Great review, have tried them all, I hear there is a ‘double charred’ black barrel as well out there somewhere! All lovely but i agree proof is special. Don’t think they sell it anymore. 👍👍👍
Double Charred eh...? I'll have to keep an eye out. And yeah, I'm not sure if this limited edition will be brought for general release again, but it's still findable in some stores
I got the cask strength on a distillery tour while on honeymoon - my wife’s “you get to pick one thing” thing 😂 Love black barrel generally, if I’m showing up to have a drink at a friends it’s the crowd pleaser I’ll bring along. The cask strength was a lovely drink, although super high proof is a “sip one every now and again” for me. I’ve actually slept on the barrel proof - I just assumed it was a cask strength retail release! At 50% it definitely seems like a good buy, I enjoy wild turkey 101 at that similar proof, not too much for me. Cheers for the comparison!
Haha, sounds like a good compromise for a honeymoon souvenir that's just for you! And yeah, it's definitely an occasional sipper, whereas the Proof version is like the WT101, where it's nicely full-flavoured, but still drinkable.
I have the jamson black barrel half to bottle gone and I really enjoy it I also have the jamson black barrel proof not opened but I have tryed it very nice I have never tryed the jamson black barrel cast strength
@@phillyhoran the cask strength is nice, but not an absolute 'must have', and if you have the regular and the Proof versions, that's some nice whiskey!
I don't like regular Jameson too much. I definitely prefer Bushmills for the cheaper whiskey. But I find the regular Jameson Black Barrel very good. Black Barrel really tastes like caramel indeed! Also great reviews, it gives me some good hints of what to try next!
Nice video, the Proof bottle has been on my wishlist for a while now. Would be interesting to see you do a similar video with, say, Black Bush, Bushmills 10 and Bushmills 12
Only the standard Black Barrel is available unfortunately but it is always on bar with a backup on shelf. A very enjoyable pour Would love to have a few of the other two offerings. For guests who are big bourbon only drinkers I always have them try (depending if proof hounds) Gold Spot 9yr , Blue Spot , Redbreast 12 CS , Black Barrel or Dead Rabbit. Gold Spot 9yr is a perfect fit for US market as it hits a great proof point , age and taste for a bottle they could easily have storm the market at $80-$90. Too bad it was not made into a core release.
This was my prediction before I watched the video :) Ah man this is the head to head I'd love to do! I love the Black Barrel and really hope I can at least taste the Proof sometime soon. Cheers Matt, great video thanks!
I love the black barrel proof, I bottled my own version of the cask strength but haven't opened it yet. I got a sample while I was down there and not sure how I feel about it
Only one way to find out for sure I guess... But yeah, I think the CS version is a fun experience, and a tasty whiskey, but the Proof version is the best balance of ABV and drinkability for me
What do you think of Jameson Black Barrel?

Haven't tried the distillery version, but I'm sitting down with the black barrel proof as I watch this and its lovely stuff.
It sure is lovely!

Yes I have the jamson black barrel and black barrel proof

Cheers! And yeah, black barrel is a definite step up from the regular Jameson.

That's a good idea for a video!

I agree! That 9 year old Gold Spot would have been a lovely permanent addition.
And hopefully you can try the black barrel versions one day!

Fingers crossed for you!
Hi Matt, black barrel proof vs redbreast any? Video please. Does it punch above its weight? Thanks
I'd give it to the Redbreast, but Black Barrel Proof is close to the Redbreast 12
well its locally available and this intrigued me to pick up a bottle.
Oooh! I hope you like it!
great comparision. now i want to try them. cheers
Go for it!
I really like the standard black barrel. I can't wait to find the 50% release or get a sample of the barrel proof. 🥃
I think you'd really like the Proof version

Nicely done, lad! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Jealous, but I have hopes the Black Barrel Proof will sometime make it here. Cheers!
Fingers crossed!
It's made its way to the Seychelles 🎉
Just in time for the holidays!
Matt. For me the Proof is the best expression of Black Barrel whiskey. 🥃
Absolutely agreed!
Good comparison
Cheers!
