  • In episode number 11, I continue my mission to expose you to as many awesome, underground hair metal bands as possible. I remember seeing Vain support Skid Row in late 1989 over here in Manchester, England. No Respect is one of my all time fave Glam Metal records. I was only 14 at the time when I went to this gig with my cousin. We got dropped off and picked up by our parents 😀.

    Been waiting for you to mention Every Mothers Nightmare. I love that band and the “wake up screaming” album. I’d never heard of the band before, but I found that cd in a used cd shop and bought solely based on the album cover and have loved them ever since

    That is how I found you with the Jani video. I just adored Jani so much. I met him at a record store when DRSR just came out. I told Jani I loved him and he got up from the autograph table and came around and gave me the biggest hug and kiss on my cheek and said he loved me too and thanked me for being such a huge fan and to always believe him. Jani is still my all time favorite singer and songwriter.

    Two extra pieces of trivia regarding Julliet:
    1. Their first album was produced by guitarist Frankie Sullivan of Survivor.
    2. The second album "Passion" from 2002 was produced by Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot and has the late Frankie Banali drumming.

If you keep doing these videos Icon - Night Of The Crime, Melidian - Lost In The Wild, Gypsy Rose - Prey, Harem Scarem - S/T, Reckless - Heart Of Steel, Star Star - The Love Drag Years and White Wolf - Endangered Species are all worthy contenders

    Gypsy Rose, was the one that got away in my opinion. Managed by Gene Simmons. MTV metal hour had them pegged at #1 for a long haul. Fell apart because Gene was too strict and boys liked to have a good time. Gene Simons is an egomaniac and a snake that stoll it all. These were friends of mine growing up. I even took their first promo pic when they backed up Kiss at Pine Knob amphitheater outside Detroit.

    One of my favorites that didn't get too huge, released 2 or 3 albums and got on a couple of soundtracks, Shark Island. Law of the Order is a fantastic album, Paris Calling was the biggest song on there. I discovered this band by accident, forgot to send back the card when I was in a record club and decided to keep the album as the one I had to buy anyway.

      pretty boy floyd had a rough go. bad tours, and a bad label as well. they also had major law suit issues with a previous guitarist that sued, and won because of songwriting credits. everyone bailed before a second album was properly recorded...and i think it took until 1997 before any other music was released.

    While i dont think Pretty Boy Floyd's Public Enemies was there best album one thing I love about PBF is there dedication to staying true to what they've always been. L.A. sleazy glam with no attempt at altering or modernizing there sound. As for Blue Tears. Suncity records released 2 CD compilations of demos and unreleased songs titled Mad,Bad & Dangerous and Dancin' On The Back Streets. If you havent heard them they truly showcase Greg Fulkerson's tallents as a songwriter and vocalist. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

    After Shotgun Messiah, Tim Skold formed an industrial group called KMFDM that was pretty well respected in that space. After that, he became the bass player for Marylin Manson (alonngside John 5). Just some fun facts for ya.
    Great video, can't really argue with any of your choices. Vain, in particular, was a favorite of mine. My original band back in the day would occasionally throw a cover of "Who's Watching You" into our set and it never failed to kill. That & Vain’s “no respect” are in my top 5 debuts (Wildside too). There are so many great bands like this in the 1991 era you can easily do a part 3, 4, 5. vain's label really handcuffed them. they did get a small amount of mtv exposure with two videos. the tragedy for vain is that being from san fran, they were up against thrash metal bands that emerged like crazy from that area. death angel, metallica, and so many others made it harder for vain to get much exposure...but they found a way and island signed them.
    island records was terrible, and they had a very low budget for vain. island paid for the 2nd record to be recorded, and promo's were even sent out for the 2nd record before they were dropped when their label was bought out. pretty epic to have your record scheduled for release, promo's out and getting played, and then have everything shelved.
    they broke up shortly after, and davy and company went on to reform road crew with steven adler. drugs killed that, as adler was the draw for the labels.
    they put out albums in 1993 and 1995 (fade which is amazing), and then began regularly releasing new records in the 2000's. they have a new coming out shortly.
    davy also has worked in production and engineering, and got a lot of accolades for the stripped album by christina aguilera that he worked on.

      It took me until you showed the CD cover to figure out who you were talking about when you pronounced it Ty-keeto, lol. The band is pronounced with a short 'e' sound. They're one of my favorite bands if all time. The first 2 albums are classic but the rest of the catalog is also fantastic. Former Journey vocalist Steve Augeri sang on the 3rd album, Shine, which was very Zepplinesque.

    It cost a fortune to record and make a record back then. So its like they tried to repackage successful formulas together and find another way to recreate the taco, pizza, burger ect. Tyketto first song is so modern day cowboy influenced its unreal, Blue Tears=Blue Jovi. ALmost everything you hear with these bands you can instantly trace back to the formula and the song it was taken from. The chours of this, the verse idea of that. This is why the entire scene died. Too many cheap sound alike burger joints poppin up on every corner and people got sick of burgers, even the good ones for a while.

    • @michaelwills1926
      @michaelwills1926 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not that you’re wrong about the formulas, you’re dead on. The biggest thing was social engineering the masses for the next decade so in 1991 the switch was thrown and everything shifted to the grunge lane and anything not grunge was invited to get lost. The 80’s encapsulated fun and reckless adventure, the grunge era was about self loathing and political agitation. Probably the first instance of mass formation psychology I’d seen in my life to that point. As trends and scenes go it was totally unnatural but everyone was too caught up in it to notice. Cheers man

    • @ccthree329
      @ccthree329 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Makes you wonder if the powers at be could of inserted any style they wanted in the grunge slot and forced it to work. such as folk rock or punkabilly. Seems as they could force feed whatever they wanted at the masses and after people bitched about it at first they eventually would accept it and even decide they liked it without knowing why, because they were sort of programmed to do so. Seems like the force fed thing has worked for the masses back to disco even.
