I met Junkyard in Chicago. Best bunch of guys you'd ever want to meet. Had a great conversation with them. Learned a lot about what happened. They should have been superstars! I am humbled by the conversations. Free flowing...honest. they were cofortable talking with me and my wife. The atmosphere felt like we were all friends from childhood.
Hey, man, that is awesome. Never saw them live--I wish I had. Such a great band, and glad to hear they appreciate their fans. Thanks a lot for watching.
Company of Wolves...I wore this tape out in the 90's. Always thought Call of the Willd had a Copperhead Road feel. Start to finish...this record was killer. Crying shame they weren't huge
Completely agree, and I get the Copperhead Road comparison. They definitely deserved better. Hey, thanks so much for supporting the channel, I really do appreciate it.
So many great albums. I like that term Cowboy hair metal you use. I think bands like Cinderella and Tangier have songs that fits in that category. And I remember Stage Dolls, they had a minor hit here in Sweden with Wings Of Steel.
You're absolutely right, Cinderella and Tangier have some stuff that fits the Cowboy Metal tag! Are you from Sweden? Man, that place it keeping hair metal alive. Hey, thanks a lot for watching and supporting the channel, I really appreciate it.
You may not be aware that Brian Baker who formed Junkyard was actually a member of hardcore’s finest bands Minor Threat, Dag Nasty and is a current member of Bad Religion.

Great video! I’ll have to give JetBoy another shot … never clicked with me, but maybe it was the hair after all! LOL! Keep it up! Bands I would add to should’ve but didn’t would be: Diving For Pearls, Tangier, Warbabies and Cold Sweat. If they fit the criteria.

Hey dude. Just stumbled upon your channel. Great stuff. These vids have brought back lots of memories. I have almost all of these bands on cassette or cd. WildSide - Under The Influence is one of my favorite cd's. A couple bands I thought could've/should've are Killer Dwarfs & Helix. Two Canadian bands I always enjoyed listening to. Shit, man, sorry about the late response. LOVE Helix, especially "Wild in the Streets." Just covered Killer Dwarfs on my last video about hair metal ballads that should've been hits. Seriously appreciate you supporting what I do.
This is a good list....I could add Baton Rouge, Tora Tora, Sweet F.A., Child's Play, McQueen Street, Julliet, Big House, Thunder, Asphalt Ballet, Kiss Of The Gypsy, Wild Horses, Heaven's Edge, Spread Eagle, Every Mothers Nightmare ....so many more!
I love these videos! For every band I THOUGHT I knew about back in the day, there seems to be five more I never heard of!! Also, you should check out Baton Rouge (if you haven't already)!
Hey, thanks, man! I keep finding new ones all the time as well, which is awesome. I'm definitely a Baton Rouge fan... I could see them showing up somewhere down the line. Hey, thanks again for your support.
If you ever do another one of these videos, I think you should mention Roxxi. I only know of one of their songs, namely the title track to their one album, Drive it to Ya Hard. That song is an absolute banger with some scorching guitar licks fthat made the mistake of being released in 1990. Even if you don't cover it, you've inspired me to dust it off and rock out to it
Also, Hardline songs Can't Find My Way and I'll Be There were featured in Brandon Lee's1992 movie Rapid Fire. Brandon Lee personally requested those two songs to be in the movie. Neal Schon at the time was married to the Gioeli's sister. That's how Neal joined the Band. Good work keep it up. JC
Really enjoyed this. I own a few of these records, but there's a couple that I will need to check out. On Hardline, wasn't 'Can't Find My Way' a minor hit? Anyway, I'll keep banging the drum for 'Gallus' by Gun. Criminally overlooked due to it being released in '92.
