Eject USB”. Click this and you’ll get a message saying USB Disconnected. You can now pull the drive and do whatever you need. I hope this helps.
Why does it kept stop recordings? I neeed to turn off the sync NS then turn it back on and after that it’s only recording like 4-10 of short videos clips and completely stop recording it
Hi Scott according to another TH-camr's review from a year ago, he claims that if you use local storage, the recording stops when you switch to Live View after the motion detector captures footage even though your setting to record might be longer. Is that true?
@@ScottBurnette thanks. I just installed a 32gb thumb, it's recognized, all cameras up, but they're not triggering, alerting, or recording any clips whatsoever. Any input?
This video was excruciating to watch, and taught me nothing. Maybe write a script so you can stay on subject and flow better. You ramble about nonsense for most of the video.

Do you use Local storage? How has it been ?
Just got the USB and this video was really helpful, it works
Thanks.
So if you are away from home, get an alert, and want to see a clip on your phone, you have to have the subscription? Is that correct?

Thanks so much for the useful info. I was thinking of buying some new cameras, but your info made me change my mind.
According to another review blink has updated and you can view recording on your phone and not have to pull out thumb drive and watch in computer.
I’ll check that out , thanks !
With the blink local storage device does it record to the local storage at the same time as live view or does live view disable the recording?
Thanks for the video.
How long did 64GB last for your 3 cameras? Do we get any alerts if it gets full?
Thank you this video is very helpful. Q: I noticed you used a mini flash drive. Is there a Version (3.1) that you would recommend or are they all pretty much the same for these purposes?
Thanks for info man. It looks like only 1 of my 4 cameras are recording to usb. Can you explain how to insure all cameras record to usb drive?
I think you have to subscribe to get all your cameras to record.
Great video! Super clear Scott. I'm definitely buying one now

It cost 100$ a year, you do have to be really cheap
after the 30 day subscription expires, wonder if one can still access camera's when away from home? making use of USB local storage

Do you have to delete clips on USB drive on your computer? Does it get full, even though we delete clips as they come in on our phone.
Thank you

How do you configure the videos for a longer time?
thanks, I followed your vid and so set up was a piece of cake.
You’re welcome
Can’t find a video on TH-cam showing how to format the usb flash drive,
hello thx for sharing, can i see live video with blink home assistant ?
I haven’t been able to get that working. They use a odd protocol for the stream.

No, I don’t think you can do that.
Nope. Doesn't work that way.
Got one of those "local storage" from Blink, used to save to it, but Amazon changed it a few months ago, making it useless without a plan...
That’s just awful. I’ll look into it. Might be time to switch to any brand
Thank you for this very helpful video.

blink
does not record on the usb drive without a plan...
🤪
Does USB have to be newly formatted exFAT? What if it already has some files?
The application will format the drive and erase the files
Have 2 camers one for front door n one for wire for extra protection - but I can't view the storage on my tablet only the front door, have module 2
You may have to remove the sync module and add it back. I had to do this and the local storage works for me.
@@ScottBurnette was thinking n this -but I have ideas I wanted 2 view - none were saved the support I've got v blink are a joke
Will it work with a bigger hard drive connected via usb ?

Yes, you can view the the local storage clips in the Blink app. This is one of the features. That's what I have.
Is it possible to live view a cam on phone without any subscription ?
For now, until Amazon changes it, yes you can. You just can not save any clips.
how did you connect the usb to Mac air 2020? mine has 2 micro usb ports.
I have a usb-c dock with usb -a ports.
I liked your video but could not see the picture on the screen.

I believe 90 days.
