    When I first met my wife she was impressed that I loved wood working. I told her to use my tools and learn how yourself. She decided to buy her own tools and that was fine, but when her tools didn't work well she turned to me for advice. I showed her that no matter how expensive or cheap the tool. just buy good quality blades and router bits. I always bought Freud bits and blades. She would rather get a new tool or router bit for a present than anything else even now 50 years later.

      I like to hear that Dave. Kathy loves being in the sawmill with me and admires my handy work but I havent convinced her to do the cutting yet but she is warming up a "bit" to it. Making sure you have quality tools and blades is representative of the quality that will come out in your project for sure. Thanks for sticking with our channel. We enjoy your comments. Happy Wife Happy Life!

    We had 2 closets cedar lined about 35 years ago. The wood was not sealed in any way. It smelled so good, then not so much. I emptied the closets and light sanded the cedar thinking I could bring the smell back. Didn’t work. What did I do wrong?

    • @hillsmillhomestead
      @hillsmillhomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow Phyllis Baker, we love that you lined your closets in cedar and agree the smell is awesome. That was a great idea to try in sanding the cedar. After 35 years, perhaps all of the essential oil within the wood was dryed out and completely disapated. Alas. But good news, Hill's Mill has cedar and you can reline your closets YAY! LOL Come see us!

    The clock is beautiful a d so are the cedar boards. I can only imagine the wonderful smell. I have a cedar chest that was my moms from the 40’s and it still smells so great when opening it.

      Thanks for the kind words, Beverly. It does amaze me how fragrances from our childhood can remain in our minds for so many years. I sure enjoy bringing the fragrance of the cedar alive in the sawmill. Thanks for watching our channel.

    • @hillsmillhomestead
      @hillsmillhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a very good use for cedar, and the beauty of the wood could really show off. We sell alot of cedar for hunting closets and pantries. Not only is it beautiful, the scent acts as an insect repellent and camouflages human scent on hunting clothes. Thanks for tuning in to our channel. We appreciate you.

    I would like to see “How to build” videos on different types of wood projects. I’m 16 and I’ve only made a paddle so far. Right now I’m working on a hammer handle. I would like to build my woodworking game up!

      Wow, Luke, that makes me happy to hear someone your age interested in woodworking. My advice to start is keep it simple, keep it safe, then when you master that go up to the next level.Stay tuned for future woodworking "how to" videos. Thanks for watching.

    My son and husband are both carpenters. I need to find a piece of walnut my son made me one when he was in high school. He also made beautiful ink pens and sold them for extra money. He has made a oak step stool for the kitchen. He does some refinishing work in his spare time. He does tile work for his job.

    Beautiful clock and boards!! I grew up tinkering in my grandpa’s garage building small things from the scraps from his larger projects. I hope to get back to making smaller projects again soon. I want one of those bee houses, but no way am I paying that much for one!

      Yes, H Lammers, there is nothing like the smell of cedar. It definately brings back memories for me when I smell a fresh cut log. Reminds me of Christmas.