Steelheart's debut album, the self-titled Steelheart (1990), which was released on May 10, 1990, was certified gold by the RIAA on July 30, 1991, mainly on the strength of the single "I'll Never Let You Go" which reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I love this episode, The Scream album is amazing, love ot from top to bottom, I had a chance to talk to John Corabi and thank him for this amazing record and he complimented me on my The Scream shirt I was wearing✌️
I have to disagree with the exclusion of Steelheart for one reason. Steelheart didn't because of an accident, and holding that against them just seems wrong. I also wonder what the criteria for determining a song is a "hit" really should be. When you consider the time of these albums, Billboard can't be the only measure of success. Steelheart's "I'll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)" reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, but Tuff's "I Hate Kissing You Goodbye" was #3 on Dial MTV behind Metallica and Guns N Roses. It's hard to argue that's not a hit. I definitely have a Tuff bias, but Steelheart has to be included as a "could've and should've, but didn't". That badass logo on your shirt is tattooed on my forearm since 1991, along with a very cheesy rose and dagger tattoo that says "Forever Yours" on the banner. Spent many a crazy night with Jorge and Bob (Mike Lean's brother). More to maybe add to the next video: Sweet F.A., Tattoo Rodeo, Asphalt Ballet, Cherry St. (guilty pleasure)
Hey, man, thanks for watching and commenting, and I completely see your point about Steelheart. Here's my thinking, which I may reconsider... I was a senior in high school when the Steelheart and Tuff debuts came out. I went to a small school and we didn't even have cable, so I didn't have access to MTV until I went to college. However, I'll Never Let You Go was all over radio my senior year--hell, we almost went with that as our senior prom theme (ended up with One Step From Paradise by Danger Danger). I never heard "I Hate Kissing You Goodbye" on the radio ever. I only knew about Tuff because I bought the tape after reading about them in a Metal Edge magazine. So, that was my thinking. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Steelheart, so who knows--I would definitely like to cover them at some point. Very cool Tuff story you have! Awesome. Also, I love all the bands you listed, and have them all on CD. I'm sure some will show up at some point. Hey, man, thanks again for supporting the channel...
@@HairMetalGuru419 I think that puts you just a year behind me. Class of '90 for me, and those albums came out in '91, right? I love your videos, and I'm sure you'll get to just about everything I love within the genre. I can't imagine you only plan "didn't make it" videos, but I'm glad you started there to get those bands some exposure. Tuff is still out there killing it. Stevie and Todd anyway. Not sure what happened to Jorge (miss that guy) and Michael left to open some bagel shops. Probably shouldn't say this, but everyone loves doughnuts. Marc from Wildside was my provider for the elicit white powdery kind. 🤣 Terrible decisions were made, but some great memories were too. I also enjoy the small town perspective. When your local radio stations are KNAC and Pirate Radio, everything Sunset Strip is on the radio. I was truly spoiled when it comes to the hair metal genre. The Sunset Strip wasn't just close, it was ride our bikes close.
Neither Southgang album really amounted to much in the way of sales. They got some exposure on MTV, and had a small tour with Slammin Gladys in early 1992, but by that point it was over. Southgang singer Jesse Hart was a finalist to replace Jani Lane in Warrant in late 1992 when he left the band, but was passed over for Pat Briggs, who wound up playing for Psychotica, and took a drastic change in his appearance after leaving LA.
@@patrickreeves4650 Nope, probably half a million sales between both albums from what Ive found. Butch Walker produced and wrote a lot of pop stuff for some big name albums, but it is wikipedia so who knows if thats true. Butch is probably the most successful one of the group.
@@NYUK-x-4 butch released a slew of solo records which sales wise wasn’t much, but has an amazing following around the us. he did produce quite a few successful records for other artists as well and two of the other southgang members were with him in marvelous 3.
Hey Guru, John here from Melbourne Australia. Just stumbled upon your site 2 days ago..love it,absolutely awesome material. Few Aussie bands and Albums you might like from the 80s De Mont - Body Language 1989 Kings of the sun self titled 1988. We have a Current band called Sisters Doll - All dolled up.2017. Check out Good day to be alive... Hope you enjoy..cheers John
Question .... thoughts on the band, Danger Danger? I haven't, heard you talk about them in much length. Where do they rank with you among Hair metal bands?
A couple of great albums for your next list. Silent Rage-"Don't Touch Me There" (1989). Black 'N Blue- Without Love (1985). Jon Bon Jovi knows about Black 'N Blue album. He loved the way the album was produced. Grabbed the Producer (Bruce Fairbairn) and history was made with Slippery When Wet.
I have a cassette tape I bought at a concert in 1988 from a band called Ballam & the Angel. I bet they would fit on one of these lists. If you havent heard them, try 'em out. They opened for L.A. Guns in St Pete, FL.
