I just drained my transmission and it measured 6 liters. I filled it up using the fill check plug on the side of the transmission and I only used 4 quarts. I think the dealership overfilled my transmission when I took it with them.
Thank you so much for this video. The no Tran stick was making me so nervous. Thought I was going to have to take it to a dealership and face that high bill
Thank you so much for the excellent and clear instruction but I have a question does this model has a transmission filter? I have the same model 2014 LT 2.5 and I'm planning to change the transmission fluid but I'm just curious if it has a filter or not. Thank you!
Just changed my fluid. Same exact car as yours. Only got just under 3.5 quarts. 3 quarts 300 ml to be exact. Makes me worried someone previously under filled it. I don’t wanna add more and over fill it if it’s got the amount it should have. I see most people get 4 quarts or more from this make and model drain and fill.
I have the same engine it's at 96,000 miles Nebraska weather, last time I brought it in he told me it should be good until it starts leaking. Idk if I should trust that and just get a changed next oil change
The thing is that once the transmission oil is old old if you change the gears can slip. So many end up not replacing it so better to do it before it's too late. That's what I learned from researching. I am not a mechanic
I’m 6’1” 220 lbs. and I personally do it without lifting the car up. I also do the oil changes without lifting it up. I can fit my head and arm underneath when I lay on my back.
I have a 2017 Impala with the 3.6 V6 and 6 speed auto and it has a dipstick for the transmission. Seems odd that the transmission has no dipstick with the 4 cylinder when it is the same transmission.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Yeah, GM makes no sense sometimes. The tranny in my 2014 LTZ has no dipstick, just like my old 2012 Malibu, but my 2012 Acadia did have one. Stupid.
This vehicle doesn’t have a pan that can be removed from below to change the filter. To change the filter, the transmission must be removed from the vehicle and split. The only maintenance available (other than a flush) is the partial drain and refill shown in this video. It is partial because the transmission fluid in the torque converter does not drain.

A question, I have the same model but 2016 version that is at 122k miles. Would my trans start slipping if I changed it now ? Or is it still okay to change it.
I'm honestly thinking about doing this myself but I've read that there is a specific way to do it, needing to get the transmission fluid to a certain temperature to check its proper level becuase the liquid rises when at a certain temperature and is a different level when cold. I dont know how true this is. I was wondering how your car has been holding up since doing this fluid change ?
Good point. Materials and fluids expand as the temperature increases. You could change the fluid when the car is “cold” so the fluid in the car and the fluid in the jug are the same temperature to eliminate this variable. I have not had any issues with this vehicle. It is running fine.
I've always been terrified of changing transmission fluid, so many people tell me not to change the transmission fluid because apparently new fluid can mess up the gears, I have a 2017 Chevy Impala with 145,000 MI, is it safe to change the transmission fluid with all new fluids at this point?
The fluid does not last forever. It is burned up and losing its properties. The owners manual says to change it. It should be changed. A drain and fill should be safe. You are just replacing bad fluid with good fluid. What do you want to avoid as a power flush. That can break loose debris and cause issues. I think that is probably what you are concerned with. That is my view on it. But by all means, do additional research until you feel comfortable.
Ive done plenty of research on this particular topic, the conclusion ive come to from experienced mechanics is to change the transmission fluid on time and regularly, however if oyuve never chnaged the transmission fluid and ur way past the change date, then dont change the fluid. Changing will only cause more damage
really strange you don't show how to check level ?? what if you had only gotten 3 qts out because someone changed the radiator last year and never checked ?? just don't get it - yea i want to know how - but how to do properly ????

I tried looking on Google for transmission fluid capacity for a 2019 Chevy impala LT 3.6L flex fuel. I want to do a drain and flush only with no flush. Any idea?
You will be doing a drain and fill. If the transmission has a dipstick, fill it to the cold full mark on level ground. If there is not a dipstick (like the vehicle in this video), add the same amount of fluid that was removed.
My dip stick says “hot check”. And when I check it while car is running, I can’t really tell where the line of fluid is at. When I drained it. About 6 quarts was drained out. I made the mistake by using a 5 quart container and it started to overflow. So I lost some oil. Couldn’t measure it out. I just put back in 6 quarts according to some transmissions shops and dealers around here in Scottsdale area. Thank you though👍
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Well of course. But it is still crazy trying to get a correct answer to how many quarts on a simple change to put in. Amsoil says 6.4 without a flush, my Malibu used to be 5.3. I changed mine yesterday and it didn't even have 5 quarts in my 2014 Impala. I put 5.4 back in. The sight plug is impossible to reach. Hard to imagine no one seems to know the actual correct amount.
Your explanation was clear and straight to the point. Thank you
Does the 2017 Impala with the 2.5 L engine have a transmission filter to change as well?
The v6 has a dipstick. It’s simple. Drain, measure the amount that came out , refill with that amount. I did the process again. 😊
5 quarts for your model?
where do i refill from? do i take out the dipstick and add it from there ?

This is not a transmission oil flush you need to flush the torque converter to . All you did is change the 4 quarts in the case .
I completely agree. This is not a flush. It is a drain and fill.
Also, a flush is not recommended for higher mileage vehicles.
What about the filter
The transmission has to be removed to change the filter. The only practical self maintenance is to drain and refill to change the fluid.
I can't believe you didn't raise the car up! Good vid tho.
Lol. I’m not scared of laying on the ground, and my arm is long enough to reach. It saves me a lot of unnecessary time and effort.
Most of these call for 5.3 quarts. If the last person didn't do it right, you are just doing the same.
That’s true. I’ll point out that it is not a complete drain. There will still be old fluid in the torque converter.
