    I theorize George had to favor Margaret because he knew the pain of being the spare to an older brother so close in age.

      Or perhaps he saw in Elizabeth what she sees in Charles, his replacement. At least George was kind enough to not be so cold to Elizabeth as she was with Charles.

      Of course he did. He appears to have overcompensated. But he did it out of Love and Empathy.
      There was just no one there with the time or patience to help them realize that, so that Both could truly be free to appreciate and enjoy each other as Sisters.

      @@joiisler8986 She could have been with Townsend. He revealed in his autobiography that he and Peincess Margaret received the offer of a morganastic marriage from the Queen and Anthony Eden. Margaret could keep her titles and wealth but she and her children would have Io be removed from the line of succession. Apparently Margaret didn't love him enough to do that.

    I don't believe this; Margaret loved being a princess without any responsibilities and was not envious of Elizabeth. She loved her sister and never upstaged her. I think Margaret simply wished her romantic life had worked out somehow and the rest would've fallen into place.

      Same. I thought it was all played for dramatization. Harry himself said that no one wants the big job of being a royal.

    • @bananamanchester4156
      @bananamanchester4156 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I agree. I think they lean in way to much to the "poor Margaret" sentiment in this episode. Firstly, she doesn't apologise or acknowledge the fact that she was deliberately rude to people and hurt their feelings- she just brushes past it as her "making a mistake" and uses it as proof that everyone despises her. Other people's feelings matter as well, at least show some guilt over it? Second, they attribute her mental health difficulties to her resentment over not being the Queen. However, we know there's far more to it than that- her regret over Peter Townsend and her fear that she made the wrong choice, her grief over her father, the strain of royal duties ect ect. She didn't resent Elizabeth in real life, and in the show they could definitely have come up with something more creative than "two sisters envy each other".

    This dynamic is always very interesting, two siblings very close in age, one has the spotlight, the other, in the sidelines: Look what's happening to William and Harry. The next to watch, maybe not as well known, are the daughters of the King and Queen of Spain.

    • @Roxas-ph3te
      @Roxas-ph3te ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Well, the daughters of the King and Queen of Spain seem to get on much better than Harry and William at this point in time. Will have to see if that changes with age, but given that their parents have a harmonious marriage, are supportive and well, are both alive I see it playing out a lot better than Harry and William did, although there is still plenty of time for reconciliation for those two.

    • @christosliakis519
      @christosliakis519 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      William and Harry are an extreme scenario. Harry is cheapening his brother's inheritance by having turned his back to everything he stood for and becoming a deepthroat of very dubious word, all for the sake of an equally dubious and unsavoury woman. He has laid bare his deep resentment and jealousy of his brother in very underhanded ways. Margaret never betrayed Elizabeth.

      Four years is a larger gap. (Even WILLIAM and HARRY were not even educated together.)
      It seems the monarchy itself dictates an unnatural rivalry; breeding undue resentment.
      I agree that WILLIAM and HARRY could (and should), reconcile. But will Both take the time, and make the effort?
      With both CHARLES and KATE in hospital right now, they could take this opportunity to remember (and show) the love and unity that their Mum so hoped they would share.

    They loved each other but hated the situation they were placed in. However, Margaret was so eaten up with bitterness and resentment that she became a monster, much like Harry is now. The poor Queen was never allowed to express emotion in public and had to keep it all under wraps. Such an unnatural way to live, and so became remote and appeared unfeeling. All this nonsense about being the “spare”? We are all responsible for our own lives and choices - unless disabled in some way. We are our own best friends and our own worst enemies. Deal with it!

    I imagine they spent their time laughing at things as Margaret told Elizabeth horrid stories about people and Elizabeth did the same…… because they could be themselves with each other and were completely devoted to one another. They probably talked quite a lot about the kids and grandkids, their woes with their respective husbands, their respective passions (horses & ballet), clothes, their hair, ailments, food, upcoming events, etc…. same thing all sisters talk about!! But I don’t believe for one second either of them had a conversation remotely like this one.

    the queen destroyed her sister. and her sister still loved her.
    to be honest, though, if i had been in margaret's situation, i would have left the royal family. the moment my sister denied me the wedding with my true love, i would have negotiated a financial agreement with the queen/my sister and in exchange i would have left the royal and public scene with maximum discretion and silence. i would have threatened her with tearing the entire monarchy down with bad press if she should not agree. quite simple.
    i also could not love a sister who denies me a wedding. so leaving would have been the lesser sacrifice. for sure.
    but margaret didn't. she had the choice between her royal status and her one true love. and she chose her status.

    I literally have no sympathy for margaret. I thought I had none before but now I have even less. Elizabeth was Is no more responsible for what happened in Her own Is life than what happened in margaret's.
    The succession of the throne and the crown was determined by constitutional law. The fact is.
    She let envy and jealousy.Go to her heart and her head. She never forgave her sister for saving Her from what would have been a doomed relationship.And tarnishe to the crown.
    She had freedoms and individuality that Elizabeth could never enjoy and instead of taking advantage of it.She made every attempt to embarrass her sister and every turn.
    She could have had as good of life As she or any other could have ever wanted. But what she craved was the limelight in the attention. Like most people who look at someone's life from Tmthe outside She could not appreciate the sacrifice it takes. There's not a single retaining aspect of her argument. She was jealous and bitter.
    And of course in the end as it is with all people of such a nature she paid the worst price for it.
    Her biography should be subtitled "her own worst enemy."