@@HairMetalGuru419 check out “Risen” from The Wild Boyz, horrible production tbh but the music is still there! Not as good as Unleashed but it could’ve been if mixed properly. Love the channel! 🤘🏼
There were bits of The Scream record that I could hear in MC94 . Poison Apples .. I was 13 in 90 and was always looking for something outside the big stuff . I had the Scream and Shotgun Messiah and The Four Horsemen and Badlands . I had the London Choirboys, what a Faces rip off , but fun ..
I like those Shark Island tracks you sampled, but the production is too much 80s pop. Guitars are too much buried. But I like the dude’s voice, so I’ll give the album a listen. Also, that first Junkyard album rules.

Seduce out of Detroit and Saigon Kick. Girl with Phil Lewis (La Guns) and Phil Collin (Def Leppard) should’ve been HUGE!!! Cintron (George Cintron) out of Long Island should have been HUGE!
I might add the band Bang out of Boston MA.. Check out "Bang - Summertime" great potential or I might have inhaled to much Aquanet in the day. You let me know
Wow, that is some sticky sweet popmetal. I like it... and, yes, you probably inhaled too much Aquanet back in the day, I know I did. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hey Anthony; I've been enjoying the videos you've made, and the music of the late 80's early 90's era. I have a recommendation for you that I just rediscovered recently after many years. A band called Diving For Pearls and their 1989 self titled debut. They actually had a video for "Gimme your good Lovin" The whole album is really good and the lead singer has a fantastic vocal range for rockers and ballads. I'm amazed they didn't make it bigger. Another band that fell through the cracks. Their lead guitarist Yul Vazquez was on Seinfeld and starred in a bunch of movies. Rock Candy re-released the album in 2006 with some bonus tracks Including a remake of the Beatles "Dear Prudence" and The Cult "She sells Sanctuary" Here's the video for Gimme your Good Lovin' and a link to the full album. th-cam.com/video/qyE1yeqrOKI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/0N6gom_GteA/w-d-xo.html Check these guys out. So... Law Of The Order eh... Mega album, got it on CD! Yet somehow not a peep about 'Somebody's Falling'...!!!!! "I called you up just to hear your breath on the phone!"... The Kids today will never understand that... Modern 'internet/app' culture has removed a lot of things from human interaction that were part of moving to adulthood and it's not for the best! Uggh! I completely forgot Lord Tracy... and I love the "Deaf Gods of Babylon" album. Good call! @@mikepratt6481
@@HairMetalGuru419 I just listened to it today at work and forgot how many great songs are on that album!!
JC
One other comment: Thanks for the heads-up re Brunette. “Hot Cherie” by Hardline is a bona fide classic IMO. And I found a demo version from Brunette.
Shit, I need to listen to that demo of Hot Cherie. Thanks for the head's up.
Indeed! It's not as good as the final Hardline version, but it's got some raw goodness. Lovely album cover, too. @@HairMetalGuru419
The first two Junkyard albums were incredible and they have had some good stuff since.
i heard that stage dolls record in spring of 1995 and never stopped listening to it. incredible record!
The first that springs to mind to me is Vain - incredible first album, No Respect. Played Skid Row off the stage when I saw them in the UK.
Mercury records had Kiss to that label had alot of great bands
Absolutely correct!
Arcade 1st album was awesome
And junkyard two albums and The scream. Bangers
Completely agree.
Sure was. I actually like it better than any of the Ratt albums
That album got a ton of play on the radio on KUFO in Portland, OR. The album was solid...but member changeover killed the 2nd record.
Unfortunately the second album was pure trash
I just found your channel and I am absolutely loving it! We love all the same bands bro. Keep up the great work!
Terrible decisions were made, but some great memories were too.
I also enjoy the small town perspective.
When your local radio stations are KNAC and Pirate Radio, everything Sunset Strip is on the radio. I was truly spoiled when it comes to the hair metal genre. The Sunset Strip wasn't just close, it was ride our bikes close.
Southgang? Haven't seen all the stuff, just found you. Not sure of record sales but Group Therapy was a great album
@@NYUK-x-4 butch released a slew of solo records which sales wise wasn’t much, but has an amazing following around the us. he did produce quite a few successful records for other artists as well and two of the other southgang members were with him in marvelous 3.
have you mentioned ICON at all on the channel? amazing
The Shark Island singer totally sounded like Jim Morrison. I thought so even before your caption popped up.
I owned every one of these albums! Paris Island, Company of Wolves were two I really thought were great albums.
I always thought that Shark Island was like a Great White rip-off lol in name anyway.
Angel in black was an Autograph song
Shit, I completely forgot about that--I'm sure I had read that somewhere. Anyway, thanks for the reminder, and for watching!
Hey Guru, John here from Melbourne Australia. Just stumbled upon your site 2 days ago..love it,absolutely awesome material. Few Aussie bands and Albums you might like from the 80s
De Mont - Body Language 1989
Kings of the sun self titled 1988.
We have a Current band called Sisters Doll - All dolled up.2017. Check out Good day to be alive...
Hope you enjoy..cheers John
Bangalore is amazing and David is a super nice guy !
Jetboy is great but I prefer their ‘90 release 🤘
Widowmaker - Stand by for Pain
Question .... thoughts on the band, Danger Danger? I haven't, heard you talk about them in much length. Where do they rank with you among Hair metal bands?
A couple of great albums for your next list. Silent Rage-"Don't Touch Me There" (1989). Black 'N Blue- Without Love (1985). Jon Bon Jovi knows about Black 'N Blue album. He loved the way the album was produced. Grabbed the Producer (Bruce Fairbairn) and history was made with Slippery When Wet.
Good selection of bands...another i would add is Southgang
I have a cassette tape I bought at a concert in 1988 from a band called Ballam & the Angel. I bet they would fit on one of these lists. If you havent heard them, try 'em out.
They opened for L.A. Guns in St Pete, FL.
The Wild Boyz & Slik Toxik!!!
Good call! I have CDs from both bands, but completely blanked them out. Hey, thanks a lot for watching.
@@HairMetalGuru419 check out “Risen” from The Wild Boyz, horrible production tbh but the music is still there! Not as good as Unleashed but it could’ve been if mixed properly. Love the channel! 🤘🏼
The Scream album is excellent. They gave the unreleased 2nd album away for free on the internet years ago.
Stage Dolls is one of my favorite bands. They should be up there with Bryan Adams and John Waite.
I hear you on the production... and you're right, Junkyard is fuckin' amazing. Thanks again for watching...
This is my first video of yours. I'm subscribed now. Thanks for what you do. @@HairMetalGuru419
just started watching and love the show. grew up on hair metal and is still the best by far. discovered some bands on your show and am listening to their music. keep up the great work but give VAN HALEN 3 its respect (except How many say I). how about Babylon A.D great debut. more charlie!
Thank you for your service
Should make it pt3 n p4.. bands like Heavens Edge, Trixter, Little Caesar, Love/Hate, Tigertailz, Asphalt Ballet,Babylon AD, Saigon Kick, Bang Tango, The Graveyard Train etc...
Hardline, Double Eclipse, (band still exist today) one of the best hard rock albums …ever
Seduce out of Detroit and Saigon Kick. Girl with Phil Lewis (La Guns) and Phil Collin (Def Leppard) should’ve been HUGE!!! Cintron (George Cintron) out of Long Island should have been HUGE!
Shark Island had two songs on Bill And Teds Excellent Adventure
I might add the band Bang out of Boston MA.. Check out "Bang - Summertime" great potential or I might have inhaled to much Aquanet in the day. You let me know
Wow, that is some sticky sweet popmetal. I like it... and, yes, you probably inhaled too much Aquanet back in the day, I know I did. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hericane Alice
Great band... that would be one to do in an upcoming episode.
Tear the House Down was 💯
Call of the wild sounds like Copperhead Road by Steve Earle
The Shark Island is excellent. Too much chorus on the guitars though. Shake For Me is a great song.
I didn't think calm before the storm was a ballad by arcade. maybe you're thinking of cry no more
But anyhow great vid.. watched a couple of your videos new subscriber
Cheers
Check out The Four Horsemen album Nobody Said it Was Easy if you haven't already
I wish I'd never found your channel....costing me a fortune for vinyl on Ebay
Thanks,Dave
Just came across your channel. Good job. I still have all these CD's in my collection.
First junkyard is a classic
Junkyard lead by singer DAVID ROACH ???
They don't write em like this anymore !
A time and an Era sorely missed by us of a certain age!!
You forgot Babylon A.D
Heaven's Edge
Dirty Looks. Henrik Ostergaard was a badass & cool lookin mofo. Cool from the Wire was great start to finish & cool cover art. The rest of their catalog was good too. RIP Henrik
